Wait, if the star destroyers could destroy a planets surface, why did the empire waste so much money on the death star!? I get that the star destroyers would have taken their sweet ass time, but why does the empire (that controls the ENTIRE KNOW GALAXY) need to wipe out planets with that much efficiency!?
To install deep fear into the citizens of the galaxy, as a single weapon that can destroy an entire planet in a few seconds is far scarier than a few dozen star destroyers that can do it in a few hours (star destroyers that can only do it if the planet has no shields). Also in Legends, a lot of the super weapons (Death star included) built for the empire were also supposed to be used on the planet size ships used by the Yuuzhan Vong for when they attacked the galaxy.
Still it would take far less energy to wipe out all life on the surface of a planet or do damage to a huge ship is far less than the energy require to completely obliterate a planet
Correct me if I'm wrong. 1º. The Star Destroyers WOULD take a LOT of time to wipe out all the life in the planet, but they wouldn't destroy it, just kill everybody. 2º. They made the Death Stars to install fear, by ''DESTROYING PLANETS'', not ''killing every sign of life in it.
No it wouldn't, take Taris for example the surface was destroyed by the sith's forces but those who in the lowest level of Taris survived and who would want to send out their men to fight Rakghouls? Who by the way can turn everyone they scratch into one of their own, so it's either shoot a gigantic laser of death at the planet and suffer no casualties (talking about Stormtrooper casualties) or send out your men down there to kill any remaining life and it could take years for that to be done. And yes I am aware that the deathstar didn't exist back then, this is an example.
Because the Death Star was created with terror inflicting philosophy in mind. The galaxy had seen nothing like that before (Tarkin himself acknowledged that in ANH) so the effect was expected to be smashing. You still think in terms of American world-view as a huge economical playgrounds but totalitarian regimes in the Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union viewed economics just as a servile tool to carry out their crimes against their own people and other nations. That applies to the Soviet Union to the greatest extent possible: centralized state managing, no free market, ideology domination, all-embracing Military Complex - no need to count money, calculate spending which is so natural vein for any human being born in the West, especially in its Anglo-Saxon part. Remember - "common money" is "nobody's money". It looks like the Empire adopted the economical model of the most ruthless and regressive totalitarian regimes of the Earth. That's why their decision-making wasn't based off rational profit/deficit scheme.
Technically the Venator class star destroyer could have destroyed any other star destroyer class because of their tactic of deal massive damage with the many star fighters that they could carry while also staying out of the range of their enemy so when it does come to a standoff between the two capital ships, the enemy is very weak because the star fighters it carried were meant to go up against capital ships and the laser guns that the Venator class star destroyer had were almost like a double burst which had the first shot break the enemies shield and then the next shot would damage the enemy ship while the enemy would most likely still be getting shot at by the star fighters and Venator class star destroyers never traveled by themselves and there would always be at least 2 of them together.
Sorry Folks, but you can't beat the good old Imperial Class. As I have mentioned in a previous comment, the opening of the hangar doors on the Venator Class left most of the ship exposed to possible fire from the enemy. It was a bad design for practicality, but a good one for astethics.
***** but clones>stormtroopers I am fully aware that an imperial class would decimate a venator though... I think the clones would win a ground battle and imperials would win a space battle.
+Tommy Peli I agree completely. But we are just talking the design of the ship here, and not the actual crew who man it. So, the Venator itself has a glaring weakpoint that could very well render it useless if it were to be hit. Have a nice day!
I used to think the same thing for 30 years..lol..then one day I applied logic to it...Like, a ship that travels into space is a STARship if it wasn't in space it would just be a plane.. So you have the IRL the navy have destroyer class ships ....but say if you had the space equivalent it would be a Star Destroyer...if that makes sense...that's the best way I could think to explain it, and to be quite honest, when I was writing it, I confused myself...LOL
@@aryabuananurjaya2014 Not really, the Imperial is better for ship to ship combat, and would defeat a venator in a one on one fight. The Venator has its charm too though, and is good as a multipurpose carrier.
