+Jordan Johnson (Mighty Burger) that much extra magnesium will increase latency and make the potato rot faster over time! What you really want is to decrease the phosphorus to about 49 mg so that everything stays crisp.
@@ilyes4752 rip man pentiums suck but good luck on getting a good pc soon im also kinda thinking on an i9 cuz the Diwali ( its an Indian festival) sale in November might lower the prices by a lot
Is this a good build? Cpu: 3.5" Granny Smith Apple Core Ram: 4 Popsicle sticks Hard Drive: 60 min cassette tape GPU: Mattel View-Master Mobo: Cereal Box with wires Psu: A Lemon with electrical probes Case: Lincoln Logs Monitor: A Cardboard Box with a hole cut in it
+SMAAAASHTV and for the motherboard, dont just get a random cereal box. get a Keloggs Special K box, preferrably raspberry flavored, it makes a huge difference. and NEVER get a cheerio box. it sucks
Loved the car analogy! Especially the GHz vs RPM comparison! So cool, it's weird I never thought of it that way. Also, the way Linus said, "I personally guarantee you'll get the help you need" was wayyy funny!
***** I'm listing older generation parts because there's barely a difference between the i7-3770K and i7-4770K. Haswell also dissipates more heat due to the difference in architectural design. As for the i7-2600K, it particularly overclocks much better than the newer i7s, and that is the specific area in which I listed it. The newer i7s struggle to reach the same levels of overclocking. Of course, the i7-3770K and i7-4770K will overclock as this is what they're marketed for, but just not as well as the i7-2600K. All of the models I listed for overclocking are capable of going 1.70 GHz or more beyond their respective stock frequencies. I'm yet to see a newer i7 achieve this, which is why I didn't list them in that particular area. The FX-83x0 processors can effectively double their frequency in overclocking, which is why they're listed last (I've listed them from worst choice to best choice).
hey big guy :D could I ask you witch CPU is better? I have 3 to chooise... 1.st: Intel Pentium E2160... 1.80Hz, 2 core 2.st: Intel Pentium E2180.... 2.00Hz, 2 core, 64bit 3.st Intel Pentium E6750..... 2.66Hz, 2Core ark.intel.com/compare/31733,29739,30784
+Jake Pauler & Logang exterminator - While the video above is playing, try hitting the numbers on your keyboard. It will skip the video to one of ten spots throughout the video (0 is the beginning of the video and 9 is close to the end). It's just an easy way to fast-forward and rewind through the videos you watch on youtube. Though, sometimes it's rather fun to hear the strange sound effects you can get by starting a video in one of those random spots because it will cut off someone's speech, making it sound like a funny sound rather than a legible word. Get it? Try it out. Have fun.
I was just scrolling through my watch history and yesterday, while my volume was muted, 18 Techquickies played automatically after i started watching one. This was the last in the chain. You're welcome.
Intel consistently performs better than AMD; it's not just better in efficiency (power usage), it performs better, although, for a higher price. AMD offers you 8 cores with poor IPC performance (single threaded performance) at a lower price, and that's fine. Intel offers you fewer cores that have very powerful IPC performance, efficiency and thermals for more money, of course.
BoatLoadOfSeamen Intel doesn't have to be more expensive since the a $50 motherboard will do just fine for an i5 and you can still overclock it, but the amd series need so much voltage you really need a 990 chipset.
Hey Linus, what are you reaching down and touching on your hip? turning your phone off? adjusting a mic? hehe you do it a LOT. friggin love the shit out of ALL your stuff. Keep up the awesome work
Thank you for not being biased in this video, as most "guides" or better put advertisements, are in the internet. This video actually helped me with my decision .
If I had to say anything I'd say this AMD has a better bang for the buck and compatibility for CPUs stays consistent for a very long time. (Ex Phenon 952 could be swapped for a 8350 with no mobo change) Intel has better performance by a landslide and in my opinion has a lot more features than their AMD counter parts (Ex. Hyperthreading, Intel Smartstep, etc.) and usually runs at a lower wattage
By a landslide how 50 percent more then amd? What are u going by.ill say this from my years of experience on building both.if u know how to configure windows right u can make anything run great and on my 6300 everything I run I have less than a second wait time and rendering audio and video editing is very fast.so as I said in another post here why would I pay from 150 to 450 extra for Intel when u didn't even have to switch out my motherboard just the cpu and get fast results for 100 buks for my amd 6300.i can even run games at high to ultra from a 400 amd build on my site.but we all do what we think is right I rather save money and be like look how I can make my computer run as fast as an expensive computer and save my customers a big chunk of money.
djsmileyoflasvegas It's not just that but AMD is better for some applications. It's great at OpenGL and CL while Intel does poorly there. Intel does really good at video encoding and rendering compared to AMD. Intel has more power per core than AMD does. But AMDs extra cores can really help out in applications that can utilize them
Michaelangelo Parkinson that true I just built a computer for a graphics company with the amd 8320 with 32gb ddr3 1866mhz ram and they are extremely happy because there is no wait.they had a mac and an i5 2330.and in win 8 all rated 7.9 except ssd which rated 8.1.they said how could this be so quick for amd I said a great mobo and know what to have running and tweaking the bios helps alot
Michaelangelo Parkinson it's always going to be what program is optimized for what cpu.i know u heard about cine bench being coded for Intel that's why it was getting better results..there's so much we don't know but what is said in the media I just go off what works for me and I hate computers if I'm waiting for a minute for anything to load.
You have no idea how deep the NSA is... There are chips on your motherboard, in your CPU(AMD or Intel), in your GPU(Nvidia or AMD), there are chips inside the casing of your tower, there are chips in your hard drive. There are chips EVERYWHERE to make sure they know when you're on, and what you do, with what you have on your computer.
