We will look back on this period in electronic music geardom as...... THE GLUT!! So so soooo many options and cool kit to choose form and go broke by 😂
Definitely. It's an awesome time. I bought my first synth in the late 1980s - an Alpha Juno which I still use regularly. Since then I bought a couple of other synths. But in the last few years especially I've been buying loads as they're cheap as chips for quality. Even though I'm retired and disabled, it's a great time to buy.
I am in love with this truly amazing and performable monster of a proper drum synth / machine . It took about fifteen minutes and I felt right at home finally. Thank you Erica synths! It’s a keeper for sure .! 👽🙏
I love that the parameters are not all sweet spot like a lot of modern gear. I want to be able to “break” the sounds and make them do things they weren’t necessarily designed for. Still can’t afford it, but it sounds great!
does anyone else think this sounds exatcly like aphex twin in selected ambient works 87-95. thats my faborite idm album because it sound so crisp and minimalistic and tight. ill be getting this drum machine because in my sound design ibwant to replicatw that sound and this seems like the colsest tone i have ever fond. ofc u can use toturials and other things to get close to it but this drum machine feels like its her personality. sooo gooood!!!! pairing this with soma 23 amd soma the pipe and u get tue rave of a life time m i right? respond to say if u agree that it sounds like aphex twin because personally thays my first thought!
this was a very good explanation ! I´m also in love with this beast and just getting into it. this device was a missing piece in my collection and it will change my workflow in making music.
🙂 🙂 but to answer your question, it would be if you had three arms! You'd need to hold down all the steps in the row and hit the Probability buttons. Maybe laying an arm on it would do the trick!
I’d like to see the option to maybe do a shift trigger press to manually start the sequencers different times to get the effect on purpose. That would be awesome
What would be the advantage of this over an lxr-02+ zen delay? Looks good and sounds good but for 2.5k $CAD I wanna make sure Im getting something different or some kind of advantages.
loving the design, the knob per function, and the overall UX. But sadly it sounds too cold and techno for my taste. If i was a techno artist I would be saving money right now
I make techno for a living and erica synths stuff sounds really uninspiring to me. Their drum modules lacks certain sound quality that you get from machines like the Pulsar-23 or the Jomox AlphaBase and some others. And yeah you are fairly limited genre wise with this
…and you would end up with a completely different result and UX. I never understood this argument as it relates to buying gear. it’s like balking at buying a car because you could buy 10 scooters for the same price.
@@keidelt Sure the HD-01 is a lot more simple than many gear. What ever suites you I guess. I like variety, so I'd propably choose those 10 scooters over the car.
Detailed review! Interesting to see how polarizing this thing is in the comments. Generally overall it seems mostly positive save for the price. Pulsar 23 is the most common comparison, but that's got a more semi/modular vibe with the clips though. The voice comments are intriguing, interesting what some folks focus on (too each their own though!). Technically the TR-8S has loads more voices and is much more affordable - but some folks will say their Model Cycles / Circuit Tracks are all the drums they need. Heck, I could argue all of these drum machines are silly when you can just learn to play real acoustic drums; but then I'd just be a smart ass :)
I love it i am. And dont kill me now honest question. why in my head i can make same or much better things going out with a tr8s and a ms50 zoom on the 1/4th of the price? Or a used mk1 analog four with a t resonator.. I can understang how emotional this instrument will feel and how romantic is to maybe own one. Vs the crap boring plastic roland and the 0 emotion elektron mk1... But...
I'm having a clock out issue. Maybe someone could help. Here's my setup. Volca Mix as my master running at 2pps, going out to a Volca Drum at 2pps, then a Volca Keys at 2pps, then Behringer RD9 set to analog/trig. I couldn't find any info on setting a ppq for it and that is running out to a Perkons HD1 set at analog at 2ppq. I place all machines into standby mode which is basically hitting play. When i want them all to start at once from the beginning of their patterns i press play on the Volca mix and everything is running however after 1 bar/16 steps i hear the Perkons lag behind by 1 step and it stays there. Can't figure out why this is happening. Help me... 😂
I really enjoy jamming with the perkons. What compression threshold/amount settings do you use? I still not found the perfect setting. If you use 4 single voice output (to edit/delete some steps later in daw), there is no compression settings any more?