I would note that ships like the Mon Mothma seem to be their own type of Star Destroyer, though very similar in function to the Interdictor Star Destroyer (NJO: Star by Star).
Fun fact, most of the Imperial Star Destroyers seen in this video were actually Imperial IIs. The main differences are the barbettes (the ISD has 8 quad turbolasers while the ISD 2 has 8 octuple turbolasers) and the structure on top of the bridge. Imperial II has the bar, while the Imperial I has the massive X shaped structure seen at 1:37.
Intrestingly you didnt mentioned Allegiance classes or Phalanx Syndic or Ascendancy classes. And there are pictures for a Star destroyer named Chaff class from the EotH could be your CHISS class star destroyer
If you notice. The stardestoyers bridge deck between the two shield generators (balls at the top) can be seen either as one or two being another bridge deck on top of another bridge deck while some only have one.
Actually, the Acclamator-class was the first widely used star destroyer variant employed by the Grand Army during the clone wars. Star Destroyers actually go back thousands of years earlier if one counts any kind of visually similar vessel used by previous governments, such as the Sith Empires.
This is off subject but don't you wish the empire was still around when the yukzan vong attacked! Darth Vader vs yukzan vong with all them star destroyer! The emperor would wreck them!
in the legends universe it is believed that Palpatine foresaw the Vong invasion in a force vision and was creating his many super weapons, to subjugate/control the universe, and fend off/destroy the Vong
Your description of a star destroyer is very wrong, a star destroyer was merely a random term thrown around with no basis of any kind of measurment of actual ship class. Many ship types recently seem to have been retconned recently claiming to be "star destroyers" yet only a few years ago would be heavy cruisers, cruisers or just plainly capital ships. For example only in the last couple of years was the Venator or the interdictor ever called such a thing.. (also you said turbo blaster.. tsk tsk...)

So you have the IRL the navy have destroyer class ships ....but say if you had the space equivalent it would be a Star Destroyer...if that makes sense...that's the best way I could think to explain it, and to be quite honest, when I was writing it, I confused myself...LOL
Tee Ravie
HAHA
JaxToons the thing is they can the just need a lot of fuel they just don’t do it because it will destroy most things in the large area

well your a bit off
The Venator Class star destroyer.!!!!!!!!
Woo!
The Venator is Ugly but not Terrible
The Imperial is Cool but Terrible
@@aryabuananurjaya2014 Not really, the Imperial is better for ship to ship combat, and would defeat a venator in a one on one fight. The Venator has its charm too though, and is good as a multipurpose carrier.
4:35 why does the star destroyer have a city in the middle
I would note that ships like the Mon Mothma seem to be their own type of Star Destroyer, though very similar in function to the Interdictor Star Destroyer (NJO: Star by Star).
Wow, just 2 resurgents could destroy an executor ssd. Now that's pod racing!
I like to call the prosecutor class star destroyers the Yamato class star destroyers
They’re escort vessels.
The most similar star destroyer to Yamato was the Conqueror.
Fun fact, most of the Imperial Star Destroyers seen in this video were actually Imperial IIs. The main differences are the barbettes (the ISD has 8 quad turbolasers while the ISD 2 has 8 octuple turbolasers) and the structure on top of the bridge. Imperial II has the bar, while the Imperial I has the massive X shaped structure seen at 1:37.
i just watched your star dreadnought video and this one and both don't have the Preator class.
That was classified as a battle cruiser.
Fact Free so when are you doing a battlecruiser video
Intrestingly you didnt mentioned Allegiance classes or Phalanx Syndic or Ascendancy classes.
And there are pictures for a Star destroyer named Chaff class from the EotH could be your CHISS class star destroyer
If you notice. The stardestoyers bridge deck between the two shield generators (balls at the top) can be seen either as one or two being another bridge deck on top of another bridge deck while some only have one.