***** Why would they need to have a chip in your keyboard when they could have a virus on your pc that sent everything you do to them? :P not that I believe they do ether, just saying it would be easier to extract information.
Prometheus There are WAY simpler options than chipping everything. Like, pulling data from the ISP's. Like they actually ARE doing. Every chip on your mobo has numbers on them to tell you exactly what they are. If you feel so inclined, look them all up. Making chips is not a very effective way to track data when all you need to do is tap into the data stream it's self. It's faster, cheaper, easier, and more effective.
Im sort of AMD fan boy..because my GPU is als amd.. And even more because i had a selection of better motherboards for amd compared to intel. And i still do. Also... AMD never failed me while intel has failed me a couple of times.
spartansheep I had my GT8800 and an Intel Core 2 duo E8400 @3.00 GHz both for 6 years - Ancient stuff i know. They never failed me until recently my GT8800 died - But my CPU still works fine
I have a i5 3570k and Fx8320 and I find that they perform pretty similarly on BF4, the fx8320 might be slightly better but it gets a lot hotter and louder (probs need a better heatsink than the stock one in a tiny case with barely any airflow)
An 8-core 8320 will beat an i5 in video editing, because AMD almost always beats Intel in multi-threaded applications, and Intel almost always beats AMD in single-threaded applications.
DaTechnoDood LevelX That's not exactly true is it, These results show multi threaded cinebench and multi threaded 3d particle movement and going through everything there's almost nothing the fastest FX can beat a 4770 at. It's quicker for 7-zip and that's about it.www.anandtech.com/bench/product/1289?vs=836
nasha thedog Thats actaully true, Cinebench detects your CPU and runs on Intel a fine optimized short code line, but when detecting an AMD its running an ultra complex one. So Intel always will win in Cinebench, but there are patches so Cinebench won't give a damn about your CPU and run always the short code.
I chose my CPU based on the features of the motherboard. I just couldn't find an AMD mobo that had everything I wanted in the form factor that I required so I was forced to choose Intel. I have been using an AM3+ system for a couple of years but I can't overclock it safely (a 900Mhz O/C nearly melted the solder on the VRM's ! There was a very noticeable improvement in responsiveness that I really want so I decided to get a new system). I looked at the FM2+ boards but they just didn't have everything that I want and I would have to make too many compromises. When I finally checked out the Intel 1150 boards I found exactly what I wanted and more, the choice is superb ! AMD mobo's are pretty basic compared to Intel boards, there is a big difference in price but I can get all the features that I want plus more without compromising. Choosing a CPU was easy after that ! For great value you can't beat AMD, you can build a very quick system which does most things just fine but to get the best features that allow you to push it to the limits with incredible bandwidth, you need to pay for them.
Shredderman Wow, that's amazingly cold :O I have FX8350 and the Hyper 212 EVO and the best idle temperature I've ever had with it is like 16, but it's usually around 18-20 and that's at stock speed. And I do have a pretty decent airflow in my case...
... my fx6300 maxes games at 1080p. Why does everyone say "Intel is necessary for gaming" like I max bf4, ghost, bioshock, skyrim w/ mods and other games as well. Why would I want to spend $50-100 more on a cpu when I can use that money on a better cooler or gpu. My friend went intel i7 3770k but yet he gets about the same fps as me. He spent $100 more and does no rendering so why is intel better for gaming? Its your guys obsession with speed. I recommend a higher gpu and an fx 8320 or 6300. I borrowed my friends 780 and noticed a lot higher fps than my 760 which proves cpus arent used as much in modern games (besides skyrim whick only increased by 15 fps rather than 30. But thats mostly to do with how many mods I installed)
the sad truth is that with modern games cpu's aren't really a bottleneck, the majority of the load falls onto the gpu, and if you have a rocking gpu you could have anything in your cpu socket (as long as it supports your ram) and it would run exactly the same. the difference comes in other programs, like photoshop. when working on huge canvases my intel quad core i5 laptop performs better than my desktop with it's ridiculous 8 core amd fx8320 with 16gb of 1833 ram and overclocked nvidia gtx770. which makes me sad.
MrGochira Pretty much this, another reason to go with Intel though is if you really want your computer to last a long time. My college has a whole shit ton of first gen Intel i7s that run at a reduced clock rate and can still plow through whatever people put into it and some people put some stupid fucking shit. Like virtual machines inside of virtual machines stupid. Intel also has generally slightly better power management since the CPUs have less cores and got a lower ghz. But! An (in my opinion) equally good reason to go with AMD is the fact that they typically use the same sockets over and over again... AM2 AM3 AM2+ etc etc... All compatible with each other. Which can in the end further lower your cost. So I mean really, you can't go wrong with either company so long as you do your homework and so long as you go with what you think you want to do.
BeRad117 MrGochira Yeah at my job we use virtual machines as a test machine when replicating problems that users are calling in to the tech department about (AOL TacOps we basically replicate problems take screenshots and get people to fix the problems) But as for gaming, I don't see a reason to get intel. The only reason my next rig will be intel is because I'm going to do graphic design and maybe mess with a virtual machine as well as a lot of heavy rending so I will need the single thread performance as well as hyperthreading. But my main gaming rig is AMD because it does what it needs to for a reasonable price (Intel is overpriced for gaming considering you need to upgrade motherboards like you said due to socket incompatibilities and because it comes with graphics built in you're paying a little extra for that as well)
philipx550 no, my asus laptop has a true 3.0 ghz quad core i5, and yes side by side comparison on extremely large pixel canvases exceeding 6400 by 8000 pixels the i5 is much more responsive, 3d modeling and the actual export process is another story all together, but this might be just my particular chips and there specific quirks. so perhaps you shouldnt make assumptions about my equipment before posting some invalid informations.
lol i love techquickie even tho i know all this stuff its just funny how he puts it out. but being a computer builder i have learned some stuff from the channel
I purchased an AMD 8350 and a pretty kick ass motherboard for 260 bucks from NCIX. Some of my friends who intel fanboys just started shitting over it, but after a few benchmarks my cpu was on par and in some cases outpreformed the i7's they had put their gaming pc's. Man, i used to think Intel destroyed amd but the numbers speak for themselves, if you pick a side....you are being a fucking moron. Look at how the cpu will perform on the games you want to play, regardless of the brand....if you are willing to pay an extra 100 bucks for a performance increase, that is a good decision but having brand loyalty will be a waste of money.