The gear of the 80s was better quality in every way, especially sound
@@indegruv Not true at all. Some things are and some aren't. It really depends on the electronics.
It's not bad is it.
@@indegruv it really wasn’t any better at all and it costed more, when you account for inflation.

Working a bunch of overtime just to buy this in December. Well worth it.
Sounds very organic and warm. Love it.

Thanks for putting it through its paces. Good review.
Been waiting for this review ever since I heard you were reviewing it Matt. Cant wait to hear what it can do.
Hope you enjoyed it!
You could make an entire video game soundtrack including the sound effects with that one drum machine.
Great review Matt🙂
Cheers Inky!
Mine is arriving tomorrow!

This thing looks so fun!!!💣💣💣
Had loads of fun with this
Love the look and sound knob per function, just not the price
Its so much fun to use
@@matthsmatthsmatths glad you like how’s the build quality looks solid
and it needs at least 3+ more voices tracks to compete with Rytm that has more features at less cost.
Seems pretty good for Techno right? Definitely an interesting drum machine.
2:11 doesn't look like a built-in power supply to me?
Trent Reznor needs one of these. This is like Nine Inch Nails in a box.
Dfam does similar things sonically. But this kinda next level control wise
@@DoctorRevers So true! DFAM also has a very NIN sound to it as well.
The techno machine ❤❤❤
I just don't understand why they left out a MIDI Thru,, it has enough space, and its expensive enough..
Best review I've seen so far! Is it possible to set odds or probability for all steps in a row at once?

I think it could open a new dimension ;-)

I intend to do exactly that 🕺
I like how deep you go in the menu... Deeper still please
My best friend has one. Yes its badass.
So a few months on, would you or did you buy one? Am very tempted!

Workflow, connectivity, almost knob per function, analog filter, and different sound.
I wonder how much more it would cost to get a pink one
Yeah - I quite like the look of those!
or camo green or flame orange?
this thing makes me want to bosh a load of mdma and dance my ass off lol
The kick always sounds out of place with the demos I've seen - too heavy and just the wrong sound for the other voices.
Ok mate.
For some reason there's no HD for this video, 360p looks kinda terrible.
It's odd, UA-cam seems to arbitrarily choose to not supply the HD version on longer videos until some time after it has been posted
does it do a fill ?

yep, in other words it sucks.

I am sure it can do any genre, it just hasn’t been played with anything but techno🤣
@@christopherpederson1021 yeah true - perhaps I could have done more styles. But I did at least get into the drone kind of world 🙂

Thanks to this current economic climate, I can only afford Beh gear. Nice to watch this though!
How it compares it with the Alpha Base?
it doesnt.
@@mollyoko What means that? Is the Perkons better as the Alpha Base or not?

straight from quoth
is there an ukrainian flag in the sonicstate logo? I miss some runes.
how much?!?! 🤑

Karplus
no sound....
Sounds hilariously outdated. Zero care given to the actual sound synthesis. Snare is absolutely comical.
Ha ha ha, true. It reminded me Waldorf Attack VST plugin (I think it's free). At least on hardware side of things they did a nice job.
HECK NO to the Techno.....zzzzzzzz
Yea, it’s getting so boring now.
Just what the world needs…another nonsense box that sounds the same as everything else.
but nonsense boxes are so much fun
the sound are so awful... what a shame... and it is expensive as hell...
i love it
The sounds are so fantastic... what a great machine... and also affordable...
Only Up Tempo Beats. Bad demo.
I wonder how this compares to a mehringer bcr32 controlling a multi-timbral synth, drum module or VST.
I'd love the same demo without alll the drive knobs pushed to the max as it would give a better idea of how voices sound.
1700 bucks for fewer voices than the LXR02? That seems like a rather punishing no-menudive premium.

This machine sounds much better at a lower bpm. It has a lot of grit and warm fuzz to the overall tambre. It gets mushy at tweeter speed.
Wow that drone was wiiiiild. I'd love to see this paired up with Oto Machines.
machinedrum still reigns supreme. nothing has topped it since.
Id love to play with a machine drum for sure!
Elektron Rytm and Jomox Alphase comes close to MachineDrum and better features easier to use.

You should consider adding chapters, like to jump to parameter automation, lfo, etc
There should be ? Will check
