  • The valve cover on the Miata was leaking, so what a perfect opportunity to take it off and paint it! We go through the easy steps to remove the valve cover and gasket, take it to the professional paint booth (#cardboardbox), then put it back on the car and observe how fresh it looks!

    JUST A HEADS UP , THERE'S A TIGHTENING SEQUENCE YOU HAVE TO FOLLOW TO PERVENT WARPING THE VALVE COVER ( FRONT MIDDLE, RIGHT SIDE GOING TOWARDS THE BACK. MIDDLE ONE,THEN BACK MIDDLE, THEN LEFT SIDE WORKING TOWARDS THE FRONT )

    Nice man! I'm about to tackle my leaky valve cover gasket tomorrow. I was contemplating about painting my valve cover, but after this video time to buy paint! Lets see how it comes out. Great Vid.

  • @andrewbolivar3040
    @andrewbolivar3040 3 роки тому

    I think I have to do mine again. Just did it last year which sucks.
    But the cover looks like it has ‘wetness’ leaching up from the gasket, or appears to be.
    I was extremely careful and did get the corners with instant gasket paste but from what I see I can only assume I did something wrong.
    What I did not do is drive it around for a bit and tighten the bolts even further after. I did follow the bolt pattern and tighten per spec.
    Although I love working on my Miata (fuel filter, radiator, brakes, oil, sparks, etc.), this stumped me.

    • @Clintmorel29
      @Clintmorel29 6 років тому

      I just got mine changed 6 months ago and it's leaking again but this time it's leaking down in my spark plugs which caused my car not to start at the store and had to get it towed back home. Pull up one of my plug wired and it was saturated in oil. How I figured it was that cuz it did start for a second but Idoled like shit and then it killed. So I'm changing it myself this time. Any suggestions?

  • @BluTrollPro
    @BluTrollPro 7 років тому

    Just an FYI.
    That is a very common spot for the cam cover gasket to leak from, a consequence of which is that it can cause oil to drip onto the coolant return pipe which runs under the exhaust manifold, the hot oil can bugger the seal on this pipe causing a very difficult to find leak (it tends to spray directly onto the mani)

I've watched videos and it seems like no one puts it on both the valve cover and the engine. It's usually one or the other. Thanks! Great video. Did you have any issues after doing this? I also replaced the valve gasket on my NA and driving it the first time was fine but the second time i heard what sound like sparking from the spark plugs in the back but it went away as it was heating up so i didnt give it much thought. After I was driving for about 5 minutes i lost almost all power and was putting out a lot of smoke and the car wouldnt idle on its own meaning i had to keep giving it gas to stay running but it sounded so so bad. The engine still turns but sounds really bad when it runs for the 2 seconds it can before dying again. I could smell coolant, oil, and gas so i know its not good. I am confused what i did wrong because i used rubber gasket sealant on all the curved corners and the gasket was seated properly in the cover. Do you or anyone have any ideas? Right now I am afraid to touch the car and will likely get it professionally checked out.

    • @Garagetopics
      @Garagetopics  7 років тому

      +SaxdudeGCGT na doing the valve cover should not cause any issues. Only thing I can think of is the cam timing is at the back of the valve cover, but you would have had to unscrew that piece seperately. Better get it checked out man, sounds like a seperate issue.