I remember watching you so much without an account, then I remembered you and instantly came and subbed
Published 75 years after the sinking of the German Wehrmacht BattleShip Bismarck
the bismarck did not belong to the wehrmacht, as the wehrmacht were the land forces. the bismarck belonged to the kriegsmarine, the german navy.
wait there was a ship that could rip a ship out of hyperspace, like physically pull them out... jeez
And pull said ships in, leaving them vulnerable to fire from the rest of the Imperil Fleet. Yup, Interdictors are small but dangerous fuckers!
Gyarretto7 jeez overkill much? xD
Revampedharpy09 then they got destroyed by a bunch of rebels
@@Gyarretto7 yeah thats what makes them one of my favorites
VENATORS FTW!
An Imperial class would obliterate a venator
BlackDogGaming 27 The Republic crews are far superior in addition to way more fighters being able to deploy.
1 on 1, sure, but in a standard engament i'd give the win to the venator most of the time. the air superiority is too good to not factor in
+Jason Tang The Venator would be obliterated before deploying all starfighters.
+needude72 #Lancer support
did not know there were so many classes of star destroyers there a few cool ones too which I've never heard. great informal vid
Drinking game : each time he says "Star Destroyers" you take a shot.
Nice video !
To all dreadnought tzpes next!
I lost count how many times you said star destroyers.
So why not include the dreadnaught and assault ships?
Thrawn's Revenge have the missing ship Profile pictures now.
They all look cool and awesome great video.
What is the drawing at 2:29? Can I have a link to the original?
I need it too
Can you do a video on the Harrower Class?
What about it?
greatest star destroyer
+Marek Máčik Vs an ISD? Eeehhhhh. xD
0:31 what episode
Actually, the Acclamator-class was the first widely used star destroyer variant employed by the Grand Army during the clone wars. Star Destroyers actually go back thousands of years earlier if one counts any kind of visually similar vessel used by previous governments, such as the Sith Empires.
Anglomachian He's using the Anaxes classification system.
Under the Anaxes classification system the Acclamator is not a Star Destroyer.
Always love these videos. :3 Keep up the good work!
+Quarter2Doom Thank you!
What about the conqueror?
This is off subject but don't you wish the empire was still around when the yukzan vong attacked! Darth Vader vs yukzan vong with all them star destroyer! The emperor would wreck them!
the vong wouldn't of made it halfway to corsucant
I think the Yuuzhan Vong were immune to the Force
yes they were
+Richard Lew Not to death stars though. ;)
in the legends universe it is believed that Palpatine foresaw the Vong invasion in a force vision and was creating his many super weapons, to subjugate/control the universe, and fend off/destroy the Vong
How many times he said “Capital Ships”
⬇️
I was about to ask about the super star destroyer but then u explained at the end of the video so thanks :)
Fun drinking game:
Take a shot every time he says: "Star Destroyers"
I'm on the floor already!
what about the super star destroyer
forget it
XD
Your description of a star destroyer is very wrong, a star destroyer was merely a random term thrown around with no basis of any kind of measurment of actual ship class.
Many ship types recently seem to have been retconned recently claiming to be "star destroyers" yet only a few years ago would be heavy cruisers, cruisers or just plainly capital ships.
For example only in the last couple of years was the Venator or the interdictor ever called such a thing..
(also you said turbo blaster.. tsk tsk...)
Look up Anaxes War College system. They do have a classification for Star Destroyers thank you.
Hmm well i never heard dreadnaught before
halo much 5:00
No shut up.
3:16 Hate to be "that guy" but it's actually the Procursator class
thank you for using my suggestion :D appreciate it. ^-^
2:00 it looks like it has Balls, you know the kind
How to be good Star destroya
1: Be fast
2: Blitzkrieg
3: Good?
4: Win
This is my version:
1 Fast
2 Well armed
3 Easy to produce
4 Be an actual destroyer (not battleship)
I wish we would've seen some of these other Star Destroyers in the movies. Particularly the Interdictor and Gladiator classes.
Well the introdictory is in rebels
4:11, onwards. Now we're getting silly
Thanks! I would also enjoy seeing a video on Imperial dreadnoughts!
