    Thanks for this! Out of the ten videos I watched for a no c-wire system. Yours was by far, the most informative and entertaining install video. Thanks a lot. Now, I need to go to the dollar store to fix the extra hole in my wall! Or, I think I just may leave it, because I am the king of my castle!

    Love the humor added. Very detailed and no chit-chat “filler talk”, right to the point and this video handled my problem exactly. We ordered the C adapter for our 2-wire boiler steam heat system (as designed in 1924 wiring). We won’t give up our steam heat (love it in winter) - for a furnace. Thanks for a great video and adding ha-ha points to it.

    You saved the day. Like a few others I was ready to give up. The C wire behind my old thermostat was not connected and had no power anyway. I did not want to mess with the control board inside my air handler. So I used your string and nut method to run the wires from an external power supply through the wall. It worked perfectly. Thank you!

    You are a lifesaver my guy, I have tried so many different ways to get my upgraded Wi-Fi thermostat to work, I had bought a transformer to get the C terminal to work and nothing, not even my boiler guy couldn't get it going , I was about to give up and go back to the old thermostat until I saw your video and you hit it right on the button when you said to take off the jumper wire and install the other wire 👍🏽 It fired up, lights came on and joy, happiness all over my face, 👍🏽👍🏽great job.

    1. You get right to the point!
    2. Your instructions are clear!
    3. Great video supports your verbal instructions.
    4. You know what the hell you're talking about!

    Great video and very helpful. For those of you using a separate power source other than a "C" wire, make sure you're using a minimum of 24 Volt AC or 24 VAC power cord. I thought I was using the correct power cord until I realized it was only a 9 VAC but not before a total meltdown on my part.

    You're video helped me to replace my old mercury thermostat with new Honeywell WiFi Thermostat. In my case, I had 4 wires (W,G,R,Y they were not labeled as color) not C wire. As you mentioned, I looked in the drywall and found unused wires(blue,brown,black) but non of them worked as 'C' because those weren't connected to Furnace Power Supply.
    So, I connected one of the available color wire to the Furnace power supply board on 'C' socket and same color other End wire in the thermostat as in "C" (along with W,G,R,Y) in family room.
    Wallah ! it works... Thank You

    Replacing and old thermostat that has only two wires:
    In our case the old thermostat had two wires (Red and White). I connected the Red wire to the R terminal on the thermostat and the white to the W thermostat terminal.
    I removed the jumper provide with the thermostat between R and RC.
    Our gas burning hot water heating system had a relatively new "ARM-2P Control with Priority" unit that has a connector for 24 VAC and Common. I ran a new wire from the heating system to the thermostat. It had a black and a white wires. I Connected the black to the 24 VAC on the ARM and to the C wire on the thermostat. The white wire is connected to the Common on the ARM and to the RC on the thermostat.
    All works great.

    how did you determine which of the unused wires was the C Wire?

  • @MegalithicMentality
    @MegalithicMentality 5 років тому +32

    If you dont want to drill holes in your walls. You can plug in the 24v transformer to power near your furnace or (where the other end of your control wires are). Run the wires from your transformer to unused wires such as Black as common, and blue as Rc. Then go back upstairs to the thermostat and connect them accordingly.

    • @tonyming6969
      @tonyming6969 3 роки тому +3

      But if you have an unused wire, just connect it to the Common terminal on the furnace control board, then obviously the other end to "C" at the t-stat.

    • @robhalcomb3
      @robhalcomb3 3 роки тому

      True but the adapter is for those who dont have extra wires. If your stat happens to be close to the furnace like in most apartments then you can just run a new stat wire from transformer to the common. If it's far away then the adapter is a good fit.

    • @videorobo
      @videorobo 2 роки тому +2

      @@tonyming6969 Yes, THIS is the correct information. If you DO have an "extra wire" going from the furnace to the thermostat, you don't need the transformer. The furnace can already supply the "common" connection. Just connect the "extra wire" to the "common" connection inside the furnace, and the same wire to the "common" connection on the new thermostat.

    • @Shibu11229
      @Shibu11229 Рік тому +1

I will be using it to simply control a circulating pump on my heating system. The pump controls a snow melt system under a sidewalk. I chose this method to make it Wi-Fi. Accessible. So, this is a brand-new installation (no existing wires). I added the power adaptor that you recommended, and it is plugged in, has power at the outlet, and is hooked to the "R" and "Rc" but is not lighting up; it appears to be unpowered. Any suggestions? Buyer beware, Honeywell thermostats keep your house within 1 degree temperature, they don't advertise it in any way I have found, that causes your heater and ac to cycle a lot, when it turns on, not only does it use more energy then when it's already running, it puts much more wear on your pump and motor, I had to talk to one of their techs to find this out!
    In the long run you pay a lot more in bills!
    All these people spending all this time to find out it's factory like that. I loved it other than that! Taking it back though!

    Thanks so much for the video. But I have a question. My old thermostat had 4 wire like in the video and I bought a new wifi Bosch thermostat and is requiring a C wire. If I put the ac adapter like you showed in the video, the ac adapter have 2 wires, which one will be connected to the C plug and the other wire where is going to be? Can you help me on that. Will appreciate that

    This isn't the Honeywell c wire adapter. It's a 24 volt power adapter. Their website has a completely different item called the C-wire adapter that gets installed at the HVAC control panel that doesn't get plugged into a wall outlet.

    Can you still use the wifi feature of the thermostat even if you only connect it with 2 wires: red/black or white/black ones? In only have 2 wires in my set up

    Question. Mine is without c wire. I got only. 2 wires, W and R . Can I jump the power from W to C terminal.
    Cause what I am thinking is, W is bringing the power in and R is bringing out, and C terminal is for power up the thermostat, so why not get the power from W.

    My old thermostat has 2 wires at R and W. No C wire. However, there are 2 more wires that goes all the way to furnace but these not connected to anything. Should I use these for CWire?

    How do you cover that hole in the wall? Mention that there are alternatives that require wiring at heating unit that are neater, if more complex, than this method. Thanks!

    I installed my RTF9585WTF thermostat a few years back along with the adapter for "C" wire. It has worked fine all these years. But now the screen has gone blank. I think it may be adapter that is issue. How can I check to see if adapter is OK?
