Love the interior of 32RM, the motor trimmer certainly gave a professional finish to the seat upholstery. I recall as a boy going from Castlemaine to Maldon (late 1960's) in a rail motor, in summer the poor driver sat with just a singlet on and shorts to combat the heat with sweat running down his face. Really enjoyed the news and information.
9:42, "the wheels kept falling off". that sounds like fun! there may still be leyland engines that suit that rail motor lurking around in the uk. its probably the same engine thats used in old buses.
Fortunately, we don't need one. In the 1930s the Victorian Railways re-engined 51 and 52RM with 6LW Gardner diesels, of which we have all the correspondence and drawings for. About 12 years ago we were able to purchase a reconditioned 6LW which is currently stored waiting for the day it can be installed in 53RM
@@Railmotor-53RM , well done. i recently watched a tank museum video about how they put a modern toyota 4 cylinder diesel in an old ww2 german tank because they had absolutely no hope of finding an original motor. it works a treat.
Well if the Castlemaine Maryborough Railtrail group recieved $520000 for a pre construction (conversion) assessment grant, you should get a team together for a grant application and explain the importance of it's transportation, community, engineering and social heritage significance.
As mentioned in the video, the issue is to get 53 to fit the grant eligibility criteria. The one for the Castlemaine to Maryborough rail trail was for project assessments, not implementation. We have applied for 5 grants over the years for the work to get 53 back into service, all have been unsuccessful, largely because they were marginal in meeting objectives of the funding programs. However, we will keep trying!
would it actually become a functional railway like VGR or just stay as a walking trail. like VGR might run a few trains down that way if it does become a railway
when the layland railmotor comes back it'll be the oldest running railmotor in Victoria, unless someone finds the AEC and it comes back into running service

Loving these videos guys, good luck with 53! I am very excited to see what happens with her
Fascinating stuff. Best wishes for 2025‼️✌️
I love the work you guys are doing, hopefully you guys can secure funds for 53rm. Hopefully there is an Aec hidden somewhere, and just forgotten
I'd love to get a new built mckeen
I can't wait to see the Y class!

governments fork out big money for rail trails to minimise demands to re-open old railway lines.

Do you still have the N set from V/Line what days do you run them as I would like to ride on them

That’s a lot of money, good luck with it all. You never know tho, I will be in the queue in 26 if you get it going 👍

Does the Walker have a Gardener engine?
Yes they do. 91RM has two 8LWs, 32RM a 6L3 and 7RM a 6LW.
What days do you run volunteer days? I’ve seen in your website that you do Saturday working bees but for those who work weekends, is there any others?
@@vincentweatherly9991 we also have a mid week group of volunteers, please get in touch via volunteers@dscr.com.au
