The classic film actor Ernest Borgnine played Lieutenant Commander Quinton McHale who was the lead character on the show. He was in charge of the Navy crew and had a commanding presence on the show. I love Ernest Borgnine and Tim Conway and the way they pulled things over on capt. Binghamton. Absolutely classic show
Joe Flynn & Tim Conway were the highlights of the show, while EB played it straight. Good mix. Good cast. Great show!
My favorite character from "McHale's Navy" is by far Lester Gruber played by Carl Ballantine. He led an amazing life both on & off screen.
Ernie and Carl were both born in 1917 and they lived long.
Loved him on Car 54, he was Tootie's BIL.
For me, there was no 1 special actor, they all contributed to the show that's what made it so successful. Mchale's Navy joins the air force was truly a very funny movie with all the original guys. Very Well Done.
I was an impressionable kid growing up watching McHales Navy and Ensign O'Toole, Gomer Pyle USMC that sort of influenced my direction to join the Navy, ending up as an 8404 FMF Navy Corpsman or Devil Doc. The Navy I joined in 1977 is far from what was portrayed on TV, in Movies, and it was a real wake up call. Still there was no Shortage of Beer Booze, Sea Stories, Laughter, Endless Duty Watch and the practical jokes that goes with it, and Liberty Call Shenanigans.
This was a great show with an extremely talented cast. Glad to know 2 are still surviving.
Well, you're right the cast of McHale's Navy was stellar. It's really hard to choose a favorite. I like Joe Flynn's Captain "Lead Bottom" and his constant, "What, what, what?", But I also Ernie Borgnine's McHale, and Tim Conway's Ensign Parker.
At Basil Varian.. OLE Lead Bottom was The Star!
No mention of Captain Binghampton's aide Lt. Carpenter. Of the nurses. Molly was McHale's girl.
Joe Flynn was hilarious in those Disney movies. I thought he was boring on Ozzie and Harriot.
Yes old Lead Bottom could be side tracked so easily while talking and that just made things worse.
You forgot Tim Conway played with Carol Burnett on "Momma's Family". I will never forget the script when he broke up Dick Van Dyke about the elephant. I miss most of the actors you profiled here. Thanks for reminding an old man of great scripts.
Thanks for watching!
Flynn was the best on that show. Gruber was good but Flynn made me laugh out loud.
Tim Conway and Joe Flynn were the comedy in the show! It was a great show and I have seen every episode!
Will try to watch this show again if possible. For me has to be Tim Conway.
Ernest Borgnine did the voice of Mermaid Man on the cartoon SpongeBob SquarePants.
Tim Conway was great and went on The Carol Burnet Show.
All awesome actors .
Tim Conway was on The Carol Burnett Show.
As the previous post mentioned, Gavin McLeod had a pretty big part in the Mary Tylor Moore Show.
And there was that Academy Award Borgnine won for Marty, kind of a big deal.
Yeah, and he played Sgt. Fatso Judson in "From Here To Eternity", he was also in "Johnny Guitar", "Demetrius And The Gladiators", "Bad Day At Black Rock" and this all was before "Marty".
Kinda' hard to forget that,
"C'mon Fatso, lets go" line, from Burt Lancaster.
Man, that's a hard thing to pick a fave out of McHale's Navy. I really liked them all, but Quinton McHale was the man. I always like the brains of the outfit, but everyone had their place. Fuji was very kewel as well. Liked him a lot. Sure do miss those days....sigh....
Gavin McLeod also was Murray Slaughter on the Mary Tyler Moore show.
Also the Captain of the love boat
Was Moriarty the hot rodding second in command to Oddball in Kelly's Heroes , " Always the with the negative waves "
He also played a bank robber on The Andy Griffith Show
He hated doing McHale's Navy and got released from the contract early. He said it caused depression and hurt his career early on.
GAVIN MACLEOD WAS ALSO ON "MY FAVORITE MARTIAN " WITH BILL BIXBY AS TIM O'HARA AND RAY WALSTON AS MARTIN O'HARA!