+Dingo D. Manhunter Dude I thought the same thing, but nothing will ever come close to intel...I just threw my 8350 out the window and upgraded to an i5 4690k, the performance is very noticeable...If you're on a budget stick with AMD, if you've graduated from average joe to geek, then build a bad ass INTEL PC with a nice ASUS motherboard, 240GB SSD, 8GB RAM, 750/800WATT PSU, R9 280X, etc.
+Dingo D. Manhunter i also wanna buy the same cpu, since i m on a budget. Can you tell me how many Watt you need overall and what cooling stuff you have for the pc, cause thats the biggest issue i have with the amd cpu.
Kaktus I mostly use my other pc that has the 6350 cpu because uni hasn't given me the chance to transfer files. I'm using a stock cooler with a 600 watt thermaltake power-supply which is running pretty well considering it was 60 bucks. I would recommend the amd fx 6350 cpu which is much cheaper than the 8350 and it runs better than the i5 quad core macs that are normally used where i work(real world data not benchmarks). I haven't had a single problem using the 6350. The gpu i use is an r9 280x by sapphire which is around 220 bucks.. and i think it's well worth the price. And the motherboard, i went with the asus m5a97 r2.0 which is around 100 bucks. I have been using that setup for alot of stuff including operating the observatory telescope and collecting astronomical data for research and attempting to play the witcher 3 which it runs well but it isn't a game i like. If you are in canada man, go to ncix and look at their deal center for am3+ motherboards and amd cpu's. Let me list out the budget stuff again Cpu: fx 6350 or 8350 Motherboard: Am3+ mid range baord Gpu: r9 270, r9 280, r9 285, Case: Something with good airflow, does't have to be expensive Powersupply: 600 + watts from a good manufacturer with good warranty Storage: 1 tb Hdd and a 128 gb ssd Ram: 8gb ddr3 1600+ mhz I think this setup is the best you can get on a budget. Shop around for deals and search youtube for cheaper builds. If you're in canada like i am NCIX and Canda Computers weekly deals and bundles section is where you look.If you're in america, tiger direct and newegg are great options for deals and bundles. You will probably be able to liquid cool your pc, with some of these motherboard combo deals but get that after you have built your pc cause you're on a budget. I hope i helped you out man, don't become loyal to a brand because that's like telling a prostitute you love her. There's alot of prostitutes out there, get the one that suits your needs.
Satans Son I had to order 20 of the newest year, 21.5 inch macs that cost around dollars each....they have i5 processors and stupidly small number of connection ports and an os not built for any real work. The fucking professor who told me to buy those wants to run linux on them. I told her to stop being a fucking moron and get 10 builds with xeon 16 core cpu's.....i gotta say man as good as amd is for budget, intel fucking annihilates higher end server cpu's. Added nvidia tesla, c2075 graphics and i got myself the most expensive procrastination machine i have ever built. 10 beast server pc's cost roughly same as all those stupid ass macs. I graduated average joe a long time ago man, i just like using the more budget processors for personal use because they haven't released any games yet that i would need to go buy an i7 rig. Probably gonna get a new graphics card when Underworld Ascendant comes out otherwise ill just play them during work.
mhmm 8350 with a hyper 212 evo. Save money, kick some ass. On the intel side a nice high end i5 should do. Dont be a fanboy, buy what you can afford, and what you need. Doing work? Intel. Playing modern multi core using games? AMD. Simple simple.
I just last month upgraded from: AMD Phenom II x4 @3.2Ghz HD Radeon 6870 M4A79T-Deluxe 2x4GB DDR3 1333Mhz To: AMD FX 8350 @ 4.0Ghz [£134] MSI R9 270x 4GB [£170] ASUS Sabertooth 990FX R2.0 [£117] Hyper X 2x4GB DDR3 1866Mhz [£59] Samsung 840 EVO 120GB SSD [£60] I seriously hope it was worth the money. Linus, tell me if I went the right way! I basically budgeted myself for £500
Linus is only using ios to see how switching back to it feels after using android for so long, and also for a benchmark to use for the iphone 6 which is supposed to be a big departure from the standard iphone.
Elgabro He's not saying it's a bad phone. He is pointing out the irony of linus recommending "bang for buck" yet has an iphone which is clearly the most over priced phone.
error2k2 well its hard to classify whether its "overpriced or not". its pretty hard to classify qualitative measurements as being worth it since its so highly subjective. and in NA, most phones are on contract, leveling out all the prices.
But you can measure cpu, ram, battery and screen. Yes, sure iOS has a value too which is subjective. But as far as raw equipment goes then it is over priced.
tbh i still prefer intel over amd for high-end CPUs, bc amds tends to get wayyyyy hot then i need to spend a 100$ for watercooling or a bulky heatsink.
