Whereas Corelli is sublime in verismo roles, including Puccini, I wish he weren't so sloppy when singing Verdi. Taking the 'Pira' down in pitch is not so much an issue, but he is just yelling most of lower lines and they don't have ANY pitch. This is not a Met performance, but a one-off with the rough and ready Philadelphia Opera. Judging by the ragged ensemble throughout, there must have been minimal rehearsal, if any. I must say Corelli's final note is magnificent, but I wish he'd sing the rest more accurately. Ah well, what we'd give to have this voice onstage today, in any capacity!
I don’t think it matters much if Di Quella Pira is sloppy. This is literally a battle commander screaming out orders. And soldier running to their weapons. This is not some delicate aria.

Ah! Perfect. The mid-20th century was truly a Golden Age for opera
Inigualable Franco Corelli en este aria de Il Trovatore
! Que voz tan magnífica!! 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Corelli ❤
I love it! Live performing! Whoever managed to record it is next to the timpani!
Vero, hai visto giusto
In effetti l ho sentito cantare meglio
Lowered, not in original pitch. He did it live almost always in a lower pitch. The same with Del Monaco. The high note is a B not a C
This tempo is absurd. No wonder he sounded so sloppy, the conductor didn't give any time to actually finish a line let alone catch a breath.

For me the maestro is rushing fast and doesn’t try to follow or support him! Probably no rehearsals!
@@OperaMyWorld I agree the tempo is ridiculously fast but he's off at least half the notes. Incredibly sloppy!

Shame, he who could sing it in C sings it in B-flat
I totally agree with you!! It was due to his nerves for sure...because at Act i trio he always sang the D flat!!
B Natural... not B flat
