    Finally someone properly putting this thing through the paces.
    By that I mean putting it in a more of a mix, playing with it to make music first and foremost.
    Nothing wrong with the NOISE BOX GO BOOM beats, or more experimental stuff out there, I often dig that too, but this was the video I was searching for.
    Great sounding jams and nicely produced as usual - thanks.

    I heard Perkons many times on big system, first time even before it was released. Kodek and Leo Novuss are absolute monsters playing it. With couple FX pedals you can basically play a whole set on Perkons. And boyyy it sounds good live. Thick and punchy.

      It's really not, the TR-909 was released in 1983 at an MSRP of $1195 which is $3,648 in today's dollars. Full-size, full-feature, high-quality machines have come DOWN in price over the years, but the availability of Volcas and Behringer clones has skewed peoples' expectations of cost. Sure you can get a TR8S for $600-700 but look at the difference in build quality, the size of the company, etc. The sheer number of tact switches and high-quality knobs and pots on the Perkons drives the manufacturing costs way up plus metal case vs plastic, smaller company, etc.

    • @chrisdavies9143
      @chrisdavies9143 Рік тому

      @CT-ho6si I'm not suggesting the price isn't merited but it nevertheless is quite a bit more than I'd spend on a drum machine and, against the economic backdrop, it's definitely eye-watering for me personally

So while this one isn’t for me I really appreciate what Erica is doing here to advance the world of drum machines.

    I love this and want this. There's so much scope for constantly evolving rhythmscapes. I definitely appreciated the sounds more when the arty shots of your gear accompanied them at 16:27 in the same way that Max Cooper's music is enhanced by his collaborators' trippy visuals.
    Is there a reason why you say "perimeter" instead of "parameter?" It bugs me for no reason. Perhaps I'm ignorant of a different meaning. My jam-mate used to say "rift" instead of "riff" and that used to bug me in the same way; only in a minor way, mind you.

      It kind of reminds me of the pen-pin merger, but for schwas. Not sure if that has a name or if it's already covered by that merger. (The pa- in parameter is a schwa but the -ra- is definitely not, but I think the tongue is being led by the first vowel just because "pe-ra" is a bigger distance for the tongue to jump than "pe-ri"?)

    I wish each voice could have a broadcast-style delay on its path to the mix, with a live out and cue functionality. I don't play live, so maybe there's a trick to do this (insert cables?) without too much mess...being able to tweak something and have a quick undo option would lead to much more creativity in live situations because there'd be less risk of strange ass sounds coming into the mix, like unexpectedly resonant snare farts.

    Assuming you turned on some sort of Pitch Lfo or modifier around 3.44? That unexplained switch up will def confuse any newbie :0)

    Controversial opinion: I'm yet to hear sounds out of this unit that I find particularly impressive (having watched multiple reviews/demos with decent headphones). For the money I wonder if maybe you'd be better off with something like a Korg SQ-64 sequencer, and a tailored selection of Eurorack drum modules?

    There's a cafeteria-style restaurant around here named Perkins. Every time I hear the name of this drum machine, my mind goes to that.
    Edit: Actually, you mentioned that right as I was typing this. lol

    Others dissect the machine in their videos, you actually showed a few comprehensive use-cases along other gear which is great. Really nice hardware, but boy, the price...