I loved all those characters. As a matter of fact, I was in the Royal Australian Regiment (Infantry), and we had our Platoon Commander (who we all disliked intensely but got to know the bloke and we all became a great mob of friends) We nicknamed out Platoon Commander SQUEAKY as he had a high voice. As time progressed we all became close friends (like brothers) and we nicknamed Squeaky as Lieutenant Commander "Squeaky" McHale. Our dedicated platoon vehicle was a TRUCK that was fitted with a tarp on the back, and in big letters, and in CHALK, we wrote the *Serial Number PT 73* and I can assure you, the shenanigans we got up to made the Real McHALE look like a girl guide. Watching this episode brought back a flood of memories. Squeaky and a number of other of my old army mates have passed on, and I believe I am the last one left. RIP Lads. *AT THE GOING DOWN OF THE SUN, AND IN THE MORNING, WE WILL REMEMBER THEM. LEST WE FORGET*
I especially remember Ernest Borgnine from Airwolf which was about that helicopter.
And who could forget Tim Conway's :Mr.Tudball"along with Carol Burnett's "Misses a Wiggins"on The Carol Burnett Show.
Joe Flynn also did dramatic roles a couple of times on the 50s submarine show "The Silent Service". He played the sub's medic.
A couple important references were missed. Gavin McLeod also starred in the Mary Tyler Moore show and Tim Conway is a major part of the Carol Burnett show.
The pilot for McHale’s Navy was produced by Fred Astaire - Seven Against the Sea - 1962 with McHale, Willie and Christie.
I loved most of the comedies of the late 60's and the early 70s they were all really funny. McHale navy was one of my favorites it was great rip cast members and thank you for the wonderful memories.
Seven Against the Sea 1962 is the pilot movie.
Wonderful show!!!! We just watched several episodes last night and laughed like crazy! I had a craving to hear Captain Binghamton say, "I could just scream!" Although the whole cast is amazing, Joe Flynn is my favorite with all his expressions and his way of talking.
We're happy to know that you love the show. Thank you for sharing your thoughts. If we may ask, which episode did you like the best?
@@FactsVerse I don't recall the name of the episode, but it was the one where Tim Conway gets captured by the 'Nips.' Don't know if it was in your group of shows or not because we didn't have time to watch all of them. Conway was so good at talking so much and driving that commander crazy. I think the actor's name is Mako -- he is so great!!!
Carl Ballantine as Lester Gruber. Leadbottom's favorite name for McHale's enlisted crew was "pirates". Could'na had pirates without Gruber as the head scallywag.
Chief Urulu was notoriously absent from this video tribute. No Frenchy either (George Kennedy).
Borgnine was the Academy Award winner for his role in the movie Marty in 1955.
Tim Conway was my favorite actor on MHales Navy
I just can not pick one they are all great. In saying that I really enjoyed the way Tim Conway and Joe Flynn went at it.
I remember those bit parts on 1974’s Little House which led up to EB’s making it big on 1962’s McHe’s Navy (WTF?)… Also his “bit part” in 1956’s Marty, which won him the Academy Award for best actor in a leading role.
I loved the show it brings memories back to me
We're happy to know that you're a fan of the show! Which episode is the most memorable for you?
Borgnine won the best actor Oscar in 1954. This guy never mentioned that.
Bob Hastings also played Kelsey
the bartender on All In The Family .
I loved that show they don't have TV shows like that any more.
Thanks for watching, Jean!
You can say that again. Makes me rather sad we don't have good shows like this anymore. Kind of realistic enough, not this fake crap like we have and our grandkids have today. No real hero models like these guys were.
OMG GREAT SHOW
I love all of them and watch it every day....
Captain Bington OLE Lead Bottom! He Was THE STAR!! Like Curley Howard of The 3 Stooges!
