    Great video. My issue was finding a great trainer. I watched so many videos and looked up so many artists. I realized some people spend too much time talking, and by the time i finish watching a video or reading a chapter, I just don't want to draw anymore because i felt lost at the end. I recently found my trainers, and even though I'm only a couple days into drawing consistently, I actually want to get up and not only draw but learn. I loathe fundamentals, but learning from artists like Marco Bucci, Airi Pan, Michael Mattesi, Patrick J Jones and Steve Huston has been wonderful. I'm excited for the journey because I feel like i have the right guides now.

    Bro this was so good! I’ve been practicing portraits and each time I go in and practice I have to slow myself down and really sit there and observe the reference before putting lines down. When I jump in straight to drawing, I feel like I’m sounding out every letter of a word and not know what word I’m even saying. Haha! Gotta unify to simplify. That was sick! Thank you for the wisdom! 🙏🏽

    Amazing bro!
    I'm learning to enjoy the process of drawing, and training each day more!
    It's like going to the gym, sometimes it sucks to just lift heavy stuff, and things like that, but after a week, after a month, you just turn the music loud and everything disappears!

    Hey Charlie, this is truly one of the best video series I've ever seen. As an artist myself and also please for other aspiring artists out there. Please listen.. first of all thank you Charlie. Second, I was always so sensitive about my art and when I went to Ringling everyone knows that they tear your stuff apart sometimes literally. Many alumni can vouch for that! First we can't expect to be amazing artists without those fundamentals and we need to put the legwork in. I did the same thing that Charlie was doing. My stuff which I haven't uploaded yet IS getting better and he's right! Like everyone has their own style. Everyone. And everyone is at their own level. For one thing I am such a dick to myself to my own art and I know that! So many of us who are struggling are not beginners! We are people who already in this stage right now. And we want to make comics, books, cartoons etc. also fuck the companies . Fuck them. Work for yourself believe me! That way you won't have a dead line and depending on who it is they will NOT care about you.. they will work your ass to the bone. Commissions? I do them! But also learn background art perspective and everything and don't give up like charlie and I and all the other artists out there all have strengths and weaknesses... Let's keep going and show that world what we can do with our imagination! It's supposed to be fun it's not supposed to feel like work... Anyway yeah I rambled but I totally know the feeling! The feeling of how and where to put that body on the page! Have fun guys and love you all every aspiring artist out there! You can do it.

    How much time do you put in every day do u recon? I find it hard to keep my motivation up with the fundamentals. Helps when I try and draw a “project”. Any specific artists u learned from to get from 0 to 1?Appreciate the effort you put in every video. Great voice as well. Almost 30k! Keep it up.

    • @AnimeCharlie
      @AnimeCharlie  9 місяців тому +3

      Is 'recon' referring to researching drawing techniques? If so (apologies if I misunderstood), I invested time in grasping the fundamentals.
      Breaking down concepts in an understandable way helped me learn.
      I suggest placing your fundamental practice into your warm-ups, spending 15-20 minutes on shapes, gesture, and structure. Balancing what you enjoy drawing with growth-focused exercises is key.
      Steve Houston was the artist that got me from 0 - 1 , he is a charcoal/traditional artist, and he simplified concepts, and changed how I view drawing.
      Thank you for joining me on this journey - we shall see where 2024 takes us and this channel!

      @@AnimeCharlie I think they meant 'reckon'.

    • @AnimeCharlie
      @AnimeCharlie  9 місяців тому

      Ok gotcha.
      When first starting out. I put in anywhere from 2 - 4 hours Monday - Friday... I will say the more time you can put in the quicker you will learn. So do what you can however don't burn yourself out. For me I can get a bit obsessive so I was willing to wake up early and get after it.
      however once I moved past 0 -1 I don't put in as much time.
      However I try to do more focused learning. So now it might be an hour a day.sometimes more sometimes less. But really focused on some aspect of drawing.
      This year the focus learning will be on coloring and animation.
      Hope that helps!

    Would you have any tips for getting started, even with my limited drawing skills? Any advice at all would be hugely appreciated!
    Sorry for the slightly long message, but I'm so excited about this and wanted to ask my animator brother.

    • @AnimeCharlie
      @AnimeCharlie  9 місяців тому +1

      Yes of course!
      Ok depends on goals.
      If you are looking to animate I'm going to give you the mistake I made. I haven't started animating. lol.
      So when I fist started, I figured it would be better for me to learn drawing first. I'm glad I did as it has definitely grown my abilities. But now I'm realizing that animating is an entirely new skill set that leans on drawing abilities but does not require it.
      So oddly enough I would learn more about timing, spacing, frame rates, and all that first. Because I've seen some incredible sticking figure animations lately....
      Ok now to the drawing. If I were just starting out I would find an in depth course. Proko, Marc Burnet, etc.... maybe one day I'll have one 😉. However find someone whose style you like and have them teach you. Don't try to cherry pick your lesson from multiple teachers. I promise you it will add months to your journey. If you can focus on one teacher slow walking you thru the process it's like getting direct information downloaded into your mind. I wish I had done it sooner.
      Everything else I share in the video, so definitely rewatch to see how I approach learning now.
      Best of luck my friend.