Really I never had that problem I have a 6300 with a 20 dollar cooler for a year and it stays at 18c to 30c and when I OC to 4.4 ghz it gets to 52c.its not as bad as u think I've been building with amd for over a decade an Intel for 5 years
Currently I run a 2012 MacBook Pro for portability reasons. It's got 16GB RAM // 120GB SSD // Windows 8.1 Update 1, and no paging file. Never have I experienced any issue with software executing or stability. The same can be said about my other high-end systems I've built, running earlier versions of Windows. The instability others have experienced may have other underlying causes. One such explanation may be that they installed the program while they had a page file, and later turned it off. Some programmers may not have taken into account this scenario and thus resulting in error. Re-installing the program(s) may address this. Other than that, great tips for CPU shopping.
AMD have good CPU'S! Which in my opinion are more for just pure gamers INTEL have good CPU'S! For gamers and editors and renderers so basically more all round CPU Both will do what you wan't them to do...If your just gaming get an AMD it will be more than enough. Or if your rendering video's and stuff as well as gaming get INTEL as they are superior at that. I have an AMD i have no complaints about it it does everything i wan't it to do...I don't care if people use INTEL i tell you what these fanboy wars are just fucking sad!
All im going to say is that if your doing lots of video editing amd with a ssd works just as good or even better than even intel everytime and for much cheaper
Hamr102 Nope, Cinebench and 3DMark11 prove otherwise that intel outclasses AMD in everyway. You must only cut and encode video otherwise you would realise that intel is the only way to go when to comes to rendering anything complicated in videos and images.
Nope sorry, real word test show that Intel beats still beats amd. These are not benchmarks applications but actual applications a video editor needs or any content creator. www.tomshardware.com/charts/cpu-charts-2013/-34-Adobe-Premiere-Pro-CS6,3171.html www.tomshardware.com/charts/cpu-charts-2013/-33-Adobe-Photoshop-CS-6,3169.html www.tomshardware.com/charts/cpu-charts-2013/-35-Adobe-After-Effects-CS6,3170.html www.tomshardware.com/charts/cpu-charts-2013/-32-TotalCode-Studio-v2.5,3167.html 10 minutes in any video editing forum would tell you people have better performance on Intel. Stop fanboying. If amd ever leap forged Intel in performance and there were the numbers to prove it then there would be no point arguing.
Thanks for that, Linus. I've noticed a lot of people online accuse you of shilling for Intel, but I appreciate how you try to be unbiased. If anyone thinks that either Intel or AMD is just bad or worse than the other or has no reason to be around, they are just wrong.
Crossfire and SLI is a big reason to pick a processor. not because of the processor per se but because of the motherboards that the processors fit in that are specific for either crossfire or SLI.
From experience, intels CPUs are just generally better, and well worth the markup. Even equivalentspec AMD cpus at cheaper prices just don't have the same real world performance.
Thanks for this. Could you consider doing a Part 2 that would discuss CPUs certain user-types should consider - i.e., the MS office user/web browser, the gamer, the video editor, etc. Thank you.
Serious Gaming / work - Intel... HTPC / general system / casual gaming - AMD I've used a good range of current CPU (Fx6300/FX8320/i74770k) and from my experience for a serious gaming/work system you want a nice intel CPU... For everything else a AMD system is a fine option. My ol'ladys rig is a FX6300/HD7850 and it excels at what she does, plays mmo's and surfs the net (does great in DDO/GW2). I used the same basic system (FX8320/HD7850) and it wasn't enough for me. I moved to a 780, and then replaced the 8320 with a 4770k. All of my games run great now... I couldn't of said that before when using the FX8320. I ran my 780 with a FX8320 for a few months, and wasn't happy with the results. I won't be using a AMD CPU for a gaming rig again, unless some serious changes happen. I would however use one for a general usage/HTPC. I'd also build a system for my mom, or someone who isn't going to be gaming on it using a AMD cpu.
Hmm, about suggesting future episodes, what motherboard should we use? Like, does going for a newer chipset have any real or big benefits aside from the updated SATA/USB 3.0 sockets? What are chipsets for basically? Knowing that price differs from each chipset, which should I pick? Thanks for all these videos, really helps people. More power, mate!
Linus, I'm not a fanboy. I just do not like AMD because I used to have so many problems with it. If a third big CPU brand would come, then I might get one of those CPU's instead of an Intel CPU. I'm not an intel fan, nor an AMD hater. I just have bad experiences with AMD and now I do not trust it anymore. That's all. That's why I look for Intel CPU's atm.
SLS it's just his preference, he's not saying AMD should disappear completely, just that he won't use them. That is probably unless something major comes out of AMD that is worth making the switch. Even though I might buy an Intel processor in the future I will still use AMD for my graphics solution. I've had good enough experiences with AMD that I don't see a reason to make that switch.
Intel CPU-s are bloody expensive and they dont give not even close to performance equivalent for that money !! In my country idiotic i5 4690K &4670K costs almost 4x more than athlon II 860K or like 3x 6300 or 2x fx 8320 !!! Do this Intel shits give performance on that level !! no they dont , especially not if you paired with low-middle range GPU-s then almost dont have any differents or 5-10% in fps !! or in video editing or converting difference beetween i5 and let we say athlon 860K are 25- 40% or even lower but price differents are 300% so whoever buys i5 or especially i7 dont go lower in GPU-s from R9 280x or GTX 960 or 770 because you cannot see some differents in fps for money what you invest in that Intel junk
***** most of prices are normal and have no discount!! PS4 and Xbox one are generally shit now !!overpriced shit who are significally weaker and cannot be in league with some budget PC in their price range
I am glad that my last decision was simple - Phenom X2(4) 955BE -> FX-8350. But since it's the highest possible CPU i can fit into my older MOBO, next "generation" upgrade will happen in 2 years, so 2 years i can rest without need to research or investigate :)
I just swapped out a 4 year old Phenom II for a fx-8350 and its only cost me £70, i love having the freedom to chop and change systems like that and find overclocking and tinkering with the system to allot more fun on the AMD platform. As long as the CPU has ample power to drive my games and programs these characteristics mean allot more to me than having slightly improved performance and power consumption.
