We will not soon see works for Bass players and Jazz enthusiasts with with such dissertational efforts to their Jazz Books on the subjects like we see here, much gratitude to Mr. John Goldberg.
That book inspires me to write a book about all the other greats like Ralph Pena,Monty Budwig, Joe Mondragon,Curtis Counce,Jim Hughart ,Chuck Berghoffer, Michael Moore,John Webber,Dennis Irwin,Neal Miner and a million others ,a huge contribution to the history of the Bass,. John Goldsby is a beautiful cat ,his 4 courses on Discover Double Bass kept me sane and focused during the past couple of years of crazy times. Geoff you are doing a great job of keeping the love strong in the global bass community ! The big difference between you and all the others is your enthusiasm and love of the music,I can see it in your eyes and smile ,you are not trying to sell us something, you just want to spread the love and tradition. Todd Coolman has the same approach, Pass it on . For this you have my eternal respect. Plus we both love Dogs . My Border Collie and my Labrador say "Woof" to your beautiful Springer Spaniel. Best regards from Barcelona.
Hey Garry, that's an awesome idea! There are so many wonderful players who would be great to feature and celebrate. Thanks for your kind words and best wishes from the the U.K! Cheers Geoff :-)
I don't know how I did it, but when I started I checked out and learned the bass lines by/with LP's. Without scratching them! And it worked :-) Nowadays I use Amazing Slowdowner, but I'm not sure if it works better than it did with the LP's... :-D
to quote the late and very great Red Mitchell, the thing I like the most about the 4 Goldsby lessons is they are all "Scrupulously balderdash-free" ;- )

What a beautiful articulation!
A video to watch and rewatch, to write down names to check out, to play, to learn. Incredibly inspiring, classy and welcoming channel.
Probably the best book on the history and tradition of double bass in jazz music
Highly recommended
J. Goldsby is always so interesting!
It's interesting how similar Violent Femmes' Blister In The Sun is to Oscar Pettiford Quartet's Blues in the Closet (8:45 mark)

@@DiscoverDoubleBass I just ordered John Goldsby book from Barnes and Noble today, and a Ray Brown book and one other.
@@jamesrichardson3322 Two epic books! I love the blues lines from the Ray Brown book and John's is my #1 jazz book.
@@DiscoverDoubleBass I don't know? I think Ray Brown might be better 😜
@@DiscoverDoubleBass I own John book it is awesome, the man is a inspiration too us all
Love the ease of his left hand.
Yes, it looks so relaxed and fluid.
Find what you like, sing it, play it, write it. Stick with it and you will fly.
