Another great vid. Thanks, Jon. Perspectives on different sides of the Atlantic fascinate me. As kids growing up in England, we felt the brown trout were very much ours, whereas rainbows were the imports. Whatever, those native brook trout are the stars of your videos. They will always be an exotic species for me, and there cannot be a more beautiful freshwater fish.
That's a crazy different perspective then we have in the states. Brook trout, cutthroat trout, and rainbow trout are natives (west has native rainbows and cutties, east has brookies) but browns have taken over. We love browns but sometimes they're put in areas they really shouldn't be. But then again they're so fun to catch that not many people complain.
Lucas, the longer you fly fish the more rods you will break. It is just part of the sport. You will lose nets, loose flies, break reels, break rods, and drop cameras/phones in the water. Oh, and if you have a drift boat you will let your friend at the oars run into rocks and kill your boat. Just part of the fun.
What a fun video to watch. And Lucas, that was probably not the first rod ya broke nor the last, the heartbreak comes when its someone else's and your buddy's to boot. Jon will be fine and so will you! tight lines boys!
Sweet video! That's a great day on the water! To bad about the rod! I had my rod get stepped on last weekend and broke. On Opening trout weekend in Michigan. Ended my weekend of fishing just as it did yours. But in the end, they make new rods every day, and the memories last forever
Nice work. There are a lot lot worse ways to break a rod tip. Example, The two I’ve done over the years have been yanking, in frustration, after casting a rig into a tree😂. Great vids, awesome fishing, looks superb
Nice browns and brook. I was fortunate enough to catch a couple of rainbows last week, one about 10” and the other about 16” on an ultralight spinning reel so it was fun.
Lucas dude... John is correct the excitement got to him all you did was step on a really expensive stick! Plus John was super cool about it man you're a good guy not your fault. But seriously stop taking your aggression out on John's rod 😂😂😂😂😂 awesome video as always!
Jon ----another great video especially utilizing the Euro Nymphing technique----question, do you detect a hit by watching the line or feeling the take? Can you do a future video on Euro Nymphing, starting with reel/rod setup and fishing on one of the streams you fish? Thanks for sharing
I fish where the first successful planting of Brown Trout in the country happened, in 1884, and I tell you, from my house In mid Michigan, I can fish browns, brookies, rainbows, lake trout and even a rare tiger trout here and there within 2 hours. Can’t really be mad about the introduction! Happy fishing!
Hello, I'm new to fly fishing and would really like to try it out. I was looking to buy a fly rod on Amazon but am not sure what rod to get. Would a fly fishing 586-4 be good for a beginner??
Always tough to have an equipment mishap - I can identify with your friend. But some truly beautiful fish. Oh, I just wish the native eastern brook trout could again attain the dimensions of those browns throughout the Appalachians.
It's not fair, I believe your browns came from my country, UK, but the ones in my River Teign rarely get above 15''! And those brook trout are stunning. Great film.
Are some of these stocked trouts? I know that they stock pretty good throughout West Virginia but I’d assume these aren’t since you want to keep the location discreet
Hardman back in the 70's I took 1st place in a tagged brown trout, I caught , I hooked him under a tree that was in the water , and it was also sunset ..
Who makes this fly rod?! I remember slowing down a precious video and zooming in to see the make once because I was interested in grabbing one. But I neglected to write down the company’s name.
Browns are imports. Most from Germany circa 1880-1890's. They tolerate a wider range of water temperatures and conditions that are not favorable to rainbows and brookies. They are more likely to spawn and introduce multiple generations of "wild fish" as well. The largest fish I catch are browns.
I did that last year on closing day 😭 I was so excited to fish the last hole of the day and as I parked my truck I instinctively rolled up my windows and *CRUNCH* 😭 Both my 3wt and my 5wt gone just like that... the ONE time I was too lazy to break down my rods too
I broke an expensive rod on my road trip today. It was my streamer rod. The loss is immeasurable and idk if I'll recover financially or mentally. Guess I'll have to buy a spare
Ahh yes. The brown. Poplar because they are trout, get long, and one of the top 4000 hardest fight fish in any given state. Love em, or hate them, they'll be bound to take over your water ways soon enough...along with carp, pike, and fresh water muscles. Aweeeee yeeeah!
Hey Lucas, sorry about what happened to your fly rod. Sadly, it happens more often than you might think. So mush so that I don’t even like to fly fish with expensive gear for precisely that reason. The way I’ve come to look at it is the fish you just landed doesn’t know the fly rod combo you used to reel him in was just purchased at rock bottom prices at the local pawn shop. But both of you really have me enjoying your videos. Particularly on days when the weather won’t cooperate for me to get outside myself. 😇
You aren't a fly fisherman if you haven't broken a rod. It's like getting a new achievement in your fly fishing journey. Fish long enough and there are all kinds of ways you break fly rods!
Please tell me about your leader and tippet set up. It appears that you were stripping monofilament rather than the flightline. I’m relatively new to this type of fishing as I just moved to the mountains of North Carolina. Would love to know more about how you set up. Thank you.
Just shows them browns and brooks do fine together lol 🤔 scientists don’t know nothing . They don’t fish it . Funny too probably never caught a wild tiger there either .
That’s blatantly false. Would be interesting to check back on this stream in 10 years and also compare it to how it was before browns were introduced to it. I’m Not one of those guys who is screaming for mass removals of brown trout, but there’s no reason we should tolerate brown trout in the same watershed as brook trout. It’s not just about a fisherman’s point of view, it’s looking at the ecosystem and realizing brown trout cannot fill the spot brook trout can. Btw brookies used to grow as big as some of these browns, before the browns were introduced. I think the scientists would know more than someone who just cares about the size of fish they catch
Another great vid. Thanks, Jon.

