One of my favorites. When I was a kid, I thought this was just a musical with Vinnie Barbarino in it until I got older and realized that his name was John Travolta in a darn good movie. One of the best films about the 80's along with Boogie Nights.
Same. I saw the old PG version originally and only saw it as a dance movie but it has seem very mature themes and Travolta’s performance is brilliant. He’s a racist misogynist just like his buddies and he comes to the realization that the Disco has been using him when he sees the Hispanic act are way better than him and he can’t deny their talent. I think it says a lot about society and the media’s intention of maintaining the status quo. And that was a blockbuster. How things have changed
why is no one mentioning the rape scene in the movie, it always disturbed me why it was never adressed in the movie or by reviews ... i guess the 70's was a different time :/
The scene deeply disturbed and disappointed me. I know they were different times but I do wonder if the scents could be edited out these days. Not sure it really adds much to the movie, I don’t think it was necessary for the movies themes.
The first guy did not rape she consented. The second guy did rape but she took to many drugs and only realized her mistake after the drugs started to wear off. So she probably accepted that she had let herself down.Remember she played a small part in been part of this group of 3 guys.
@@paulnodalo9130 rape still happens. you might be right, but what exactly does that rape scene depict that shows the "story of life at that time"? honestly, i'm not trying to be mean, just wondering
Great job my friend. I like your professional approach with timestamps and your reasoning. My critique would be I appreciate more of your own personal opinion and analysis. Also, disappointed you did not include the early line dancing segment, that even Gene Siskel said was iconic, representing how the sequence brought a temporary camaraderie of those motley New York souls through dance.
Thanks, Phranq, I appreciate it. I tried to include more of the early line dancing segment but the studio hit my with copyright infringement and I had to remove it. This is really a stripped down version of the original analysis because of the copyright claims against me using the clips. Thanks again, Phranq!
When I was a kid in the late 80s', my dad had this movie on VHS. It was taped off the tv. Highly edited and the ending was cut off, so I didn't see the Bridge scene then. As an adult, I FINALLY got to watch it and was like: "Wait, there's f words and nudity in this?"😂
Thanks for taking the time to watch this video, Cozy. It is a great film. Don't think they'd make a film like this today as it isn't politically correct but very good.

My parents and relatives always repeated and stipulated of being good character and getting an education. In this country where there is opportunities there is no such thing as a ‘dead end job’ if you do your best towards a goal in life you can make it. I’ve proven that to myself many times over AND WHEN THE CHIPS ARE DOWN remember THERE IS ALWAYS HOPE. Trust in God because he does care.
I agree with you, Picco. I just used that phrase to describe Tony's view of his own circumstances. Anything that you do with pride is a good job, imo, and worth being proud of. Anybody who judges a person by what he or she does for a living isn't worth your time, anyway.
It is the best disco dance movie. It's my all time favorite movie. I've seen Saturday Night Fever over 400 times and never have gotten tired of watching it.
I was anticipating your discussion on the part where ANNETTE, against her wishes, engages in intimate activities with Tony's friends, swapping places, ultimately compromising her dignity for the sake of love. Similarly, Tony follows Stephanie down a similar path, resulting in the loss of his own dignity. The sequence takes on a dark tone, and I'm curious to hear your thoughts on it.
Thank you for this. I remember watching the PG rated version when I was 12 years old. I loved the music and dancing and had no idea how well written this movie was.

I would not accept his parents are disfunctional. His monther and grandmother loved him as well as his siblings.Deep down I feel his father loved him too.
His parents were definitely dysfunctional. You can feel love for another human being and still be dysfunctional. The mother had an unhealthy obsession with her son being a priest where it seems she placed all her hopes and dreams, while expressing feelings of rejection toward her younger son for not following his brother into the priesthood. The father is on the narcissistic spectrum. He never utters a nice word to Tony and slaps the back of his head multiple times. When Tony tells him about his pay raise, all he can do is mock it as nothing. And what does Tony hear? Son you're nothing! When Tony confronts his father, the man doesn't hear a thing. '$4.00....shit.' When the wife says that they will always eat good in that house even if she has to get a job, he is livid because she hit him, she talked back and she talked about getting a job. The rage in his face (if looks could kill) as he stares her down comes from somewhere more than what she just said and did in that moment. That family is most definitely dysfunctional, but I believe they loved each other as much as they could.
