Borgnine is such a joyful person on screen or off that it makes it hard to figure how he got into playing villains at the start of his career.
I enjoyed this every week as a kid.
Captain Binghamton was my favourite. Hilarious.
The theme song is indelibly etched in my brain from watching this show as a child!
One of my all time favorite episodes!
The expression on McHale’s face when he’s standing just behind the Captain while Lieutenant Carpenter is explaining to Binghamton how HIS boat is now missing is priceless.
McHale and his crew could’ve saved themselves all that grief if, instead of pretending to camouflage PT73, they would’ve just sent Ensign Parker and some of crew back into the jungle to hide so if and when the Captain showed up McHale could have explained to Binghamton that Parker had the boat out checking the engines or something.
But of course then you wouldn’t have the zany set of events that made up the rest of this hilarious episode....
yes this early episode one of the best...fantastic writing by the production..one learns about script writing from this show...joe flynn the best as usual
Funniest part to me was when they realized they had no beer on board !
I would be hard pressed to pick a favorite character on this show, they were all great.
he was amazing actor, as were numerous others on the show
I always liked this show when it first came on 📺.
This is my favorite McHale's Navy episode some of the best moments was when McHale was screaming at Virgil about losing the boat but the best moment was when The Captain was inspecting Carpenters boat in reality it was McHale's
Best show ever loved the whole cast. Tim’s Conway funny on here and on the carol Burnette show.
pam at the time in the 50s 60s 70s most tv shows were geared towards males..fantastic show but hardly any women in it i find it hard to believe like a get smart episode that you dig this show..well done
Excellent episode of McHale's Navy.
OMG "Come on men, look sloppy!"
Car 54 where are you
PT 73 where are you
Love the show, reminds me of my childhood and being in the Navy.
Thank you Jackie.
Willie, if we had a boat could you paint the number 73 on it?
Sure, I know the whole alphabet!
willie ,fuji and happy are the only ones still on earth ..bless them
a church key to open the beer , gotta love that
Loved watching this show
I remember on the original syndication, this episode had the closing credits run a couple of seconds longer.
Joe Flynn basically played the same character in whatever show or movie he was in, but his comedic timing and facial expressions were priceless.
Yea i lost it years ago.. And I'm not looking for.. I try to keep my life simple.... Well on my boat me never leave home without the coldies.. A.k.a. the compass.. I hope everyone had a good time.😀🐟🐟🐟🐡🐡
Andy Griffith was great of watch by millions show and, McHale*s Navy
💛HILARIOUS💛
Anyone notice the difference in torpedo tubes when the 116 returned?
I noticed Fuji was part of the crew on the way to New Caledonia! Probably a first for the US Navy!
What a classic. .
McHale's Navy entered syndication in September 1967, along with Hazel. In the original syndication package, I remember this episode with an extra long closing credits by several seconds, with a verse being repeated.
Watched Adam-12 today billy sands who played tinker was in it. He played a bartender in it.
He also played a bartender in a Happy Days episode & a guest spot in The Odd Couple the same season when Oscar & Felix tryed their hand as police officers
Wonder how many younger folk thank that these and Hogan's heroes is the way it was in the big war,,if anyone reading this was there thxs for all you did,,gb
This and other programs from the time fed on and ,if you will; trivialized WW2 and the Korean Conflict. No offense intended to anyone. This was American TV fodder of the time. I saw it live in my youth. Funny and entertaining.
@@timothymcdonald6913 they are great fun to watch,, these shows from that time are about the only ones I like as for good comedy's,,also I have been trying to remember a few I had seen from England that we use to watch that would have us holding our sides,,,thxs for the reply,,,gb
Glen Baker I agree with you. Have also been reliving my young days of television watching the Beverly Hillbillies along with Petticoat Junction, McHales Navy and might be looking at The Man From U.N.C.L.E. By the by, Thank you for your pleasant reply. When you figure out the English shows let me know. Always up for something funny. There are a few that my wife found, but they stem from the very late 60s into the 70s.