JOE FLYNN🤓 AS CAPTAIN WALLACE BINGHAMTON! PEN🖋 HEAD!😂😅
I loved them all but if I had to pick one, it was "Captain Binghamton". Such a wonderful actor, the whole show pivoted around his "hatred" of McHale, whom we all loved.
This comedy series was great, and it had a great ensemble cast. Great show it was very funny.
Epic cast! I loved Captain Binghamton the most! I watch it to this day.
True fan spotted! What's your favorite Mchale Navy's episode?
@@FactsVerse I liked the episode which ended with Capt. B. running around in circles because the antics of the others had driven him crazy.
Does anyone remember the title of that episode?
For me it'll always be Tim Conway as Ensign Parker.
Of course Tim was the quintessential comic actor.
Besides being on Carol Burnett he did a voice over as himself on The Simpsons and had a recurring role on Married With Children as Peg Bundy'd Dad.
I agree. I loved Capt Binghampton. I liked all the cast. too
Great show! I grew up watching it in reruns after school each day. You got to know the characters and it was like your "home away from home" to keep you company. As I recall there was also a McHale's Navy comic book and a model kit of the PT-73 complete with little crew figures. And of course the two color movies. And is my memory playing tricks or did they do an episode featuring the PT-109 with President-to-be Kennedy on board?
Tim Conway----he could make a corpse laugh!
😀😃😄😁😆😅🤣😂🙂🙃😉😊😗☺️😚😙🥲😋😛😜🤪😝🤑🤗🤭🥳🥸🧐😺😸😹😼😽
Love that show.
Who's your favorite from the cast, Jose?
You never mentioned that Gavin McLeod starred for all 7 series of the Mary Tyler Moore Show
Mchale army and Hogan heroes are where similar to Mash , yet Mash become more successful than Mchale and Hogan . Mchale and Hogan are very good shows that deserved more popularity.
I just watched it, every week I do.
Always a classic !🇦🇺
FUN FACT: McHale's Navy was made into a Movie with even a bigger seller cast that did Honor the original cast. As far as I know only Ernest Borgnine was the only original member to appear in the movie! Gary Vincent is a true tragedy 😢!
Interesting, thank you so much for sharing this information! What other types of videos would you like to see on our channel?
A tragedy indeed for all concerned and involved.
Funny show. Grew up watching it. Tim Conway was hilarious. You kind of skipped his movie career and of course oscar. He did live Ling live he looked great at his last Emmy awards
How do you talk about Tim Conway and not mention “The Carol Burnett Show”? That was his best work.
FV DONE A GOOD JOB oN THIS MINI DOCUMENTARY well done..i say if you want to learn how to write script formats..this is the show to watch and learn from..still fresh today..maybe next time FV can name some of the guest stars that were on it like raquel welsh to name a few
It was one of my favorite TV shows when I was a kid.
Who's your favorite from the cast, King Lam?
My favorite has to be fuji. With hie skipper san!!!, skipper san!!!!
POW an The PT-109 Crew Loved him....trying to hide him.....Great Comedy...
From time to time, didn't he exclaim, "Mamma Mia!"?
They’ll never really die. And fyi 6/28/23 Willie is still with us. Pray for Christie’s soul - so freakin sad. 🙏
I would like to report this as being totally sadistic
We don't need to know how they died
Borgnine's best know screen role was in Marty, a 1955 movie in which he was the lead actor and which won best picture that year. Surely you could have mentioned that.
Had the exact same thought during that introduction for Borgnine. And not only did Marty win Best Picture (along with Best Director and Best Screenplay awards) but Ernest took home Best Actor, as well. Certainly a notable career achievement that should have been in the vid. 👍
I agree! His big screen rolls were not mentioned.
@@rodjohnson2534 Didn't he also have a supporting role in FROM HERE TO ETERNITY?
He was in the movie, "Ben," although his character was sleazy.
Yoshio Yoda just recently passed away first week of February 2023
All of them!
Do Bobby Riggs. Great videos.
