One of Haydn's early symphonies that should get more airing. The cello solo work alone would justify it. The composer often wrote extensive solos in his earlier symphonies, wishing to show off the ensemble's individual musicians to his patron. Movement two is almost a mini-concerto, evoking Haydn's two full concertos for that instrument. While not a guest performer, an orchestra's principal cellist would have every right to ask for bonus pay. And that's just one movement. The whole symphony is a joy to hear.
Splendid performance of this exceptional beautiful Haydn symphony with that marvelous second movement, the cello solo is breathtaking beautiful. I also liked very much the magnificent black and white photographs of the performers. Thank You !
A great performance of the slow movement, but the conductor should have asked the continuo to shut up. Haydn's layout is so clear: the melody with the cello, and the harmonies with the orchestra. What ruins that structure is a babbling fortepiano that tries to adorn the cello, which is something that the cello is doing much better by itself. My vote is for Christoph Dangel and Giovanni Antonini who have understood that.
Freundliche Grüße an Mozart-Liebhaber!

Splendid. In the solo and ensemble playing, nothing but a delight.

Comparing Mozart and Haydn is as pointless as comparing red and blue.

Grazie!
In che senso non in stile Haydn?...
