Thank you TOR. Thank you Harriet. Thank you Brandon. Thank you Team Jordan. Thank you, most of all, Jim a.k.a. Robert, RJ, The Creator, and an entire list of other names you have. I'm sad to say that I'll never be able to tell him just how much this series has meant to me over these last 20 years.
Whenever a new book came out, I would reread from the beginning of the series to refamiliarize myself with the storyline (and to meet up with old friends, for that is what the characters became). I have read the series 14 times, and will reread it 14 more I'm sure.
Why do people always say this? Being with a woman is not a necessity to live. To live you need oxygen, food, water, shelter, and clothing. I have been single for 10 years and I'm very happy about that. I can deal with women on my own time and my choosing; I have all my money and I absolutely will not date a woman who can't support herself; I have my own home and can't be kicked out of it due to an argument; I have more peace of mind; and can come and go as I please without having to explain myself to anyone. In closing, not every guy's life is focused on being with a woman because there are FAR more important things to worry about in life than getting laid.
I started reading the wheel of time sometime during the first half of last year. I just finished "A Memory of Light" 2 days ago. I loved the series. I consider myself extremely lucky that I didn't have to wait for any of the books to come out before I could read them. AMoL came out when I was still on book 8
I can't decide if i should read it as fast as i can, or try to space it out... Whatever happens this has been by far the greatest story I have ever experienced. Matt's the coolest(just say'n)
The wait for rhe next publication reminds me of waiting for the next Harry Potter book. The anticipation, the speculation as to what was to come was sheer, shared enjoyment.
i started a lil before lord of chaos and read like a mad man for those 6 books and got in line for the rest . love it. doing my second read now and in book 7 again.
Just finished the series and while the start was a slowburn it really grew on me around 4-5 book and now its definetly in my favorites, the scale of the story and characters is insane.
Great video! I remember first reading the early volumes of the series when I was 12... now I'm 28 haha. It's been such a huge part of my life, it will be very meaningful to finally read the conclusion of the series.
I remember starting the series after i graduated from school and i wanted something to read during the long break. I read the series in one continuous stretch up to Towers of Midnight. The characters in this book had become, and still are, an important part of my life. Even if i forget exactly what occurred in the book, I doubt that I'll ever forget the characters.
i think you're right, some of the question will remain unanswered, but we will definitely get some kind of permanent closure for the problem with the Dark One.
Got my book signed in Birmingham, Al. (as well as Mistborn). Was pretty sad when they pointed out that it was the last signing stop, so it was going to be the last time the opening was read aloud by Harriet. :(
I like Bs's comment on attention to detail. One of the best and most infuriating parts of RJ's writing in my opinion. Also the comment about waiting and discussing. Dragonmount ftw!
for many years i my granny gave me the first part in the THE EYE OF THE WORLD [swe v. farornas väg] but i at that time i did not red it...sadly, and i sold it but i did forsame reason i missed it in my book shelf. that was when i was young in 1995. now 2018 i realized i did a mistake to sell it. Robert jordan still rocks my fantasy world. when my friends read the fallowship Of The Ring, i go back and read The Wheel Of Time. Thanks Jordan for a very good written story. would also be nice to get in touch other WOT readers for same hang and subject talk about WoT.
I'm not sure.. I honestly don't want the series to end, as I've always had the "next book" to look forward to.. but at the same time it causes excitement that staggers me to my foundations.. It will be by far the most bittersweet thing I think I'll have of done, and I'm sure there will be many, many tears shed during that final book.
I thought the whole series took place in just over 2 year's, I thought it was something like 26 months from The Eye of the World to A Memory of Light in the narrative. 1:50
Reading Wheel of Time for the first time over the past few months. I've had to pace myself considerably so I don't read the books too fast for AMOL's release. Now, in this last month, I just finished COD. Three books plus a prequel should be enough for one month.
@Erik Ödlund I did end up finishing it, I mean how could I not, I felt a little vindicated when may had to end up leading the armies after all, not giving mat credit for being a genius on the battlefield Was the lights biggest mistake but it did all come together, although the end was abrupt I would have like a little more closure with a few of the fractions but in all it was amazing
I had to go fetch the book and open page 180. Let me tell you this. FINISH IT. You will not regret doing that. This is the only book I have ever read that made me cry several times. And I am not normally an emotional person either.
