    I’m replacing my S90D with the Bravia 8, and can tell you with confidence that I know I’ve made the right decision. All the gushing about the S90D’s measurements across the board here does not apply in actual practice/real content, and frankly was really disappointing. After MUCH time calibrating it and playing with absolutely every white point balance, colour and picture setting possible there was just no getting around its crappy processing. HDR was either dim as hell on its own, or blown right out if you turned on any kind of contrast enhancement. And for a tv that is supposed to have a perfect HDR gradient mine had a boatload of colour banding that was very noticeable in both regular picture, and game mode. It’s a colour beast for sure, and VERY bright, but it comes at the cost of picture quality which really makes it all for naught. The Bravia 8 may not be as bouncy and bright, but it makes up for it with image depth, peak highlight placement and a much more natural and cinematic feel. It feels like looking into the tv as opposed to just looking AT it on the Samsung. Plus, Samsung’s updates are a killer. The latest one nerfed the image quality, and locks you out of the service menu , which takes away any sort of ability to lift the restraints on its quality factor. Moral of this rant is to not let the readings and measurements of a tv sell you on its actual performance. I learned that the hard way, but was fortunately able to right the mistake I made, and would go Sony again every time

      @Torana355 2 дні тому

      This reply sums up why Sony has so many loyal fans in the TV world, it might not be the brightest or most vibrant but it has a natural picture quality with depth and realism, they also have fantastic processing . I have a Sony 65 inch a80j and I absolutely adore it. Only thing I want is a 77 inch now.

    What's' crazy for the UK the S90D is by far the cheapest! Especially from Samsung directly! Really with LG would do QD-OLED to really compete with colour of the Samsung. For years OLED downside has been brightness I think from about the C2 it's been bright enough Samsung chose to chase colour (Plus added brightness) LG seem to just want to chase brightness at the expense of colour and heat.

    Excellent comparison of these three models.
    However, it seems to me that Samsung's lack of support for any Dolby video processing is glossed over for some reason. From what I've been able to determine, the majority of quality HDR streaming movies and series use Dolby Vision. Samsung, apparently, refuses to support Dolby, and instead supports a Samsung-owned technology of HDR 10+...which very few streaming content providers support. I would think this is a rather significant shortcoming, and not one to be ignored.

    There’s something you forgot. The tuners. I think the Sony Bravia 8 is the only one out of these 3 that has an ATSC 3.0 tuner. And Samsung doesn’t usually have an option for auto picture size. And fit to screen is often disabled when watching broadcasts. I bought last year’s A80L back in May and it has this problem that’s very disappointing. Sometimes the picture flickers for about a millisecond. It’s impossible to diagnose because Sony wants me to try and capture it on video but it’s pretty much impossible since it happens so infrequently. And I do like the Google TV interface.

      You could always buy a smart remote. I bought some "no name" brand one from amazon years ago and its great. It connects to your phone with an app and then you can add new tvs and stuff.. The BEST PART is an unexpected feature though. Staying at hotels where they lock down the TVs with their custom remotes that block HDMI inputs and stuff. Bring your smart remote and BE THE HOTEL TV KING. I traveled for 3 months staying in hotels across the country and not a single TV stood a chance. I bring my laptop to connect and before this remote, you had to fight every single TV at the hotel to get it switch to inputs. Usually disconnecting its network, removing all HDMI, reboot etc etc.

I had been thinking about an LG for some time, but when it came time to pull the trigger, I remembered how much I disliked the Magic Remote of the LG I bought about four years ago and started shopping Sony since intuitive UI is their trademark.
    I think that for consumers who aren't power users but who appreciate the perfect black levels of OLED, the tactile interface with the remote may be more significant to their long term satisfaction with the product than a few more nits of brightness or a higher refresh rate.

    Great video! However, I think it's a shame that this video was made before LG's new firmware update for the C4. The update brings better peak brightness, a fixed gamemode with significantly higher brightness and the color calibration is now perfect! I was able to buy a new 65-inch C4 for 950€, making it a clear non-brainer compared to the Samsung or Sony. 🙌🏻

      DTS audio would not play from that TV's native apps or any media device when connected directly to the TV.

They also need to have a simple solution for operating 2 Samsung TVs right next to each other. At this point I have 4 different brands in my sports bar living room. Yeah... I almost got the Samsung S90D; then I saw a bunch of image motion issues in-person and picked up the Sony instead. Videos online can only do so much. Go stand in Costco / Best Buy for a few hours looking at exact same content on the different screens if you want to really choose. Be careful with that -- a lot of TV demos do mostly camera pans for motion -- really watch for specific game and movie / sports humans in motion. You'll see for yourself.

    • @omc951
      @omc951 2 місяці тому +10

      If you’re going to judge off the Costco feed and see them side by side, it’s important to note that Costco employees set up the TVs themselves and the settings are going to be varied. The “motion issues” you described don’t exist outside of aggressive out of the box eco, standard, and dynamic modes and can be turned off or adjusted inside these modes. If you look most sets from all brands are set up in a basic mode with motion interpolation all the way up which exacerbates artifacts in poor feeds like Costco built in feed and sometimes their own demo content.

It is my understanding that DTM has come far enough that DV isn't as important as it used to be, but if you want tonemapping that is more accurate to what was intended it is still going to be the preference for many people.

      It's a good jump. I have a c1 and I was real surprised at how good the c4 looks with the right settings.
      Noticeably brighter. For my money I think I'd rather have size having seen how good the c4 can be.

    Can you make a comparison video of b4 vs s85d?
