      I've noticed similar things happening when my moss and floaters start to get out of hand, the other plants suffer due to lack of available nutrients. Finding the balance can be hard but it's important for overall plant health.

    Hi, that's a very good video. How can I actually encourage the growth of algae in my shrimp tank? I have 2 tanks with active substrate but there is not algae on the glass. I dose Thrive S at half the recommended dose and do 10 water change with RO and remineralizer for caridina. Lights are on 10 hours a day. Feeding and stock is light.

    • @BobMossNanoTanks
      @BobMossNanoTanks  3 роки тому +3

      Do a full fert dose instead of half, or half dose more often. Maybe up to 12 hours of light a day. I have an extra light I rotate onto tanks that seem to be lacking in biofilm / algae as well.

    Great information ☺️ .I'm having a problem with fuzz algae. My tank does test no nitrates no nitrites . I add my liquid fertilizer once a week after water change.. I use fluval grow Plus with iron and for root tabs I use seachem flourish tabs. Just redid the tabs as I was behind schedule in replacing them . In your opinion in your, should I dose more nitrogen?

    • @BobMossNanoTanks
      @BobMossNanoTanks  Рік тому

      more nitrogen is going to make the algae even worse most likely. You can try spot treating with h2o2 to kill the algae, it usually works. I have a video coming out on Saturday about that!

    I took my submerged Rotala and put it in my new tank which has a great source of full spectrum light and CO2 injection. However, the Rotala leaves did not transform from round to bush as expected although it has been 2 weeks. Is it a symptom of nutrients deficiency?

    Awesome video, too bad I will never know the real cause of why my floating plants are yellowing(mostly amazon frogbit looks like doodoo) and some new growth on the cuculata floater bin is pale green. This feels like Saving Private Ryan...but for my floaters! 😎 I am left with 2 options, the low tech thrive which you mentioned, or feed my legion of ramshorn more generously 🤣 What do you think man? I mean you are master snail breeder as well, you must have considered such options before 🤪

    • @BobMossNanoTanks
      @BobMossNanoTanks  Рік тому +1

      This might be odd but are the tops of the plants getting wet? While they are aquatic plants, floaters in particular do not like being very wet. I have lost a couple types of floaters over the years because my snails kept pulling the healthy parts underwater and causing it to die.

    • @ragingcalmness7815
      @ragingcalmness7815 Рік тому

      well i do have snails doing all the gardening now and hopefully it will improve. I see red outline on the new leaves of the frogbit and also their underside is bright red. Couldnt find definitive evidence, but seems like I have them under extremely high light which is possible. They are 6 inches away from those 4ft long LED full spectrum plant grow lights. I ll move them this weekend and tone it down. I was doing some rummaging and even found some hella outgrown piece of rotala bonsai under there with deep red colouration. I didnt even know i put it there. Thanks though, I did get the "thrive" and hopefully plants will pick up soon in my main aquarium. Did you notice any difference between the low tech and the shrimp one you tried? 😅@@BobMossNanoTanks

    Not related to plants but hence you reply to comments, how can we stop calcium growth on the glass of our tank? I have been struggling on this for ages and really have never come up with a permanent solution, hope you will reply, thanks

    • @BobMossNanoTanks
      @BobMossNanoTanks  3 роки тому +1

      Hmm, that's a bit of an odd problem. I would start by asking, how hard is your water? If you can, trying lowering the TDS with an RO unit or by diluting with some distilled water. That will just bring the hardness down in general.
      Now, if that's not possible, the only way to prevent it, IMO, is to limit evaporation. So get a tight fitting lid. If it's really annoying you, you can actually use white vinegar with livestock in the tank to clean off the residue. I would look up a quick guide on the exact method but basically you use a 50/50 mix of vinegar and some tank water, get a scrub brush of some kind and soak it in the solution and then scrub away the calcium. The vinegar CAN lower the pH a little but it tends to evaporate before anything bad happens.
      Hope this helps! Let me know if you have any other questions!

    • @BobMossNanoTanks
      @BobMossNanoTanks  3 роки тому

      @@maisaanmufeed438 Not a problem, my pleasure!
      The pH is whatever, you want it to be in the target area for the fish / shrimp you're keeping. You want to target the TDS, slowly lower that and you will have less calcium buildup.

      Sorry, but I think you misunderstood that section entirely. If your city water uses ammonium instead of just chlorine, then by dosing Prime you seperate the ammonium into its component parts, which are ammonia and chlorine. Adding this water to your tank will then add ammonia (nitrogen).
