I was 21 and working late with buddy in a kitchen. We thought the building was empty after the banquet, but Judy Collins was staying in the guest suite. We didn't know, and we were singing at the tops of our lungs. She came down to check out what was going on. We sang for her, she sang for us, we talked. She treated us peasants so well. Classy woman. The love of singing united three us for half an hour.
Meanwhile the next morning . . . Manager: "Hey, you guys didn't get things cleaned up very well last night." Cooks: "Sorry, we started jamming with Judy Collins and I guess we got distracted." Manager: "Well, OK, I'm going to let it slide this time . . ."
@@markburnham7512 His guitar playing was only one part of his total package IMO. His ability to write, sing, produce, and deliver his music in his style was what I really liked. Photographed Judy in Denver for an article in the Denver Post (she is from Denver and at the time, still had a house there). The article was published in 1972. I had the opportunity to photograph her again a few years ago and give her some prints of the session in 1972. I believe she was happy to have them.
They remind me of Stevie Nicks and Linsey Buckingham. Truth is once you are in a long-term relationship in love and it falls apart, you never really let -go completely. That person is always a part of your life, you cannot just erase them. Been there done that.
National treasures, both of them. Kinda tough to see them so old - her horrible wig, him slurring his words. But that's also the beauty of music - especially theirs - transcending time and old age.
This was fun 50 years later that's great of course the flowers the Martin guitar and the song was not going to get her back but he never lost her actually thanks from an old song writer Boston Joe in Sweden
I did not see “carry-on” mentioned in any of these comments! I am shocked. I believe “carry-on” is one of their top three songs along with wooden ships and Suite:Judy blue eyes.
Like many old women - and men - she’s self-conscious about age-related hair loss. Also, like many men who wear obvious toupees, she overcompensates. She should tell Stills about his speaking voice and he should tell her about her too big wig.
@@63artemisia63 Stephen Stills has congenital hearing loss with no hearing in one ear and only 75% in the other one, which accounts for his speaking voice.
Let's check you out at 80, OK? He was diagnosed with congenital progressive hearing loss at age NINE - everything he wrong, sang and played was dealing with that. He's now virtually 100% and it's not correctible by hearing aids and in case you are unaware, you need to hear in order to speak effectively. I'm just glad he's still around. He's a bluesman and has seen a lot and lived a lot. Grateful for him.
If you really wanna see how cool Neil is, look for the interview where they show him at home playing with his wheelchair-bound special needs son. I’ve always known Neil was a musical talent with few peers, but he’s also an awesome Dad.
I thought he left his upper denture on some plane but no, all his teeth are there. Noticed this in an interview about 6 months ago. Now, at age whatever, he’s lisping? Oh, hearing loss! Had no idea that could speech, but it makes sense. Now, next question-why is Judy wearing SO much makeup? Surely she’s not insecure.
Someone who once worked for him did mention an inherited nerve problem that had affected his speech. Don't know if it's true or not, but there could be a medical reason for that. As for the wig and makeup -- age, you guys. I'm 68. Age is rarely kind to any of us.

yep, super nice lady
I love stories like this
Stephen Stills is the coolest of all CSN.. so unassuming, no agenda. His lifetime body of work stunning.
He was correct. He should have skipped all that romance stuff.
Also a great guitar player
One of the main influences on my own guitar playing. Under-rated as a guitar player.

I just wish people would quit complaining about Stephen Stills going deaf and just accept him for the good musician and singer he tends to be.
When I heard the title on the radio for the first time, I thought it was Sweet Judy Blue Eyes.
It still makes sense as a title.
It’s wordplay it’s meant to sound like that
Everyone did. That's why it is a PUN. The title of her book is: SWEET JUDY BLUE EYES.
What a trip that she is onstage singing that with him! So glad I've lived long enough for it ❤️

Collins was a dam' good singer and song writer but she'll be immortal because a boy once loved her.
Ma and Pa Kettle lol. One of the most underrated guitar players ever !
I like how Stephen's hairline has been pretty much in exactly the same place since the late 60's.

She still has an incredible voice 🤗😌
Judy was 79 here. Great going for someone that age!!
What about Stills? No attagirl for him?
Speaks for itself!
the eyes ...amazing
Yes, but if that's a wig (it looks like one!), she needs a better one!!
@@63artemisia63 It's amazing that he can still sing when he was diagnosed at the age of nine with a hearing deficit.
What a fantastic pair!
Would love to have followed these 2 around
What a trip !!!
Love this interview for eternity

It's his deafness
@@LetitRainNow450 But he's been partially deaf since child hood, I believe. And yes, surely, she could afford to be fitted with a better wig.
Got in limo the driver a friend said hiformer passengers were these 2 . Felt honoured just sitting in seats .
C'mon Judy ! after he immortalized you in a song as good as that , and you still wont give him a second chance ?
Guess not.
I wish they had stayed together. They would have made a great love story. Imagine them as your mum and dad.
pure love
So pumped to see them this Summer!

If you want proof there’s no justice in this world, know that after writing this song, Judy still doesn’t take him back.
Well, he sure is a great musician but it might have been true that he wasn't fun any more.
two sides to every story-watch Celebration at Big Sur-THAT'S probably the guy she had to escape from!
so your'e sayin' there's a chance.....yeeeaaahahhh
Maybe Justice knew something we don't.
He had a HUGE cocaine problem.
Damn if that dude wrote that song for me I'd get back together with him, and I'm straight
best cover of this song: foxes and fossils...don't miss it!
Agree! But I'm still waiting for a cover that adds something original and good to that song.
👍🏻👍🏻
Agree on Foxes and Fossils! SJBE's!

it wasnt relevant to the fact of them as a couple. He wrote Suite Judy Blue Eyes for and about her, not carry on or wooden ships
Oh dear.
:35 "I'm the rock and roll girl guitarist"
HUH? When was Judy Collins ever in any way, shape or form "rock and roll" ???
Back in that day, everything that wasn't country or swing was called rock 'n roll!
You miss the point - she meant NOW, AT THIS MOMENT SHE GETS TO BE THAT GIRL.
I absolutely love Judy Collins, but someone has to tell her that her wig is pretty visible...... No matter, she is till beautiful!
To go from playing with Hendrix to Judy must be quite a difference.
Judy's wearing a Dolly Parton wig, lol!
