I have the Montage 6 and this instrument is an absolute Beast! Thanks Blake for the great demo! I’ve learned a lot and was able to utilize the Superknob more efficiently w/ the help of this video. Also, big Shout-Out to Alex Campos @ Sweetwater! p.s This keyboard is the best keyboard I.M.O for live performances. I would be owning this keyboard for a very long time!
Look around for a used one. I picked up an 8 about a month ago. It really was a deal too good to pass up. She threw in a $200 USD hard shell case a $200 USD heavy duty stand. That & a Montage 8 for $2500.00 USD. It still had some of the packing tape when it was new about a year prior. It was local from an individual so no tax no shipping. Of course it’s a lot smarter than I am. My point (sorry) there are deals out there. You do have to be ready when you find them. Of course I had to convince my wife we had to spend 2500 bucks on a synth in the middle of a kitchen remodel in our new house before we sold our old house. Yeah I’m going to keep her. 😎
Thanks Blake, very informative and a great tutorial. Montage is my go-to board now even though I have the latest Kronos updates. Montage just keeps getting better. Two things on my wish list for future releases - a global aftertouch setting. It is tedious to set aftertouch for each program/patch and sometime I just want it to open the filter on everything. Also a global A/D input effects setting would be helpful. I know this plays against the superknob so I guess I can give Yamaha a pass on that. However, the lack of footswitch control of scene changes is a big deal to me. A performer or improviser does not want to leave the keyboard for every scene. This is a real error of design IMHO. Korg has had this for almost 2 decades with Karma scenes. Please pass this request forward. Thanks again for all you do.
I wonder if it would be possible to import my Kurzweil sound libraries into Montage? I have Post Organ Toolkit which I use extensively and would like good pipe organ samples on the Montage.
Hi, thanks for your interest! While Yamaha instruments won't support files that are formatted for Kurzweil, you could use the SampleRobot software to convert your Kurzweil sounds into Montage patches. Take a look at this link from Yamaha for details: www.yamahasynth.com/montage-category/introducing-samplerobot-montage-edition Feel free to contact me directly with any further questions! I just got the Motif Rack XS and have the Montage 8 on order. I was disappointed with the grand piano sound on the rack unit. Its boomy, constricted dynamics, etc. I hope the Montage has far better playability in the pianos. I'm used to the Steinway D in my Kurzweil K2600RS, which plays much like an actual acoustic piano. I'd like to sell all my Kurz gear but it depends on Montage being able to do pianos this well.
I'm thinking about getting a new synth/keyboard/workstation. i've been using a motif xs for the last 10 years. besides i want awesome sounds, to me it is important i can quickly record ideas in a sequencer. how is this machine's sequencer? does it have a pattern sequencer?
@@elissitdesign yeah i figured that much. Too bad. I had to get a Korg Kronos. It's nice but the buttons on the Kronos are a bit flimsey. I would have prefered this Yamaha build with the Kronos functionality. The sounds are on the same level i think.
hi, i have version 1.51..... they dont have v2.00 anymore in the yamaha website....! can i upgrade version 1.51 to v 2.50 ? or do i have to keep looking for v2.0. let me know... thankss
Hello, Edgar! Yamaha will likely have pulled the older v2.0 firmware from their website with the announcement of the new v2.5 firmware. There is no downside of going straight to the newest v2.5, and you can read more about it and download it here: usa.yamaha.com/news_events/2018/20180731_yamaha_montage_os_v25_adds_new_sounds.html Thanks! Motif ES was released in 2003 having 1GB of user memory . Montage is released in 2018 having only 2GB of user memory over ES. Strange right ? . With a 100$ cheap personal computer you can have 16 GB of memory if you want . But with this 4000$ synth you can't put more user memory space even if you want that .

Hey, Igor. Thanks for reaching out! I have used this with a DAW. It's a great feature that allows you to utilize much of what the Montage has to offer in your DAW sessions. You don't lose any quality, but there is more integration that helps to easily bridge the gap between the Montage and your recording software. Hi, IamVenVile! The Montage is an awesome instrument designed from the ground up to be a Sound Designer's playground, and it excels at that. It's not intended to be a workstation in the traditional sense. It does have a MIDI record function that's really there to quickly capture an idea of the Performance that you're directly playing at that moment. It does not edit, or allow for multi-tracking. It's an "I have an idea and want to record it before I forget it" Direct Performance Recorder. You can export your data as a .mid file; drag and drop this into your favorite DAW, and then edit from there. I hope that helps. Please give a call if you have any more questions. It's a wonderful and amazing sound-scape. Greg Savino, Senior Sweetwater Sales Engineer, (800) 222-4700 ext. 1357