Glen Baker apologies for not replying soonest. Yes these were a very good watch from my youth and I do appreciate them to this day. As for some of the British bits I have seen some and as I remember they were quite funny. Need a nudge as to which ones! Thank You for noticing me!
I'm sure the real navy wasn't like this, but this is sure fun to watch, thxs 4 the video, gb
1 of my favorite programs in my young days back in da l8t 60 s 😍
It was mentioned very rarely that carpenter had a PT boat. He’s never seen in it . That’s a shame. There were many PT boats in the pacific but they never showed them.
GOOD SHOW I LIKE IT
Beer cans! Too bad Jeffrey Hunter wasn't there. He encountered beer cans underwater in THE PRIVATE NAVY OF SERGEANT O'FARRELL, another great comedy!
10:45 The funniest moment I've seen so far: "You can save yourself a lot of time---"
Never Seen This Episode Until Today
Joe Flynn's reaction at 7:27 is priceless. This show would not have worked with out him as the foil for McHale and crew.
According to IMDB, Joe Heller -- the writer of this episode -- is Jospeh Heller, author of Catch-22.
Late night laughter at it's best
Ensign Parker was the best character on the show. He thought of others. No one else did. He was a good officer with good intentions just poor follow through. Mchale was able to keep encouraging him in surviving his environment.
The Skiff pilot was not one of McHales, but Fuji didn't hide from him.
A beer with lunch...my how things have changed!
McHale wears an older model Navy officers hat . the other ones.are WW2 issue.
Nice crisp print, clear audio ! 👌🚤🚢⛵🚨
I’ve been sailing these islands for twenty years and I never !
Virgil was in a Twilight zone episode, Gruber was in a Car 54 where are you episode, Carpenter was in a Green acres episode.. The Captain was also in a twilight zone episode
Just like the "Car 54, Where Are You" episode where Toody and Muldoon painted a car to look like theirs while it was in the shop.
I used to love this show!
Having been restored through the modern Miracle of Technology to their former glory these classic icon sitcoms excellent and awesome they are and modern appearance brand new awesome and excellent they are to preserve such nostalgic memories of the past
This was one of the best shows on television the Navy Binghamton mc Hale and all the rest of the sailors. Great actors and Tim Conway and Ernest borgnine. All the guys were very good also. Always watched this show.
I really miss the old days when programs were designed not to disgrace the dignity of peoples homes when they turned on the television.
One of my favorites the guys are always scamming captain Binghamton
Funny how later on Carpenter had to be trained on how to run a boat... the writers forgot that he was the skipper of P.T. 116.
Yeah..., I always wondered how “Carpy” had time to be the Captain’s toady AND the skipper of PT116?
thats funny , mcleod went from pt 73 to capt. of the " love boat "
With a quick stop in the army with Kelley’s Heros working with Oddball.
Don't forget, he was also Murray, the newswriter on the Mary Tyler Moore Show in the 70's. All before he became skipper of the Pacific Princess.
Awsome show
Good one. I love it
I WISH YOU WOULD SHOW MORE
@ 5:52, only time I recall any of the crew wearing sunglasses.
This is just darrrn funny
0:00 1943 Next to the dock is a Land Rover Series 2A, which was not released until 1961. The reversing Jeep is the civilian version, released after the war.
Few if any noticed. Technical accuracy just needs to be close enough, not period precise. I knew it was a sitcom and just enjoyed the acting and the story line.
The show worked so well it actually turned out to be an effective recruiting tool for the USN at the time.
There are numerous incongruities throughout the series.
Some involve the script, others the sets or equipment and props. Most are barely noticeable. Even fun to watch for.
In an episode where Crewman “Happy” Haines sleepwalks; Ensign Parker makes reference to a photograph depicting his mother in a bikini.