Lucky cos we had to wait?!! I had a near heart attack when he died before completing the series!! (may he rest in peace!) This ending better blow my mind or I will hate u 4 d rest of my natural life! No pressure! And get someone 2 make a friggin series out of it already!!! HBO doin a great job wit GoT I'd like to say I could take my time and read this last book at a leisurely pace, enjoying every sentence. But knowing me I'll be all over this book like a hungry fat kid over the last cupcake
Nice video. I have 11,835 pages to go :) WOT really is quite something. Will there be 13 down-votes ? Which 6 of the Forsaken have voted ? Demandred, presumably...
Ha, maybe it came across that way. I actually like the series and have spent the last few months doing a massive recap of it on my website. I'm also a member of Dragonmount and formerly Wotmania. I just think the series's stunning success speaks for itself and the artificial inflation in the video was a little bit unnecessary.
Well, then watch the movies :D I enjoy them aswell, its fun to just sit down and relax while watching the movies, but sometimes i get into the mood for reading. If u dont, well then just watch more movies :D
I started reading in 2004. I read the first 8 books (I think 8...) in a row. The story dragged at times, but that was OK. What annoyed me to no end was his over detailed writing of someone's dress or their horse or someting not necessary. I estimate 1/3 of every book could be cut out. This would have made a perfect 10 book series.
I want the big questions answered, I want the narrative brought to a solid and satisfying close. But I don't think all the questions will be answered. And, maybe they should not be. Isn't it better to think that the story continues on, that those dangling threads are the lives that continue on past the final page, and into the Forth Age? At least, that's my feeling on it.
I love LotR and WoT. (Ignore username, I do also love WoT.) So sad that I only recently discovered EotW. Only on LoC. :/ Anyway I grimace at the idea of TV show/film series. 14 films or 14 seasons is just nonsense. Then again on IMDb they do say it is being made to movies though...
I tend to agree, but I think closer to 1/2 could have been omitted. After book 5, politics became a bit too detailed. And I think the most distracting thing present in all of the sequels is the continual and repeated re-telling of the events that came before. As if RJ intended each book to stand on its own, when it would have been much more concise to assume the reader had read the previous books. (I had to paraphrase my comment to fit it here, ironically.) I enjoyed WOT, but not the waiting.
I like the Wheel of Time. But there's a hell of a lot of hyperbole flying around this video. "Tons of stuff happens on every page!" Apart from the entirety of Crossroads of Twilight and about half of Path of Daggers, Winter's Heart and Knife of Dreams, where characters just sit around and talk about the plot rather than get on with business. "No other fantasy series has had merchandising and costumes!" Apart from Tolkien, A Song of Ice and Fire and Discworld, for three.
books will always be superior to movies, why? be couse no matter how good an actor is he cant live up to how our minds prefere the characters we make out from text and nor can a movie be as personal as a book where you have to imagine the world for yourself. the lord of the rings movies were great but the books will always be better. and i personally doubt the wheel of time can be made into a movie, its even better written then lord of the rings.
Well, if u dont like reading aswell as enjoying movies then why reply to my comments .... From my perspective.. with me liking both those things, most books are better than the movies made out of them, but maybe for u movies are better. Everyone cant agree :P
you can't compare Lord of the Rings to the Wheel of Time! the rings were boring to read, thank Jackson for putting it to film... but to make movies for the Wheel of Time? I don't think its even remotely possible. Its epic on a scale that can only come close by the Sword of Truth Series... which of course should not be confused with the Legend of the Seeker TV series... that was butchered all to hell in a hand basket.
I think sanderson did an admirable job with the first two books. i'm 150 pages into a memory of light and am disgusted with the butchering of the story so far. horrible writing skills, particularly the dialogue.
Well I got to page 180 and decided the series ended for me there. To bad, was really looking forward to this book, like for 15 years. But Elayne got control of the war for the last battle and no matt? Idk if it was Jordan, Sanderson, or Jordans idiot wife but whoever made that call made me just give up on the whole thing, awful.