Chad Bremer would there bee any serious point in compering two systems from completely different price points yes Intel is Faster but it has not Chance at beating an AMD in the Bang for your buck department
Chad Bremer Go for it. Price vs performance. We can just test CPU. Fx6300 (overclocked at 5ghz - passmark value 8550) . Price - 120$. 4930K - highest passmark value 15597 . Price - 550$ . FX => 8550/120$ = avg 71p/$ . I7 => 15597/550 = 28p/$ . You were sayin?
Hey Linus ! Why don't you make a tech quicky video about the I/O ports on pc's ? Like what is optical output.. The difference betwene vga and dvi.. Stuff like that?? That would be nice
One of the guidelines i go by is Gamer PC only? or need cheap pc? Go AMD If using more then gaming and word documents like Adobe programs, Go Intel (i game and i use Adobe Programs so i got myself a Intel I7 core 4770K)
Something he should have mentioned was software support, nVidia is a must for doing video work with Adobe products because they only support cuda with the exception of some very expensive commercial AMD cards
Had built a system for a friend using A10-5700. His room quickly turns hot. He even dislike the heat too. Not my choice for picking AMD even though I persuaded him to go for Intel. 70-90 degree Celsius (idle - load). So I recommend that he should get a simple premade watercooling to replace the stock cooler just to bring the temps down if he went there just to buy graphics card in later months. My build with i5 and MSI Cyclone 2 GTX 550 ti, is still getting good temperature, even at stock cooler. Still running on reliable fans and it falls between 45 - 60 degrees (idle - load). I'm not a Intel and/or Nvidia fanboy, just that, they products are efficient in terms of heat and power consumption. Though, safe to say that he just do gaming amd light video editing. While I require Intel as I do some 3D rendering (insane to run on a 550 ti) and heavy video editing. Performance wise (gaming), not much difference. Though he experienced driver issues with AMD after he bought an AMD gpu (HD 7770).
I shop Intel or AMD based on the LED monitor. Intel LGA 775 Core 2 duo E8500 for max resolution 1080p is good. My previous monitor is LG Flatron L1952T is 19inch(1280x1024), Samsung S23A950D 3D glasses (1080p), Now using Philips 20inchLED 1080p.
Never be ashamed of looking up ANYTHING when building a PC. It's nothing to be ashamed of AND you can find some incredible deals. For example, if you know someone that has, let's say, an i5 3350p, ask him for the performance and the price. Then you have a point of reference. Comparing CPUs is as easy as searching for, again, coming up with just an example here: "i5 3350p (your point of reference) vs FX4300 (the one you're considering)". You'll instantly find websites comparing the two, both in terms of technical info that you may not understand AND benchmark results. Same thing applies to graphics cards. It's the easiest way to go about choosing a CPU and a GPU for your rig.
Mr0life also budget, you have to consider your own budget when going about this. If you only have a few hundred to work with, you need to find places where you can go cheaper. Sometimes that might mean not getting the cpu you want or not getting that gpu you want. most of the time it's better to skimp on a gpu at first. Anyway, great comment. I just wish it would get noticed more.
Would an AND A8 5600k be a good choice for a low budget gaming rig? (£150) I want to play games like minecraft, Garry's mod, arma 3 etc. I will be running it with 4gb of Team Elite Ram. In 6 months I will also be running a Zotac Geforce GTX 550 ti on the pc aswell. Will the AMD A8 5600k APU be a good choice?
I would recommend an Intel xeon E3-1230 V3. I know that they are usually used in servers and workstations but this one is great for gamers. It costs around the price of the i5 4670 (at least in the UK) and it preforms like a i7 4770, because it is a i7 4770 without the igpu or over clocking capabilities. It is compattible with most haswell boards so it will be easy to upgrade to another xeon or i series CPU. I'm personally getting one and a gtx 760 for the gaming pc I'm building in the summer and I think it is a hidden gem in the CPU market.
Heh.. I went from a Phenom 2 X2 511 (3.4Ghz) to a Phenom x6 1090T (3.22Ghz) and that blew me away. Also a new motherboard, RAM, and HDD. I can boot in under 20 seconds. Beats the old 3 minutes.
+Scott Johnson i have a laptop back from 2013 its was i3 sandy bridge so now my i5 6600k will blow it out from the earths atmosphere all the way to the suns core
the 8350 will perform slightly better on certain tasks because of its 8 cores where a comparable intel processor will perform slightly better on other tasks, most common ones actually, but the 8350 is quite a bit cheaper and will perform similarly. Perhaps better depending on which one you happened to get a better overclock on. So even if you do all your research its still often luck of the draw as to what will actually function better
The FX 8320 is such a beast. For just a tiny bit more than an i3 4130 you get a fully overclockable octa core-CPU compared to a the i3 which has 2 cores/4 threads and no overclockability.
'For just a tiny bit more than an i3 4130'. This is why I prefer to go the AMD route. I got a 6300 WITH an unlocked multiplier for slightly less than a locked dual-core i3.

***** I'm not talking about that. I'm saying don't turn Fast As Possible into an acronym.

I'll make it easy.
