I thought they had a guy on site to say "Yeah it's good, check" and then it's their word against yours. I did brokering for TQL on 8,000 cross country loads that had three seals. It was intense when it came to procedure. We had some damaged goods once, we weren't too hard on the driver because these loading facilities can be extremely dubious.

I second that strap advice man. As an LTL driver for the past 16 years. You as the driver have final say over the condition of any freight that gets loaded into your trailer or straight job. Most shippers don’t wrap pallets properly. You have a good set up for crank straps in your truck. Love the vids man!
This is typical for owner operators with your own authority. It has happened to me many times, and the brokers have you going place to place looking for somewhere to get rid of the freight. My Dad who has his own authority also, has a different approach. If they refuse the load he will haul it back to his own warehouse and tell the broker to pay him for the return and storage. He is also a millionaire and he can afford the lawyers if this gets messy. I can't operate at that level, so most of the time, if this happens to a small business owner, you are at the mercy of the broker. Anyways my brother. Hope it all works out.

Here is a pro tip next time do not bring out the lift gate just take the load to the end of the truck it will make it easier for the forklift and saver for him not to break your gate or anything esle or drop the lift gate a bit. Because it seems like he was having a tough time.

Suggestion....keep a couple of rolls of wrap and a dispenser on hand. That way we u see a load that is wrapped that way you can wrap it a little better before they load it on your truck. Better safe than sorry. They should comp u for the night spent
I used to work in shipping for a large lighting company and we would get in trouble if we didn't include the pallet in the wrap. Next time you see a pallet wrapped like this, I would just have the shipper wrap around the pallet a couple of times. Also, It wouldn't hurt to invest in some ratchet straps and some wrap of your own just in case.

After 24 years in the logistic world. I'd carry essentials to secure your loads. You could possibly carry a small air compressor and purchase load air bags. It will avoid shifting of products on skids. Alot of shippers half ass their wrapping. Make sure it is wrapped good from top to bottom of the skid. If not make notation from shipper to avoid any liability on your part if poorly wrapped. Straps and plywood are a good way to separate your loads and keep them secure.
That's on you, next time secure the load against the wall, get you some plywood and straps. Just like you got creative with fixing your mirror do the same with your loads.
@@nickgipson912 that's ok but the average forklift weighs 9000 lbs. That's close to the payload on most non cdl trucks and that's not including the freight. Even a conservative 7000 lbs would be a lot of weight in a short amount of space. They tear up the box and the floor over time. If your truck is old it has a high chance of putting holes in the floor. Ask if they have electric jacks to load you with.
I also lease my trucks. They swap em out after so many miles. We did have a hino that seemed to not handle it well. Truck would rock hard from side to side and the boards would make an awful crunching sound
What I would also do, if they refuse it because of shippers bad wrapping, then the shipper pays for load back, or they pay you for the load even tho its not accepted and maybe recycle the cans.
Sounds like a new sales rep who doesn’t have control of his customers process. That “Hang tight” is sickening lol. Make sure you get all layover pay, any linehaul pay to the next destination and whatever accessorial charges. Make it easy on yourself, and never book a load with that rep or company again.

Charge detention time and get paid to take it wherever they ask. You're losing money by the day and may have to cancel loads that's booked already because of that load. And read your contract with that broker.

those plastic pallet are notorious for freight shifting. Like everyone and their mama said up in here buy MANY straps.. I've learned if I take 15 -20 minutes extra to secure a load man it has saved me from nightmare situations like you encountered. 🙌

Always keep your tuck full, if you have to half a tank fill up. Don’t let it run down low. What happens also is all the dirt goes to the bottom and sucks it into the lines.
All loads will shift , invest on buying 2 load bars, 2 straps, and 4 re usable air bags, and portable leaf blower to blow your bags. 2 airbags would of stop shift, driver is always responsible for the loads. Every time you pick up, think of what could happen in transit, your new at this, and you will learn quick. Been driving 30 years, seen it all, done it all. Good luck
Bro That’s suck when you got to sit, I had one of those , the shipper send two pallets of bleach that the receiver didn’t carry so they couldn’t even take it, I sat for like a day before they had me take it to FedEx few minutes away where they had it shipped back to the shipper
gotta check ya freight before leaving if you can. If you are not allowed on the deck, tell them the customer needs a pik of the load before it leaves the shipper. This way you can correct anything thats wrong.

I know this video is old. It's the loader job to make sure their loads are secure. As a loader the way you load it is the way you want the receiver to take it. Just make sure you have the yellow load straps.

@@ChrisTV1 True, but you are also getting made to make sure the load arrives at the receiver on-time and securely, trust me. The more you care about the load arriving safely and in one-piece the more brokers/shippers/dispatcher will want to do business with you, hence more work .
Better yet you should carry some broken pallets and stack them between the wall and two pallets.Most shippers have spare pallets or will give you pallets if you ask for them. I know the shipper wrapped the load and his responsibility, BUT ) a big but here ) the driver could have just add 4-to-8 spare pallets as dunnage and 15mins of work and would not have had this issues, would have gotten paid and not have to deal with a reject and wasted time.
The good thing is yes you’re getting paid. The photos are a good representation of how the load was received. Going forward make sure the pallets are always properly wrapped before loading. As a dispatcher, when I send my clients ( owner operators) to the pick up location, I’ll send instructions (check off list to avoid issues like this). On the rate con there is a pick up time and if the shipper take to long to load we can charge a “Detention fee”. Talk to your dispatcher about charging the broker a detention/holding fee for keeping the product locked and stored. For me I would tell my owner operator we’re going to make sure you receive 150 to 175 dollars a day we hold the product and I would make the shipper pay this with the rate con.

Just a tip. If they have a forklift. No need to take out your lift. Just put that pallet at the end of your bed. Have them take it out.
You should get a pallet jack. Those forklifts are too heavy for the truck
yeah we dont allow any forklifts to go in our Box Trucks. Also surprised they took thst military load even though it was damaged.

Layover charge $250, a day but you can try and get the most of it since it's your not fault and see what they say

U must secure each individual load to prevent movement. Even if its the shopper error, it creates a bad situation for you.
Fuel cards report to the credit agencies building your business credit.
I ship ltl all the time. That shipment was not packaged at all. No way i would expect that to get around the block in shrinkwrap.

Talk to your dispatcher about charging the broker a detention/holding fee for keeping the product locked and stored. For me I would tell my owner operator we’re going to make sure you receive 150 to 175 dollars a day we hold the product and I would make the shipper pay this with the rate con.

You should buy an dash cam for things if they doesn’t go as plan or if something goes crazy in the road you can show other people so you can stay safe but your still able to bring an firearm to be safe if someone tries to get your load while your in bad traffic or them just try and take whatever is in your truck so just saying but it could be helpful 🙏🏽
