    I personally like when artists put watermarks because sometimes I find an uncredited illustration that I really like on Pinterest or something like that and I can search the artist on their social media!

    • @Meep179
      @Meep179 5 років тому +21

      You can also search by image on google if you right click the image. It'll show on which sites the image has been posted. Maybe that'll help you find new favourite artists. ^^
      It's also a handy tool to check if your own art has been stolen and posted elsewhere.

    I have a different perspective to consider for artists who feel self-conscious and "not good enough" to share art. I personally find it enjoyable to be able to look waaaay back into the history of an artist I admire & compare their early art journey to that of their current skill level! It can be inspiring to see how messy their art was at the start yet how much they've improved since then. It's also fun to see the type of ideas and ways their life was affecting their art at that point in their art journey & maybe the type of artistic styles and themes they used to prefer that has now changed.
    It may be difficult but having the courage to share during your early stages may help you find friends, learn faster or help inspire new artists in the future & even now if they see how motivated and persistent you are at improving or at enjoying yourself and doing your best to express what you wish to share.

      I agree with you 100%. I started posting on insta way back when I wasn't so good and now that I'm improving and gaining more followers (I still don't have alot) I've had people point that out, how they like seeing how I'm improving, how the art from even two months ago is so different from what I'm making now, and even if you don't have a lot of followers still post. i only have 110 followers but I was offered $250 for a painting not too long ago (I abviously sold it lol).

    I just thought I'd point something out about watermarks that someone had mentioned to me a while ago;
    while a lot of people can figure out how to get rid of them to steal your art, _most_ people will simply repost it and are too lazy to edit it, as well as too lazy to credit you.
    So, it's best to mark it, that way people who like it can still find your actual account. ^-^

    • @tonymaries1652
      @tonymaries1652 3 роки тому +1

      I have a small fox meme plus Facebook and Insta logos in a top corner plus my name, the title of the picture and copyright in a bottom corner. Small enough that they do not detract from the picture but large enough to make life difficult for anyone wanting to steal my art. Also I restrict the resolution. A full size scan of my work is over 14000 pixels, I reduce this to 1333 x 1000. Enough to make the picture look quite reasonable for your personal use if you print it to A5 or so (about 200 dpi) but a long way short of professional repro quality.
      If I want to repost someone else's work I ALWAYS credit them. So far I have found most people very happy if you ask their permission. They have usually been happy if you ask them if they are OK about me using their photo as a basis for my original artwork. Obviously I credit them when I post online.

    I've really leaned into watching your videos lately. You're very good about being peaceful and serene about artistic processes. I've learned a lot about freely sketching so far.
    This is a topic I've been struggling with lately. When I started learning how to draw, I started posting on IG right away and was not concerned too much about quality as I knew I would get better over time. It was semi-frequent but after I joined the subbreddit sketchdaily, I started posting almost everyday. Even took on some monthly challenges.
    Well I burnt myself out 🔥 and while I continue to draw pretty much daily, I find it exhausting to share any of it. Even struggling w/ what to keep unshared and what to share. So now I don't post at all. I think it would be good to post/share semi-frequent like you said (twice a wk maybe) but I get all anxious and exhausted just thinking about taking pictures, writing the post, editing, etc.
    What do you think about social media burnout/simplifying posting? From the video, it seems like you don't like to spend too much time on it either.

    The thing that sucks about Instagram is that it lowers the quality of my photos and as someone who always does Digital art this is more annoying then it should be. I have thought about zooming in on certain parts but when I do so it lowers the quality even more. I hate it and have tried making bigger pieces as it helps to keep the quality normal, or okay. But it’s still quite difficult when I make a smaller art piece. But other then that even when I do digital art I have been thinking of posting more traditional art so this is a helpful video c:

Also did you know your i-pad may have a "square" photo feature! I've been using that rather than cropping rectangular shots after phtographing. I just take the original 'cropped' as a square! Yeah I have heard that once a day is ideal for Instagram. I've been doing twitter once a day since I recently got that. I do UA-cam videos once per week as well. This seems to be what I can keep up with without overworking or overstressing. More than once a day would be too much for me anyways.

    I was posting every Saturday for a good while, but then I couldn't keep up with it because I work too much and don't really have the time to draw or sketch. It's wild how much of a strategy game it is to try and get more people to see your work. What days are best, what times to post are best, what hashtags do I use? But I've come to realise it might actually be smarter to build up a little bit of a collection of works before posting consistently again. Also, do you have your insta set up as a business profile or a normal one? That affects how much the algorithm favours you too, right?

    I don't mean to ask advice about something that is a little off subject from this video but I have watched your videos and can see that you have good knowledge on illustration software for the computer.
    I tried doing a method to create an illustration book and it didn't align my illustrations properly. I keep on having alot of trouble doing that with the formatting and I have tried several different techniques.
    I made my illustrations on clip studio paint and I just want to arrange them in order to make my book but as much as I try to resize them properly to fit inside of the margins like they're supposed to they won't. I'm not sure what I am doing wrong?
    my dimensions of the book will be 11in x 8in

    one nitpick: don't save art that's been edited digitally/digital art as JPG's. it butchers the quality, so it's better to save them as PNG's.

    Sometimes I would get a little envious looking at some great art and drawings, but sometimes I get inspired to create more drawings and trying to improve everyday, If you're wondering my account name is @Dassomeart, Feel free to judge my drawings, I know it's bad, but i'll take harsh comments as a way to improve

    do you not sign your art? the dragon you showed makes me really worried since it doesnt seemed to me signed. the one thing that worries me most about posting my art is that it could be stolen. not that theres much to be done about that, but it makes me really anxious

    It's just that when I look at other artists on Twitter or instagram, their images seems complete. Drawn, colored, shaded, lighting, even a background. All I do is draw characters traditionally. Just sketched. Makes me think that I could have done more to make it more stand out or something. I dunno.

      Not to hate on anyone but there was a 12 year old who's account floated around mine on Instagram a lot and she literally only made ugly art.
      Like that was her "style" obnoxious colors and horrible line work and she had like 2,000 followers and a little hub of regulars. If she can do it, you'll be fine

      @@UncannyAura obviously put some effort in but at the end of the day social media is really just a game so don't stress out to much. I do a lot of little messy things and like stock pile to post on Instagram (miss_lissie_lamb)

    I know you said you dont really scan, but do you have any suggestions for scanning relatively large scale pieces? (I have a piece thats about 24 x 36 inch plus multiple 9x12, and I only have a scanner on my printer that's just under the 9x12 size)

    • @soda_fairy

      Scan in sections then edit them together

    • @sablemoreno5095
      @sablemoreno5095 5 років тому

      @@soda_fairy my current printer is one that has the little ridges angling up to help slide the paper off when it's done so it's a little hard to do that without creasing the orignal. Though if you know a printer, or affordable scanner that doesnt have thoss ridges that you'd recommend that would be awesome
      Plus my computer runs really slow that has the editing software on it (I'm working on fixing it) so I try not to use it too often so it wont crash