Gaming on a budget = A10-7850K
Power/price = FX-6350, i5-4670K, FX-8320, FX-8350
Power = i7-3770K, i7-4770K
Video editing = FX-8350, i7-3770K, i7-4770K
Overclocking = A10-7850K, FX-4320, FX-6300, i7-2600K, FX-8320, FX-8350
***** I could not have responded any better personally if i was shopping for an intel cpu i would go ivy rather than haswell

Intel = Electric Car - sheer torque, efficient, expensive
Lol, nope. Processors don't work that way.
Salpeteroxid It does.
BoatLoadOfSeamen
Intel doesn't have to be more expensive since the a $50 motherboard will do just fine for an i5 and you can still overclock it, but the amd series need so much voltage you really need a 990 chipset.
Salpeteroxid Only z87 and z97 motherboards can overclock haswell i5 CPUs.

This video actually helped me with my decision .
If I had to say anything I'd say this
AMD has a better bang for the buck and compatibility for CPUs stays consistent for a very long time. (Ex Phenon 952 could be swapped for a 8350 with no mobo change)
Intel has better performance by a landslide and in my opinion has a lot more features than their AMD counter parts (Ex. Hyperthreading, Intel Smartstep, etc.) and usually runs at a lower wattage
By a landslide how 50 percent more then amd? What are u going by.ill say this from my years of experience on building both.if u know how to configure windows right u can make anything run great and on my 6300 everything I run I have less than a second wait time and rendering audio and video editing is very fast.so as I said in another post here why would I pay from 150 to 450 extra for Intel when u didn't even have to switch out my motherboard just the cpu and get fast results for 100 buks for my amd 6300.i can even run games at high to ultra from a 400 amd build on my site.but we all do what we think is right I rather save money and be like look how I can make my computer run as fast as an expensive computer and save my customers a big chunk of money.
djsmileyoflasvegas
It's not just that but AMD is better for some applications.
If only people knew that AMD would make a comeback 5 years ago
Intel got dem secret NSA chips.
Turskaify I hope they like buttsecks.
***** Why would they need to have a chip in your keyboard when they could have a virus on your pc that sent everything you do to them? :P
not that I believe they do ether, just saying it would be easier to extract information.
Quick lets all put a tin foil hat on............
I found in my travels, that while intel processors have had better performance, the price-to-performance hasn't been as good as AMD processors.
No intro at all, love it.
Im sort of AMD fan boy..because my GPU is als amd..
And even more because i had a selection of better motherboards for amd compared to intel. And i still do.
Also... AMD never failed me while intel has failed me a couple of times.
Intel -> AMD :DDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD
*****
Is that a joke? Because your CPU and GPU can't possibly be older than the 2 years your AMD GPU lasted.
***** arent those both only like 2 years old though?
spartansheep I had my GT8800 and an Intel Core 2 duo E8400 @3.00 GHz both for 6 years - Ancient stuff i know. They never failed me until recently my GT8800 died - But my CPU still works fine

I have a i5 3570k and Fx8320 and I find that they perform pretty similarly on BF4, the fx8320 might be slightly better but it gets a lot hotter and louder (probs need a better heatsink than the stock one in a tiny case with barely any airflow)
ewwww.....hahaha my stock fan that came with my 8150 got taken out and ran over by the car. Replace it with a nice and quiet H100i :)
I think I should get the hyper 212 evo everyone says to get
I have no money and no side window so I think I'd be fine
yes the hyper 212 is a nice cooler but for a few more bucks and if you can fit it in your case the Cooler Master Hyper N520 would work better.
Annoytanor the fx series is really hot and thats a problem but with a good cooling system its quiet and really good. :)
i think amd fx cpus are enough if you're just going to use your system for games
and intel from i5-higher end cpus are good for all around usage
An 8-core 8320 will beat an i5 in video editing, because AMD almost always beats Intel in multi-threaded applications, and Intel almost always beats AMD in single-threaded applications.
DaTechnoDood LevelX That's not exactly true is it, These results show multi threaded cinebench and multi threaded 3d particle movement and going through everything there's almost nothing the fastest FX can beat a 4770 at. It's quicker for 7-zip and that's about it.www.anandtech.com/bench/product/1289?vs=836
nasha thedog Nice link rot m8.
By the way, I heard Cinebench was payed by Intel to favor Intel over AMD.
DaTechnoDood LevelX Oh, Your one of those conspiracy theorists, The ones with the foil hats! Moron.
nasha thedog Thats actaully true, Cinebench detects your CPU and runs on Intel a fine optimized short code line, but when detecting an AMD its running an ultra complex one. So Intel always will win in Cinebench, but there are patches so Cinebench won't give a damn about your CPU and run always the short code.
techquickie is Linus's ''cardio'' everyday
For great value you can't beat AMD, you can build a very quick system which does most things just fine but to get the best features that allow you to push it to the limits with incredible bandwidth, you need to pay for them.
ive come to only look for yalls videos if I have a question. thank you for being here for us.
AMD FX-8320 or 8350 with Hyper 212 EVO is the way to go for gamers!
friend of mine is running a Hyper 212 Evo with a FX 4300 @4.5GHz, his temperature is like almost 10-8 degrees idle.
Shredderman Wow, that's amazingly cold :O I have FX8350 and the Hyper 212 EVO and the best idle temperature I've ever had with it is like 16, but it's usually around 18-20 and that's at stock speed. And I do have a pretty decent airflow in my case...
Shredderman Sure, colder than the room around. There is not even a reason to do that, what a waste.
TheCoDzillaPlayer How is it a waste? The colder the better. (Within reason obviously)
1N07 At IDLE its kind of a waste. What is he using it for? Has to be some pretty heavy shit if he needs to cool it that much.
Or is it to show off?

... my fx6300 maxes games at 1080p.