Yes, books 8-12 are tedious, practically going no where, and there are about 20 annoying female characters. None of that stops The Wheel of Time from being the second greatest fantasy epic ever written.
Personally I think Jordan was piss poor and just another author who is/or was continually rehashing the same tedious clichés, completely unchanged for more than half a century after LOTR. The hero is an orphan who looks different, he gets his father's magic sword or something, he goes on a quest with an old, wily mentor, gets attacked by evil (dark-skinned) mongoloids from the mysterious East, meets the princess by accident, becomes embroiled in an ancient prophecy, discovers a magic 'force' which controls fate (and the plot), &c., &c. Stop me if you've heard this one before. A lot of authors have been churning this stuff out for decades now and he is probably the worst; well his writing skills are certainly the worst. I will give him three stars for some originality surrounding the one power etc; he exchanges supernatural magical powers with a natural super powers. If you like the clichéd theme of epic battles of against unimaginable evil then there are far better authors; (you know authors that have basic writing skills). You see a well written novel takes the shape of a quest; a linearly horizontal progression through narrative time, Jordan explodes that linearity in a bewildering near-dimensionless knot or tangle of non-progression, utterly stupid! It is all terribly written. I don’t just mean the style, although the style is awful. I mean the whole kit and caboodle: the overall structure, and the narrative, the pacing and focalisation, the characterisation, the dialogue, the tone. All of it. The writing is bad from the get-go. I would suggest that people should read someone like Raymond Feist; yes it still that same clichéd theme of mostly young people developing into adults and honing their skills against an unimaginable evil; but Feist understands grammar whereas Jordan hasn’t a Scooby. The fact is that Jordan did little in the way of medieval historical, geological, biological research (A horse can only maintain a gallop for a mile, perhaps three max) (No one could walk naked through a snowstorm) and his understanding of human social interaction is non-existent (his female characters are so bad that it’s hard to believe he ever met a women). The other glaring omission is the lack of an editor, his wife did the editing, she must been as stupid as he was. Feist on the other hand has researched significantly and has a top notch editorial team. Do yourself a favour and read the’ Magician’ by Feist and see the difference. Eloquently written and researched thoroughly so that the reader can immerse themselves in the events; he knows about medieval type worlds, their fighting techniques and battle/warfare strategy, their life style, farming techniques etc. Jordan was just lazy and ignorant; it shows.
It must be difficult when you are so inadequate with grammar and language; your author, that you so admire, gets shredded and you’re unable formulate an adequate response. Must be annoying especially when either you know it’s true or perhaps the “You see a well written novel takes the shape of a quest; a linearly horizontal progression through narrative time,” you simply didn’t understand.
My response was most adequate, since you have shredded nothing little troll :) By the way, there is a grammar mistake in your response. Have fun trying to figure out where!
"Jordan was piss poor" That's even too good a description; honestly you would struggle to think of another series of books - outside of the supermarket romance section possibly - in which women are so ridiculously misrepresented. The amount of time spent brushing hair, arranging clothing (real and imagined), gossiping, glaring really hard, mooning over some future husband and blushing at the merest whiff of sexual impropriety would be tiresome in a book about boarding-school 'gals' having pillow-fights and getting up to high-jinks in the rec. In a series purportedly about the epic battle against unimaginable evil; well his many fans can forget about the Hugo Awards because eventually he overload’s the series with so much of this kind of pointless text that all he creates in the end is a supernatural ‘mills and boon’. Jordan has a variation of “feminism” which is actually more damaging than the normal pseudo-feminism in fantasy, you know the kind that says a princess wearing a gown is suffering as much as someone being beaten or raped. Jordan includes female characters in prominent roles and so to many they’re then feminist; unfortunately with Jordan they frequently also get into situations where they are 'naked or half-naked'. Egwene; have you ever counted how many times she was spanked after she was captured in the white tower’ who exactly was Jordan catering for here? Or what about Faile and Alliandre who are beaten and made to walk 