This thing is the place where our mind/soul floats intuitivly Katie (i think we do that as soon as we think inside music as children (the best part is ,as a guitarist over 50 years and Bass just over a year,. I see and hear you, and say, wow she is in horn space!, with that vocalizing ,that is a perfect horn set of notes she has voiced!(if you write that for a perfomance ,with horns , it will be astounding to hear! (i can imagine it!...can you do it? (it's worth!.....and thanks just for being here! (PS you should get some horn players to work with!)
Even though I am not a bass player, I love how you inspire players of this instrument. As an aspiring jazz pianist, I learned much from this lesson-your passion as a teacher and performer shines through this instrument. Thank you, Katie, you are fantastic. Ivan - Brisbane Australia
Thank you so much!! I have been looking for lessons and examples of melodic jazz bass soloing for a couple years. It seems like 90%+ of all jazz solos are based on scales and arpeggios and riffs with very little thought to melody. i.e. just noise or practice lines. Your start with essentially C-Jam blues was rich and helpful. Thinking in terms of singable solos is also helpful. 🙏 I am excited to find your lesson!
It's a nice video. I am sceptic about the "Discover Double Bass" title of the channel though. I have a little beginner background in bass and music theory, and do not understand any of the exercises shown here.
The lessons are for all bassists, from beginners to advanced so there's a lot we publish that won't be a good fit for you. We have a free lessons library with a dedicated beginners category if you want to find lessons which are designed to cover the fundamentals discoverdoublebass.com/lessons-library/ I hope you like them and good luck with your double bass journey. :-)
The DDB theme music that we use at the opening is an excerpt of 'Decade's End' by Craig Butterfield which is a composition that's available exclusively within our course, Intermediate to Advanced Classical Bass by Jason Heath. It's a great piece!

Your walking bass is more melodic, rhythmic than most of what I've heard on youtube. If I had a band I'd want YOU to play in it.
Thank’s for this great video this is the best way for improvising like the Giant George Benson for example