Well if gaming is all that's important to you then I guess you wouldn't need to spend more money then.
the sad truth is that with modern games cpu's aren't really a bottleneck, the majority of the load falls onto the gpu, and if you have a rocking gpu you could have anything in your cpu socket (as long as it supports your ram) and it would run exactly the same. the difference comes in other programs, like photoshop. when working on huge canvases my intel quad core i5 laptop performs better than my desktop with it's ridiculous 8 core amd fx8320 with 16gb of 1833 ram and overclocked nvidia gtx770. which makes me sad.
MrGochira
Pretty much this, another reason to go with Intel though is if you really want your computer to last a long time.
BeRad117 MrGochira
Yeah at my job we use virtual machines as a test machine when replicating problems that users are calling in to the tech department about (AOL TacOps we basically replicate problems take screenshots and get people to fix the problems)
But as for gaming, I don't see a reason to get intel.

Here you can see how much Linus enjoys making these vids.
I really love that you had absolutely 0 introduction in this video. Useless intros are the bane of youtube.
+Dingo D. Manhunter Dude I thought the same thing, but nothing will ever come close to intel...I just threw my 8350 out the window and upgraded to an i5 4690k, the performance is very noticeable...If you're on a budget stick with AMD, if you've graduated from average joe to geek, then build a bad ass INTEL PC with a nice ASUS motherboard, 240GB SSD, 8GB RAM, 750/800WATT PSU, R9 280X, etc.
uhhhh
Let me list out the budget stuff again
Cpu: fx 6350 or 8350
Motherboard: Am3+ mid range baord
Gpu: r9 270, r9 280, r9 285,
Case: Something with good airflow, does't have to be expensive
Powersupply: 600 + watts from a good manufacturer with good warranty
Storage: 1 tb Hdd and a 128 gb ssd
Ram: 8gb ddr3 1600+ mhz
I think this setup is the best you can get on a budget.

00:12 the best quality and performance for the price, says the guy with an iphone
Linus is only using ios to see how switching back to it feels after using android for so long, and also for a benchmark to use for the iphone 6 which is supposed to be a big departure from the standard iphone.
Just cuz you dont like iphone dosent mean its a bad phone and everyone should think like you :P
Really I never had that problem I have a 6300 with a 20 dollar cooler for a year and it stays at 18c to 30c and when I OC to 4.4 ghz it gets to 52c.its not as bad as u think I've been building with amd for over a decade an Intel for 5 years
djsmileyoflasvegas 18 degrees? I find that a bit hard to believe.
tolikechicken believe me I had this powerful fan set at an angle to hit the cpu on the way out of case at it get 18c idle of course not full run
tolikechicken i have a fx 6300 with a hyper 212, same overclock with the same exact temps
djsmileyoflasvegas You keep your house at 18 degrees? Cause that is 65 degrees Fahrenheit.
I just like computers that can let me game and go pew pew pew...... wait, whats a CPU?
I didn't get a good recommendation on the website. Linus, YOU. OWE
ME. PERIOD.
Which in my opinion are more for just pure gamers
INTEL have good CPU'S! For gamers and editors and renderers so basically more all round CPU
Both will do what you wan't them to do...If your just gaming get an AMD it will be more than enough.
Exactly it makes the fanboy arguments even more stupid both CPU'S can do both..I don't understand the war ;P
Hamr102 Nope, Cinebench and 3DMark11 prove otherwise that intel outclasses AMD in everyway.
You must only cut and encode video otherwise you would realise that intel is the only way to go when to comes to rendering anything complicated in videos and images.
error2k2 Real world side by side test show otherwise
Nope sorry, real word test show that Intel beats still beats amd. These are not benchmarks applications but actual applications a video editor needs or any content creator.

10 minutes in any video editing forum would tell you people have better performance on Intel.
Stop fanboying. If amd ever leap forged Intel in performance and there were the numbers to prove it then there would be no point arguing.
God damn Linus change your pants.
That 100:1 Like:Dislike ratio :D
to keep the synergy I will dislike this post when it reaches 100 thumbs up.
KillerFugu Unfortunately, I sense a disturbance in the Force :/
Le Monarque we must return the balance!
Shut up! You freaks!
shut up
Thanks for that, Linus.
Proud owner of Intel Core i7 4770k :)
I love you, I also own a i7-4770K ;)
PhaseRebirth me to :)
there's a little fanboy threesome going on here xD
Maxime Filion the tipically fanboy from amd lol
alex Sanchez haha no lol. I do own a amd cpu and gpu, but its just because it was cheaper ;) I just noticed dat sexy threesome in the comments lol
Sigh that war is going on down here again. Does nobody listen to Linus? Buy what suits for YOU
From experience, intels CPUs are just generally better, and well worth the markup.
Even equivalentspec AMD cpus at cheaper prices just don't have the same real world performance.
Here from the future to tell you this comment will age somewhat poorly...
Thanks for this. Could you consider doing a Part 2 that would discuss CPUs certain user-types should consider - i.e., the MS office user/web browser, the gamer, the video editor, etc. Thank you.
Serious Gaming / work - Intel...
HTPC / general system / casual gaming - AMD
I've used a good range of current CPU (Fx6300/FX8320/i74770k) and from my experience for a serious gaming/work system you want a nice intel CPU...
Budget gaming pc = amd
Expensive gaming pc = intel
Rendering = intel
Not for everything, not for budget pc.
its only dual core.
AMD FX-6300 is for lower price, have same clock, but six cores!!!
+Jimmy Strudel I can also make 50$ wc and OC that amd to 5GHz.
True six cores and 5ghz will kill many i7 in games.
+Jimmy Strudel so 5ghz is not enough to play games at 1080p and high settings???
so i should choose g3258 and overclock to 4,5ghz?
best CPU for PornHub?