'naked' through the snow for hours because of the sadistic Sevanna; maybe he should have tried walking naked through a snow storm to see if It’s at all plausible, hmm what else oh yes Moiraine and Aviendha naked again in the trip to the Rhuidean but men are all clothed, then there is Aviendha running naked through the snow only to eventually be conveniently shagged by Rand, for fuck sake. And it continues "Only Alliandre was there, lying face down on her blankets in her collar with a damp cloth dipped in an herbal infusion over her bruised bottom." If there's one thing Jordan likes more than attractive women being spanked on their bare arses, it's attractive women learning to love such abusive treatment. The word for this is: cre-e-epy. Jordan's dismaying fixation on people's "bottoms" and legs and what is worn thereon and thereover is epic, you lose count of is the number of times a woman rides a horse wearing a skirt, and either a) not caring about how much leg they're exposing or b) utterly mortified about same. (If female characters aren't on horseback, then they're anxiously/worriedly/nervously smoothing their skirts. The two emotional states most prevalent in the series are humiliation and anxiety and everyone, men included, in this series has trouble sitting down at some point. Paddled, strapped, slippered (I don’t know if I’ve ever heard that used as a verb before, but it computes), pinched or beaten with the Power, or just plain old-fashioned smacked on the “bottom” … everyone, or pretty damn near, the Dragon Reborn or Amyrlin Seat or groom or scullery maid, it doesn’t matter - someone is bound to come along who will give you a smack (or twenty) on the bum. Jordan was a total 'douchebag' of an author, but all these problems he had, although significant, could have been rectified if he had a professional editorial team like most major authors have; what was Jordan's editorial team? his stupid wife who read the scripts and said its all wonderful dear.
Wheel of Time changed my life. Thank You, Robert Jordan.

By far tge best series I have ever read. Definetally changed my life.
This series changed my life. The most amazing thing ever!!!!!!
I'm on Chapter 2 of The Eye of the World and I already think this is the greatest thing since The Lord of the Rings.
I can't decide if i should read it as fast as i can, or try to space it out... Whatever happens this has been by far the greatest story I have ever experienced.
Matt's the coolest(just say'n)
Chills, tears. Wow. So excited!
The wait for rhe next publication reminds me of waiting for the next Harry Potter book. The anticipation, the speculation as to what was to come was sheer, shared enjoyment.
Thank you. Thank you Robert Jordan
Thank you for getting it completed Harriet/Tor
Thank you, for this wonderful epic saga. I'm so glad I started this series and looking forward to the closing chapter.
i started a lil before lord of chaos and read like a mad man for those 6 books and got in line for the rest . love it. doing my second read now and in book 7 again.
Who the heck are the idiots who disliked? What a pair of disrespectful brats! This was so touching and nice, thank you so much for this!
Just finished the series and while the start was a slowburn it really grew on me around 4-5 book and now its definetly in my favorites, the scale of the story and characters is insane.

very happy and yet very sad for it to end
cant wait! been waiting for 10 years
I almost don't know how to feel about this all wrapping up.
i think you're right, some of the question will remain unanswered, but we will definitely get some kind of permanent closure for the problem with the Dark One.
Oh my, I'm actually tearing up.
Any book that can make a character that is the embodiment of myself (Mat...) has to be good. Love this shit.
Got my book signed in Birmingham, Al. (as well as Mistborn). Was pretty sad when they pointed out that it was the last signing stop, so it was going to be the last time the opening was read aloud by Harriet. :(
It's going to exciting and also crushing heartache on January the 8th. We finally get the end, but, then there is no yearly reread. Ever.
I like Bs's comment on attention to detail. One of the best and most infuriating parts of RJ's writing in my opinion. Also the comment about waiting and discussing. Dragonmount ftw!

Can't wait!
Totally agree with you there.
This last month is going to be incredibly long
Reading Wheel of Time for the first time over the past few months. I've had to pace myself considerably so I don't read the books too fast for AMOL's release. Now, in this last month, I just finished COD. Three books plus a prequel should be enough for one month.
At least for this age! lol. But, yes, closure on the Last Battle, the big story arcs, etc will almost certainly be provided. And I can not wait!
I can't wait for the end, though it will pain me so, the wheel weaves as the wheel wills.
Video won't load darn it!
