I thought I would remodel.. the more I got Into the old house the more I found wrong.. then I found out it was a cabin from the 40’s that had been added onto several times…. I wound up tearing it down and only using the foundation from the old house.. two years after starting the framing I finally got it done. working on it nights and weekends drove me nuts. It is a good test of a relationship too. But hey we got room for kids now haha.

Life in a remodel is insane too but yet somehow we are all ok with it for too long to abandon ship mid-stream too, 😢😂😢😂

We owned a resort, the people that purchased it from up decided to renovate one of the original buildings from 1894. They ended sinking more money into that when they were finished than the entire resort was worth when they bought it. But it did look amazing.
The roof had to be completely redone, including the planks and rafters. There was no foundation, it was built on blocks of wood, so a more stable foundation had to be installed. Because it was so close to the ground the floors in some parts had to be replaced. The back was a lean-to and not up to code for entry ways. The electrical was the original cotton loom wiring. While it had modern plumbing, there was still a spot where the pump came up through the floor.
The original tub was still there, a cast iron claw foot. The original sink was there when we bought it, it too was cast iron. Oh and they had to get the raccoons out the ceiling and the skunks out from under the building. They wanted to reuse the old septic, but steel septic tanks were no longer code, and likewise they had to replace the Terra cotta sewer lines.
That said they did it. They essentially reused the original building. While it looks new, it stands as a testament to one of the local engineers.

The accuracy. and why we went from "just needs a little paint" to a full house gut. also losing things is REAL

Omgosh!! Measurements with your arm length when you've lost your tape measure! Classic! I've done this! Lol

Best thing in the world is to have a twin! When she's at the hardware store, and I'm still at home trying to measure things while talking to her over the phone, we use our fingers, hands, and arm lengths to measure things because we're the same. 😁

100% of about 67% of that directly applies to my life. 90% of about 33% is almost exactly what has happened in my life.

Depends on how skilled you are. My husband took a course and got certified in gas to run lines. He has replaced out electric stove with gas, run a gas pool heater, heated his garage, that he built, installed a home generator, done all our electric upgrading and plumbing. He's super skilled. The downside to not hiring out is it takes much longer when you have to work around a full time job.

Why does every guy think the wives should know where their tools are. And why do they always need a beer

If you dont have a beer youre not qualified to use power tools, and when youre drinking, sometimes you can misplace stuff, quite the relationship

This inspires me to do a parade based on homeowners who hired the professionals, including the contractors, plumbers, electricians, tilers, designers, etc. believe you me - it is just as hard! It’s a different set of stress and problems - minus $50,000 -$ 1,000,000 from your bank account after paying them.