AMD Semperon.
i9 6900k
the JOKER STOKER 6.0
@olof there is no such thing as the i9 6900k, but there is a i7 6900k ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
Pentium 1
Bought a 4770k for $230. Bang for the buck.
Got one for $216 and it's not from Microcenter! :D
no microcenter near anywhere i live :(
life is so unfair D:!!
Kevin Ye
>:O? where >:O!?!?!
Doesn't AMD. Have a processor with the exact same speed but for less?
jerry smith No.
A new techquickie pending now in 2019 I believe, what say? Coming soon may be?
That's all. That's why I look for Intel CPU's atm.
this is 2018 now. shit changes in 4 years, like Apple
Times change. AMD is better.
Intel it's good but AMD it's cheaper and it definitely worth because it have nice performances, and it's cheap (obviously) xD
I still prefer Intel and Nvidia over AMD even with the stuff going on with Nvidia right now.
It is my opinion.
You don't know the consequences of AMD disappearing !
SLS Never said I wanted AMD to disappear.
Linus tech tips forums are the best thing ever
Do one of Monitor Lifespan. I still got Samsung 245BW from 2008 still rocking.
***** Intel &Nvidia price are not justified with performance!! 10-15% are not enough to justified 100+% more price
***** no it wont !! GTX cards are more expensive now !! GTX 750ti costs like R9 270 or 270x and it is 30-40% weaker
***** 150 and 155 are almost same
***** if price are very close then i compare
***** most of prices are normal and have no discount!! PS4 and Xbox one are generally shit now !!overpriced shit who are significally weaker and cannot be in league with some budget PC in their price range
hit 0 repeatedly
Well played sir xD
*clap* firmly grasp it
I am disturbed about how you found this.
Intel and nvidia.
Your guide are really good
*you have earn a subscriber !*
I am glad that my last decision was simple - Phenom X2(4) 955BE -> FX-8350. But since it's the highest possible CPU i can fit into my older MOBO, next "generation" upgrade will happen in 2 years, so 2 years i can rest without need to research or investigate :)
i5 boys
i7 6700K over clocked. boi.
Xeon E5-2600 12-core 5k $, boi.
i7 squad
Core 2 Duo E8400 boi.
Celeron boiii
But... What about Via..... #ViaFanBoiForLife
Just go Intel....
Do I smell a fanboy or ?
I just swapped out a 4 year old Phenom II for a fx-8350 and its only cost me £70, i love having the freedom to chop and change systems like that and find overclocking and tinkering with the system to allot more fun on the AMD platform. As long as the CPU has ample power to drive my games and programs these characteristics mean allot more to me than having slightly improved performance and power consumption.
Yay linus is back!
*Just* *buy* *AMD,* *you'll* *be* *happy* *you* *did.*
@_______@
AGREE!
Not always amd however...
I agree, but damn your comment is going to start a war. Why u do dis.
Generally speaking yes. But since I need strong single core performance I'd rather go with an overclocked I7 4770k :).
Compz18 Strong single core? Why not a 4670k?
werethless12LP cause hyperthreading.. :)
Linus: "Choose AMD or Intel right? WRONG"
*Fanboy left the chat*
WRONG Its all about brand - Go for AMD
xD
Proud Member of the Red Team lol =)
Eric Tan all the way maaan.... All the way.
Want to compare benchmark scores? My overclocked 4930K and 3-way SLI 780's vs your rig.
Chad Bremer would there bee any serious point in compering two systems from completely different price points
yes Intel is Faster but it has not Chance at beating an AMD in the Bang for your buck department
Chad Bremer Go for it. Price vs performance. We can just test CPU. Fx6300 (overclocked at 5ghz - passmark value 8550) . Price - 120$. 4930K - highest passmark value 15597 . Price - 550$ . FX => 8550/120$ = avg 71p/$ . I7 => 15597/550 = 28p/$ . You were sayin?
Just realized this dude is linus
Hey Linus ! Why don't you make a tech quicky video about the I/O ports on pc's ? Like what is optical output.. The difference betwene vga and dvi.. Stuff like that?? That would be nice
Intel>Amd
Did you even watch the video?
Yoda thats the joke and u didn't word ur question like yoda u impostor
Yoda Fanboys will remain fanboys
Have fun spending twice on the same technology that AMD offers for half of it. I even bet you like nVidia.
tekike666 Let's face it though, If money wasn't an issue and your wanted to most powerful cpu, intel would be the way to go.
Well, I think SpendRush, com would be solution for you ;)
Its a nice site but what is with all the likes?
Ceyone Pillai BOTS BOTS BOTS!!!!!
One of the guidelines i go by is
Gamer PC only? or need cheap pc? Go AMD
If using more then gaming and word documents like Adobe programs, Go Intel
(i game and i use Adobe Programs so i got myself a Intel I7 core 4770K)
The "I think we're done here." was epic and a bit ominous.
I've upgraded from a phenom 2 x6 @3.0 to a Fx 6300. Was not expecting a lot of improvement but damn, that shit blew my mind lmao.
Heh.. I went from a Phenom 2 X2 511 (3.4Ghz) to a Phenom x6 1090T (3.22Ghz) and that blew me away. Also a new motherboard, RAM, and HDD. I can boot in under 20 seconds. Beats the old 3 minutes.
+Scott Johnson i have a laptop back from 2013 its was i3 sandy bridge so now my i5 6600k will blow it out from the earths atmosphere all the way to the suns core
this video needs a refresh
I need revived episode of this... CPU shopping 2021
the 8350 will perform slightly better on certain tasks because of its 8 cores where a comparable intel processor will perform slightly better on other tasks, most common ones actually, but the 8350 is quite a bit cheaper and will perform similarly.
