Honestly, this is one of the better instructional videos I’ve watched when it comes to working on a vehicle. Very clear instructions, explained everything thoroughly, showed what tools you used and everything. About to replace the egr valve on mine, and this cleared up every question I had. Thanks for the awesome video!
Just received my EGR valve purchased after watching your video and having a computer hooked up by Oreilly’s where a PO401 and PO405 code popped up on my 2004 Ford Expedition 4.6 2wd. Installed and had Oreilly’s clear the code crossing my fingers that this fixes the issue. That nut connected to the the metal hose was the toughest part of this job for me just an awkward space to work in. Video was very helpful. Thanks
@@dustyrc nope I had just purchased the truck I’m guessing the previous owner just cleared the code then sold it to me after failing to fix the issue he replaced the feedback hoses but reinstalled them backwards (tubes are different sizes in kit). Bought a EGR feedback hose kit from Amazon ) replaced hoses and the code disappeared and hasn’t come back (item# SMPM40001) hoses are supposed to be 2 different sizes.
Great video. Good instructions, showed and told us what we needed. I appreciate your upload. Now I feel confident that I can do this repair. Subscribed
Believe it or not, that's probably one of the most overlooked problems on F150s and Expeditions. I was having the same problem. When you do code analysis on it ,it'll read 401, 403 or ignition codes. After replacing the PCV VALVE, the M.A.F AND M.A.P sensors, throttle intake, even the coils and spark plugs. It ran for a while then it came up again. The engine light. Thanks for the tip.
Fixing to change the EGR on my '02. Original EGR...just rolled over 310,000 miles. Glad to know the EGR isn't a big deal to change! Thanks for the vid, Schulyer!
Quick question my truck doing same thing but says bank one and two And got new EGR so gonna try it tomorrow Already put cam shaft sensor crank shaft sensor fuel filter coil packs spark plugs maf sensor.
Thanks for your video. You presented a number of helpful recommendations...identifying the correct valve, moving hoses out of the way as needed, catching the plate before it fell down into the engine cavity. All of this REALLY helped! I especially appreciated the careful, systematic presentation. Nice job!
Yo, just a shoutout of excitement to see someone else using the stanley extending 3/8 ratchet. Those things are beastly! I had to buy a second one after managing to break the first, but it took 2 men stomping on a 5 foot cheat bar with it attached to a lugnut on a very stubborn bucket truck. Also thanks for making this video, im about to attempt this myself!
As a female that's new to doing my own vehicle repairs, I wished you could've shown every step of you removing that EGR Valve, but I'm sure it's kind of hard to do that when your doing the recording and removing a part alone. I know I would have to have another person if I tried recording.😊 I've had to replace other EGR parts that were simple like the Vacuum, DPFE sensor, and and other parts like EVAP vent solenoid and spark plugs and coils on my 2000 ford expedition 4.6L V8 Triton XLT. My Motorcraft EGR Valve is here, hopefully I do this right also.😊
@ΔΗΜΗΤΡΙΟΣ ΦΛΩΡΟΣ I definitely cleaned it off as much as possible.. I didn't sand but I did use the same brush, with cleaning solution to clean the facing before adding the new gasket..
The Only Thing I Could possibly suggest if you have run out of options. would be to heat it up a little.. like let the engine run a little turn it off used some towels and wear long sleeves and then try. make sure you haven't stripped the nut. Also if its under pressure from the angle it also can make it hard.
@@schuylerolivier9234 yes nut is not stripped I was thinking of doing that, I was going to try next to just unbolt the tube from the manifold, and replace the tube as well, it's about 30 bucks on rock auto
What’s the trick to getting the egr tube nut freed from the egr valve? I’ve been working on mine for hours and it won’t budge. Tried PB blaster and a torch too
Had my engine light on forever. Bought scan tool for problem with another vehicle. Said P1401 code. Thanks for video. The part is expensive. Can it be clean in a solution???
It's about 45 bucks MAX.. I paid about 35.00 for mine.. I would just replace it if I were you.. I'm sure it can be cleaned but it's just gonna get back dirty pretty fast again
Did this fix the problem. I have 2002. It tries to stall on cold cranks. But when it warms up , it runs great all day. It don't stall everyday tho. It never tried to stall till I changed out my MASS AIR FLOW sensor. Never
@@schuylerolivier9234 I never had a stalling problem, idle problems, till I replace factory MAS sensor. I replaced it due to hard starting. It took 2 times to crank.
HELP! Cant get mine loose from the tube. The two 10mm were easy but that big one is STUCK. Cant get a cheater to my wrench, cant get enough torque to pop it loose. Is there a special tool I need?
No special tool... If you have a wrench with an adjustable angle that would help... They are on tight sometimes.. you can also hit it with a little liquid or WD-40..
Thanks for the video,I have a 2002 same engine and I'll be changing mine in a couple of days,I keep getting a lean bank 1 code so I made a smoker and found out my egr valve is leaking and it looks like not just the gasket and plus it seems to ping at certain RPM's and I think that's a symptom too.
@@schuylerolivier9234 ua-cam.com/video/Hq4B7ajAXWw/v-deo.html Mine is like this one here except mine is simpler,I used a paint can ,a Tiki torch wick with baby oil and for the resistor wire I used 2 cigarette lighter elements tied together and it draws about 3 amps .it makes a lot of smoke and for the air pressure I used one of those real small 12 volt bicycle compressors and regulated it down to about 1 psi and connected it with one of those 2 piece schrader valves you can get at the auto parts store,it really works good and if theirs a vacuum leak you'll find it.
Yes! Once I changed that out and completely cleaned out the the system it solved a LARGE portion of the issues. I must note that on top of doing this I also checked the vacuum line hoses coming to and from the throttle body and EGR. I found two leaks and that completely 100% fixed the problem

I am having trouble with the big nut I wish you would have shown it in your video as to how to loosen it
3:30 I start talking about how to get it off.. if your having issues try loosening the bracket first.. Its just getting your wrench back there..

I have the same engine 4.6 2001 , what's the part number for the egr valve ?
Thanks for the great video, you did a good job explaining and showing how to do it.

Does a bad egr usually cause a misfire on cylinder 3?
I have a 97 Ford 150 with a bad egr valve does this apply to my truck
I believe 97 through 2001 are all about the same.. or maybe 98 through 2001.. Either way they didn't change it very much..
thanks for the info. it should be easy for me now to do it.
Thank you...good illustration. Yup I can it
I’m looking at the video did you twist clock wise . To take it off ?? Facing the engine . I’ve been trying counter clock wise

Can a crank No start be caused by the egr??? I got spark and I got fuel on the fuel gauge 35/40 psi,

Hardest part is getting EGR bolts out. Watched many videos and no one shows that.
You didn't show how to loosen those EGR bolts. I tried everything.

That's what she said! LOL Great explanation!
😆😄😂
It's easy except the tube part it's a beast especially if it's rust welded. 2 10mm bolts and that tube that's it
PB Penetrator spray works. Had to use that after fighting with that rusted back bolt for about an hour.
It's gonna be a job just to find my 10mm 😑😣
LOL
@Riley Rayden Did we ask??
I saw egr valve in ebay for 27 bucks with free shipping after market , the original for 45 $ bucks
That's what she said lol perfect video
Cool.
I have an expedition. Cant get that nut iff worth a damn
That thing you're calling a plate is actually a gasket that's all it is
To black people gasket plate same thing lol and I'm black
I broke my bolt smh
Huh?
Thank you.
