Well, Alphaville take the top prize there, and China Crisis would be in a top 5 too, but yes, I agreed Dream Academy would be in there, alongside Cock Robin, and likely Voice Of The Beehive and Shakespears Sister too.
@Klaas Vos How are they underrated? They got huge support all through the 80s and the fucking US even bothered to care for most of the decade. It's generally lone singers (mostly female) like Kim Wilde, Sandra (who's German, there's your reason for ignoring her right there),Kirsty MacColl, Natasha England who are hugely underrated. Nope, not Tears For Fears. Alphaville are German-that kills them dead on prejudice and bigotry alone, despite the fact they've a catalogue to outdo A-ha and almost rival Duran Duran.
@@kyachdistent1301 alphaville is probably one of my favorite bands. My favorite song by them is big in japan though the first one I heard was forever young which got me interested in the first place.
@@Yodiak That's so great to hear. I've got all the albums I know they've done (plus all their 80s B-sides which are brill) and I have Marian Gold's 2 solo albums too, which I count as Alphaville albums, the same way I do with Morten Harket's best solo album (from 2012) counting it as an A-ha album. I have at least 2 fav songs from each Alphaville album (a 1st and 2nd) or 3 or 4 from the best albums as I feel most decent acts do so many good and great songs that I can't have an overall fav. Nonetheless if I was asked, I'd chalk up several Alphaville song standouts to induct the novice with-among these would be: 'Forever Young', 'Summer In Berlin', 'Jerusalem', 'Universal Daddy', 'Next Generation', 'Romeos', 'Sister Sun', 'Fools', 'Euphoria', 'Say It Ain't So Joe', 'Heart Of The Flower', 'One Step Behind You', 'Danger In Your Paradise', 'Spirit Of The Age', 'Flame', 'Soul Messiah', 'Call Me', 'Handful Of Darkness', 'Point Of Know Return', 'Criminal Girl', 'Phantoms' and 'Heartbreak City'. Blimey, that's probably too much! Oh well!

I bought the cassette tape and we blasted it on my 8 speaker-boombox. My little brother and i would sing ALL the songs. We traveled back to the sixties and, both of us REALLY believed DREAM ACADEMY be AROUND for a LONG TIME! The music business REALLY sucks. It was REALLY good to me, but i literally turned down record companies & producers & recorded my own music in small professional studios & performed in the Village & Clubs all over NYC, THE Radio. I developed a sense who & what to turn down.
The Black Knight heheh! I’ll tell her you said that bro. I’ll see her and Gilbert (the keyboard player) next Thursday in London. Gil’s and old friend and band mate of mine. But I’ll for sure show Kate your message :)

Because you were an idiot and it's nothing to laugh at. Cheesy shit like Bon Jovi people should be embarrassed to look back on, never mind still like now. You missed this girl cos (a) You're American, otherwise you missed her cos (a) you're terrible music taste couldn't/wouldn't bend to include something like this (b) she's not the lead singer so why would you notice her and (c) if they're not overly commerical and selling enough untis to ensure we're stuck them forever, why would you notice anyway and (d) no internet to make it easier for the so-called underdog that would normally miss a mass audience and (e) madonna the vile clearly, cos without this omnipresent plague-bitch being on the planet, NO OTHER WOMAN allowed to exist in the 80s unless she's critqued royalty up to the eyeballs. Hope that helps, but I'm sure no the answer anyway. And leave those earthworms alone, unless you convince them to bury into slagdonna's eyes, or your ears every time you threaten to put something like bon jovi, bros or beastie boys on.

Thinking back to the eighties, I find that Miss Kate here beats all the women that were considered the most beautiful and elegant.......man o man what a gorgeous woman.......
Can't imagine they would be, not at the expense of powerful corporations that STILL hold power over all the best. Remember, it's only cuntdonna and all the wankers that followed that materialistic bitch x infinity squared that rake in money for the pointless shit. The biz is utterly different for the turds and losers to how it is for the talent and the superlative.
I love that they were embracing diversity many years before their time, but now, 30 years after first hearing their utopian sound, I feel that we’ve made very little progress
Beautiful song. Criminal-it's they who should be charting with all their singles, not pap like Wham and the awful Spandau Ballet and all that PWL crap. Even worse, I'm sure this is one of several singles not even included on their long awaited singles compilation. Bloody typical, labels always do this to screw with the record buyer, the fuckers, I think the even more ignored Love And Money's retrospective is even worse-a dozen singles left off in favour of album stuff Why even bother making singles. This beautiful music is medicine for tough times.
Or electricity for mediocre times and mediocre music, or alternatively gold-dust for turd-ridden music biz.
Get me a Dolerean. I'm off to the 80s and staying there. This current decade are eating themselves alive. Band and song is ❤️💯
I wanna go with you
Kate St. John is just adorable in this video. Good song, too.
why was this not a hit!?!
Loved this band, loved this song and many others. It's always pure pleasure to hear them. Thanks for the memories. God bless / Namaste.
Love them. Ome of the best British bands.
Loved this record. So soulful and melodic.
Kate St. John is so damn pretty! This is one of my favorites from The Dream Academy!
Only reason I watched it.
Loved by John Hughes and David Gilmour
Love this song and it is criminally overlooked...
Wished they had released "Humdrum" as a single.
It's has such a nostalgic soundtrack feel to it. 💕
This is the first time I really listened to Dream Academy, I only knew about life in a northern town , this is really nice , reminds me of Moody Blues

I would walk through a lions den with slabs of steak tied to my chest to get into the arms of Kate St John

Jeebus, do I feel old hearing this again. (also, happy)

Beautiful song.
I dream with your academy good to see you there, leading life
Beautiful.
I love those days

Yes she is beautiful and so talented. And Nick is smokin' hot too!
I belive that the blond girl is Sam Brown singing in the back ground

We've got a whole lot of magic, don't let it slip away

You can fall down, you can fall for the line
You can feel it, baby give me one more time

But you never learn now you learn to let it go
Fall down trying and you learn the lesson of love
You can fall, fall down trying
Trying to learn the lesson of love
Hold on, listen to me when I say
Time is an illusion but it just won't fade away
We can walk out, learn it all
But we never go easy and you know that it should fall
Feeling all had to run away
But you fall down alone it's a long distance train
Moving out from the city of love
To the valley of reason where you just don't get enough
Fall down now and you learn the lesson of love
Fall, fall, fall, down, down, down
And you learn the lesson of love
Don't walk out listen to me when I say
We've got a whole lot of magic, don't let it slip away
Now there's tears in your eyes on the pages of the book
And it took me down trying just to take a second look
Fall down trying and you learn the lesson of love
If you're rich or poor,
If you're down by law
You can learn the lesson of love
You came all the way in a fragile state
Just to learn the lesson of love
If you're a self made liar if your heart's on fire
You can learn the lesson of love.

I’ve never really put in more time to listening and really get connected with D.A.’s music until now and I am not regretting it one single bit!