The bikini bathing suit wasn’t introduced until sometime in the mid-50’s.
In one episode the crew had a pet baby chimpanzee. A creature native to equatorial Africa, not the Solomon Islands area of the Southern Pacific Ocean. Captain Binghamton kept referring to it as “The Hairy Boob”😂!
Another episode has McHale leading the crew and some of the nurses in a “first aid” lesson to the tune and rhythm of the “Cha-Cha.” Cha-Cha music wasn’t a thing and didn’t exist until after 1952.
I guess my point is who cares; the important thing was quality, talented comedy! A commodity relatively scarce nowadays....
The box BBB set I bought had the necklace dog tag quinten Michale but I love Wallace Binghamton most❤️❤️👩✈️
I loved this series. They will not show it nowadays because they use inappropriate names for the Japanese.
I saw it on TV as regularly scheduled programming less than a month ago.
@@noahparsons7688 Really, did they blank out the words I mentioned? Funny, they do the same with the term Krauts when they are referring to the Germans.
@@JoseRuiz-km6fd Last time I saw it, months ago on you tube, they blanked the word NIPS.
Good show
I am rebecca Curtis-perry number one sponsor forever and fan
This was my favorite show wen i was a kid ya im old
I have always loved McHale"s rats probally because i have known way to many narcinists... Let em keep pounding sand commander.
Of the cast of regulars just Hastings, Flynn,Stroll,Roberts, and Beckman were ever on Twilight Zone. All other regulars were non-TZ actors.
"IT" happens to be "70 Feet Long" &... "WEIGHS 30 TONS!!!"
Funny, no beer.
Said length of the 73 was 70 feet, PT boats were 80 feet in length!!
HILARIOUS🤓❤❗🇺🇸
RIP Ensign Parker.. anyone know what the flags at the beginning represent. I used to know
Loved the show. I don't remember what year they went from " church key " to pop top on beer.
Virgil lost the PT 73. Capt Binghampton. sends him to patrol Alaskan waters in the winter.
like this movies reason quick excuse
that a big boat to. lose! you got to be crazy to do that
Dean Johnson 70 ft. Vosper. The 80 ft. Elco was bigger. PT 109 was an Elco. The actual PT73 was a 78 ft. Higgins.
@@ronaldrobertson2332 Spark plugs got me thinking. The Higgins had 3 Packard gasoline motors. I was surprised that they didn't use diesels.
Diesels were being used by military vehicles, but surprisingly, I saw an M5A1 Stuart tank powered by two Chrysler gas engines ( 50th anniversary reenactment of D-Day, June 1994, Chicago.). Quietest tank I ever heard.
The marine Packards were fueled by 100 octane aviation gasoline. That's pretty much why they were easily destroyed by cannon fire.
Great tv. Not the garbage they have now.
2/25/15
What in the hell is this I was watching The Andy Griffith Show..
Elroy Jetson, Lt, USN
Not bad - they got 25 minutes out of swapping two boats. I may not have been lol'ing, but was I not entertained? I was not... not entertained. um, I was not *not* entertained.
-
i was entertained
that's what I meant.
Where is Rock Hudson????
is it me or does Mchale's Navy theme music sound a lot like "I Dream of Jeanie"?
Dang 7 days R & R beer an comics.stached on the wrong or rather the rightboat For vacation.. Navy ant never been like that carpenter an captain sad no way to run a army ,I mean navy . ha ha ..
65' long.
Lossing a motor torpedo boat . impossible . no f@$!! Way ! In real life they would been shot or spend their lives in Portsmouth naval brig .
when comedy wasn't king but a miserly pawn, the only one laughing is the laugh track.

Another favorite episode (condensed): ua-cam.com/video/w5KDRwaV70o/v-deo.html
Great show and episode, a but unfair though to the crew of the PT116 and 'LT Carpenter' though.
Great show! Binghamton laughing at the camouflage is priceless