Australia watches too. Good to see your enthusiasm for looking after your catch. Cheers , Pete 😊
Tnx for the videos. Learned a lot. I am still begginer in nymphing but I am hooked.
Greetings from Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Tight lines!
The best natural fishing I think I've ever seen. Just beautiful. Thanks.
Glad you enjoyed!
Great video. Shows me how much more casting experience I need to be this precise.

I broke my last tip looking over the side of a suspension footbridge and walked it right into the tower 🙄
Nice browns and brook. I was fortunate enough to catch a couple of rainbows last week, one about 10” and the other about 16” on an ultralight spinning reel so it was fun.
That's awesome!! Congrats
Love fishing for Browns :) Enjoyed
That was the coolest hookup the trout under the log 🎣 legend
Glad you enjoyed!

SpotBurn fishing Adventures back at it againnnnnnnn 👍🏼
I swear ya'll just get bored and have to find something to get upset about LOL

Good fishing on that second Brown 👌

Great video guys!
Great fishing video with nice browns! So sorry for your rod.
Some nice browns! Good u have an extra tip! What was the fly of choice if I may ask? Tightlines!

You and me both!!
Feels illegal to be this early lol
That GH6 footage is crispy. Are you shooting with the 9mm lens?
Great fish, what brand of net are you using?
You did a very good job to land those two browns!
I think Lucas owes you lunch next time out! 😂 Some gorgeous browns!
HAHAHA Something like that!! Thanks for watching
Wow, that line looks almost transparent on camera. Great vid.
I love brown trout. Maybe the most beautiful of all trout, in my opinion anyway.
Watching this cuz my $1000 fly rod broke yesterday
What size leader or tippet would you use for bass?
I had a big fish drought last month, then bam 2 20”+ fish in one trip. Great browns! Feels good to hook up and feel those head shakes.
Gotta love it when you get back on them!!
It's not fair, I believe your browns came from my country, UK, but the ones in my River Teign rarely get above 15''! And those brook trout are stunning. Great film.
Amazing catches
What kind of line are you using in this video?
"Lucas was my friend....until he broke my rod"......LOL
LOL

What wt streamer rod do you use ?
yu guys still on the east coast or is this CA ??

Great video, sorry bout the rod though but it'll be fine. These things happen
It all good he said he had extra
Nice Brownies!Ran into some young guys on the Davidson River in NC last week. One of em was a subscriber. How far flung are your subscribers?
I'd say they're all over the US, although NC isn't that far flung. Thanks for watching Larry
Hi from the UK. We have the internet over here now too. Big fan of your videos.
dude sick video! is this a Black mamba rod?!?
Nope it's an Adams
@@hardmanfishing looks good! I didnt think there was other rod like this , ty!
Hey Lucas, don't feel bad. I rolled up the power window up on my favorite fly rod "CRUNCH". That was it's end. Unlike Jon I didn't have spare parts. 😢
I did that last year on closing day 😭 I was so excited to fish the last hole of the day and as I parked my truck I instinctively rolled up my windows and *CRUNCH* 😭 Both my 3wt and my 5wt gone just like that... the ONE time I was too lazy to break down my rods too
I had a buddy do this before!!
Appalachia ?? southern WV ?
What setup is that?
This video needs more likes
Agreed!
Great video! Nice fish! What rod is it?
Adams XZT
Hardman those brown trout are pretty smart, they hide under tree, cut out river banks, New Jersey has alot of brown trout
Not native to Michigan but by far my favorite fish. Brookies second
Broke rod? A matter of when not if.Enjoyed the video!
I broke an expensive rod on my road trip today. It was my streamer rod. The loss is immeasurable and idk if I'll recover financially or mentally. Guess I'll have to buy a spare
what rod is it?
Did I see that you tied two flies on?

Was that the adams xtz?
Yep!
You running straight mono?
I use a mono rig, but my leader in floro
@@hardmanfishing do that for salmon and steelhead but haven’t taken that route for trout yet…hmmm have me thinking now.
Lucas if I had a nickel for every rod tip I broke one way or another I’d have a lot of nickels lol 😂. It happens buddy just wish I had extras though.
you can hear the moment his heart breaks when his rod break
Goodness Lucas.
4:35 that’s the spot your brother caught that big hammer of brown trout a couple years ago. Was laying under that same log lol 😂
I wrote that while watching and a couple seconds later you hooked another big brown there . That log is boss bro
I can say with pretty good confidence that my brother did not catch a fish out of that log a few years ago 😂
@@hardmanfishingI don’t know I feel like your brother was throwing steamers in the same whole and caught a monster I remember that.
@@tedtresco5283 No I'm saying I know for a fact he didn't catch a fish there because he's only fished this area once and never on video LOL

No doubt!!
My brother stepped on and broke my rod once, and I stepped on and broke my own rod once. It happens.
What happened to your thumb
I crushed it in the car door a few months back!
Lucas, buy him a new rod!

Nice fish. Sorry your millionaire's fly rod got broke. Your sponsors will give you another.
Complete sell outs. Going to ruin a fishery just for some clout and views. Grade A job!
