  • Hazy IPA's are all the rage, so why not make your own? So long as you can keep oxygen away from your beer, you can't go wrong.

Thanks, the beer keeps getting better with age. There's a grapefruit flavour coming through on it now.

What a beautiful color! I was thinking that you might have been able to increase your IG by reducing the volume of your wort by extending your boil time. The danger there is increased contact time for you bittering charge. Sounds like if you had put less Magnum in or dropped the Magnum at the 30 minute mark and pushed your 20 addition to flame out you might give yourself some leeway if you needed to extend your boil to adjust your gravity up a couple of points. Your comment about rice hulls is right on- in my house: anything with oats automatically gets rice hulls. Rice hulls are your friend unless you goal is to make a massive batch of porridge. Struck sparges are no fun. Also loved seeing the resident Magpie! Great video.

Thanks, I'm still dialling in the effiency on the brewhouse, it might take a few more large batches before I'm used to it.

Thinking further about your low gravity: Maybe soft cold crash and decant some of the liquid off of your starter unless you factored that into your recipe or do the same with an even Larger starter to really effectively chew through those sugars. What was your final gravity after all? Couldn't tell from your graph. Again. Excellent video. What about swapping out Motueka for your Vic Secret. Love those hops.

I've started doing just that. Putting the starters on earlier so I have time to crash and decant before pitching. FG was 1.016. I've got some Motueka for an NZ pilsner and I definitely want to try the Hazy again, so might swap them out. I might call it a NIIPA - North Island IPA :D
