    U need to keep load locks and straps. Its your responsibility to secure the load remember that. Also just sometimes you got take your time on turns. Always check load b4 leaving the shipper.

    • @richardadorno9187
      @richardadorno9187 3 роки тому +7

      Is it the drivers responsibility to secure the load or the shipper? The drivers contract would specify. My feeling is if Chris is the shipper than it’s his responsibility. Chris specified he doesn’t know what the loads are or secure them. I would say this is a learned experience for Chris where from now on he can talk with the loaders or packers while picking up the loads that there not gonna be damaged. Cool videos Chris.

    • @FancyFeast3
      @FancyFeast3 3 роки тому +4

      Liability comes down to the the loaders right? But they can report that they're loading is good, can't they? I thought they had a guy on site to say "Yeah it's good, check" and then it's their word against yours. I did brokering for TQL on 8,000 cross country loads that had three seals. It was intense when it came to procedure. We had some damaged goods once, we weren't too hard on the driver because these loading facilities can be extremely dubious.

    • @generalbash89

      From my experience (10years otr), it is always the drivers responsibility to verify load security before leaving shipper. However shippers regularly rely on truckers not checking the load, always check the load.

    Here is a pro tip next time do not bring out the lift gate just take the load to the end of the truck it will make it easier for the forklift and saver for him not to break your gate or anything esle or drop the lift gate a bit. Because it seems like he was having a tough time.

    This is typical for owner operators with your own authority. It has happened to me many times, and the brokers have you going place to place looking for somewhere to get rid of the freight. My Dad who has his own authority also, has a different approach. If they refuse the load he will haul it back to his own warehouse and tell the broker to pay him for the return and storage. He is also a millionaire and he can afford the lawyers if this gets messy. I can't operate at that level, so most of the time, if this happens to a small business owner, you are at the mercy of the broker. Anyways my brother. Hope it all works out.

  • @jstorm65

    I second that strap advice man. As an LTL driver for the past 16 years. You as the driver have final say over the condition of any freight that gets loaded into your trailer or straight job. Most shippers don’t wrap pallets properly. You have a good set up for crank straps in your truck. Love the vids man!

  • @wakeup833
    @wakeup833 3 роки тому +22

    Suggestion....keep a couple of rolls of wrap and a dispenser on hand. That way we u see a load that is wrapped that way you can wrap it a little better before they load it on your truck. Better safe than sorry. They should comp u for the night spent

    I used to work in shipping for a large lighting company and we would get in trouble if we didn't include the pallet in the wrap. Next time you see a pallet wrapped like this, I would just have the shipper wrap around the pallet a couple of times. Also, It wouldn't hurt to invest in some ratchet straps and some wrap of your own just in case.

    After 24 years in the logistic world. I'd carry essentials to secure your loads. You could possibly carry a small air compressor and purchase load air bags. It will avoid shifting of products on skids. Alot of shippers half ass their wrapping. Make sure it is wrapped good from top to bottom of the skid. If not make notation from shipper to avoid any liability on your part if poorly wrapped. Straps and plywood are a good way to separate your loads and keep them secure.

    The good thing is yes you’re getting paid. The photos are a good representation of how the load was received. Going forward make sure the pallets are always properly wrapped before loading.
    As a dispatcher, when I send my clients ( owner operators) to the pick up location, I’ll send instructions (check off list to avoid issues like this). On the rate con there is a pick up time and if the shipper take to long to load we can charge a “Detention fee”.
    Talk to your dispatcher about charging the broker a detention/holding fee for keeping the product locked and stored. For me I would tell my owner operator we’re going to make sure you receive 150 to 175 dollars a day we hold the product and I would make the shipper pay this with the rate con.

    You should buy an dash cam for things if they doesn’t go as plan or if something goes crazy in the road you can show other people so you can stay safe but your still able to bring an firearm to be safe if someone tries to get your load while your in bad traffic or them just try and take whatever is in your truck so just saying but it could be helpful 🙏🏽

    As someone who ships things freight often I would have said it was the shippers responsibility. When we ship freight we wrap and band everything so nothing moves on the pallet.

    You should get a "per diem" rate, it's the cost of covering your basic expenses. Also, covering "reasonable lodging" as a casual driver is not an unusual or outrageous expense. You're driving a "day can", not a condo or sleeper birth power unit.