Surprised by omissions such as Tim Conway's multiple appearances on the Carol Burnett Show - surely his most memorable comic work often appearing with Harvey Kormann - one of the all-time great TV comic duos. Another omission - - what about Gavin McLeod [Gavion?? in the video??] who was very popular on the Mary Tyler Moore show - which ran for many years. For those who never heard of "McHale's navy" I have to wonder - what other show was appearing that made you unaware of that comic show? We only had three or four channels back in the day . . .
Tim Conway on the CB show. The Elephant story - top ten clip in tv history, hilarious!
Thanks you my friend see you soon 😁
Bruh how do you have millions of subs but less then 1k views
Joe Flynn Beington.
At Gator 1699...YES!
THAT'S JOE FLYNN🤓!
He was the the best.@@jeanbaumgartner4052

ERNESTO BORGNINE🐯 AS SKIPPER QUINTON MCHALE AND TIM CONWAY🐺 AS MR.CHARLES PARKER !TIM CONWAY👨🦳 WAS DEFINITELY HILARIOUS 😂 😅TOGETHER WITH HARVEY CORMAN ON "THE CAROL BURNETT SHOW "
There is no mention of Gavin McLoed as Murray Slaughter on The Mary Tyler Moore show.
Bob Hastings kid brother is Actor Don Hastings who played Doctor Bob Hughes on the Soap As the World Turns.
Myfariver is Bobby wright as willy
🤔Tim Conway did stand up in the Carols Burnett show also
The Carol Burnett Show
NOT TOO LONG AGO I WATCHED THE FILM MARTY WITH EB AS THE MAIN CHARACTER EXCELLENT FILM!!!!!
Still watch it almost every day on MeTV
What's your favorite episode, Mark?
@@FactsVerse Probably any of the ones with Harulu.
It should also be mentioned that Ernest Borgnine won an Academy Award for the film Marty. However he was grossly underpaid for his role in Mchales Navy.
How did your research miss Ernest Borgnine"s Oscar for the 1955 film Marty?
My favorite character was Capt. Binghamton
My 2 favorite were Tinker and Gruber
Thank you for sharing your favorites! Be safe and have a great day ahead. By the way, is there any other types of video you would like to see?
BILLY SANDS AS SEAMAN "TINKER" BELL 🛎 &CARL BALLANTINE AS SEAMAN LESTER GRUBER🦤!

Favorite character? McHale, obviously, and Parker.
THE SAME HERE ABOUT ERNEST BORGNINE🐯 AS SKIPPER QUINTON MCHALE AND TIM CONWAY🐺 AS MR.CHARLES PARKER!
Tim Conway
Love them all, but Joe Flynn was great as Captain Lead Bottom Binghamton. Wha Wha Wah? What in the deep blue Pacific? Of course Ernest Borgnine, Tim Conway, Bob Hastings, Carl Ballantine, Yoshia Yoda. Call Ballentine’s character scheming and messing up as a magician. Tim Conway’s character was kind of like Gilligan.
THAT'S CARL BALLANTINE AS SEAMAN LESTER GRUBER!
Edson Stroll was in a Twilight Zone episode.
there’s pt boats on this movie too
"MCHALE'S NAVY⚓️ "IS A 1960s TV 📺 SHOW NOT A MOVIE!🤭🙄

0:48 left out "Mc" in Quinton McHale character name.
Tim Conway was my favorite
John Bobby Wright 100%
In a way it reminds me of Black sheep squadron
Edson Stroll appeared in the 1962 movie The Three Stooges Meet Hercules.

Joe Flynn
I like almost these guys didnt know Flynn die so young so sad
After the show ended and people were clamoring for reunion specials, didn't Borgnine say that that was impossible because it wouldn't be the same without Flynn?
@@youtuber5305ERNESTO BORGNINE AS HIMSELF IS ABSOLUTELY RIGHT ABOUT THAT!BECAUSE THE RÉUNION SHOW DEFINITELY WOULDN'T BE THE SAME WITHOUT JOE FLYNN!😢