I thought Patrick Rothfuss hadn't read the Wheel of Time? He said something to that extent when someone compared the Adem to the Aiel.
In an age long past, in an age yet to come, maybe we can read it anew. :}
Keep it turning.
I don't believe he actually spoke about anything in the story in particular but was acknowledging things like Robert Jordon's influence on the genre.
No plot spoils here...just celebrating the series and its impact. Enjoy!
Is it too early to start camping outside of the book store?
I had to go fetch the book and open page 180. Let me tell you this. FINISH IT. You will not regret doing that. This is the only book I have ever read that made me cry several times. And I am not normally an emotional person either.
i cant wait :D

@nakenmil Guess you're right, he's from New Jersey.
~Let the Dragon ride again on the winds of time!~
Me too.
Couldn't fit it into one book?
@nerdforge Did you brrak something?
"He didn't write short" :)
Nice video. I have 11,835 pages to go :) WOT really is quite something. Will there be 13 down-votes ? Which 6 of the Forsaken have voted ? Demandred, presumably...
"WOT really is quite something" Yeah a zillion words that say so little.

Don't worry. The wheel will turn again.
Well, then watch the movies :D I enjoy them aswell, its fun to just sit down and relax while watching the movies, but sometimes i get into the mood for reading. If u dont, well then just watch more movies :D
6 dislikes...the Dark One made 6 accounts and disliked this! :O

corona73 I believe four of the books could be cut. Nyneave pulling her braid reads like a 1000 pages alone.
can someone let me know how spoiler-y this is? I want to start the series but I don't want it ruined by this vid...
Amazing series, provided one has the attention span required.
I want the big questions answered, I want the narrative brought to a solid and satisfying close. But I don't think all the questions will be answered. And, maybe they should not be. Isn't it better to think that the story continues on, that those dangling threads are the lives that continue on past the final page, and into the Forth Age? At least, that's my feeling on it.
it could be done as a high budget hbo series. 20 episodes a year for about 5 or 6 years would do it
nathenism Until you remember what HBO did to the final season of a Game of Thrones.
"There's a whole lot going on in any page in the series" I love the books, but that's so not true.
Pretty sure G.R.R.Martin is an American. Although, to be fair, the ASoIaF series was started after tWoT.
If they never make a movie based on the series, for the love of The Creator, make a movie about the story behind these books.
They made a TV series of “The Wheel of Time”
Im not saying that the films are fucked up, just that in comparison to the books they are :D
And also.. The mayan calendar is shaped like a wheel. Coincidence? I think not...
Major spoilers for anyone who hasn't read the first book. But if so, where have you been? :)
It says no other fantasy series written in North America. Your examples are all written by English authors.
I tend to agree, but I think closer to 1/2 could have been omitted. After book 5, politics became a bit too detailed. And I think the most distracting thing present in all of the sequels is the continual and repeated re-telling of the events that came before. "No other fantasy series has had merchandising and costumes!"
Apart from Tolkien, A Song of Ice and Fire and Discworld, for three.
Obviously the mayan calendar foresaw the end of the world in the final book of the Wheel of Time, not the end of the real world. :)
@blindbrailleable wow phone, g'damn fucking typos... Mat* liked* factions *

Good books, but the man can't write worth a damn. The prose is terrible.

Most bloated story every written.
Yes, books 8-12 are tedious, practically going no where, and there are about 20 annoying female characters. None of that stops The Wheel of Time from being the second greatest fantasy epic ever written.
The Gathering Storm is hardly Tedious. It drives the story forward rather a lot. I won't say what happens due to spoilers.
8, 9, and 11, in my opinion are slower but not too bad. 10 is the only one I find completely awful and borderline skippable.
Personally I think Jordan was piss poor and just another author who is/or was continually rehashing the same tedious clichés, completely unchanged for more than half a century after LOTR.
Oh, you poor little man :)
My response was most adequate, since you have shredded nothing little troll :)
By the way, there is a grammar mistake in your response.
The issue isn't Jordan. It is you. Reading one paragraph from you makes that GLARINGLY obvious.
Damn.. I want WoT hardback in every language it was published in!
