An underrated series and one that holds up to this day. Even the "black sheep" Suikoden 4 is still a solid game in the franchise. I personally started with Suikoden 3 (friend bought it on a whim) and got sucked into the franchise. I loved how it showed different sides of the conflict, and looking back after playing 1 and 2, gave us good sendoffs for multiple characters from the previous entries.
You forgot to mention Suikoden Card Stories for GBA. And I am working on a english fan translation of Suikoden Woven Web of the century Tsumugareshi Hyakunen no Toki. Translated scenes soon to be out wish me luck
The first is still my favorite. I like the length and the scope of the journey despite how short it is. Great replay value because of the length. Not to mention you can choose to power up different characters in replays.
I bought Suikoden 5 just a few days ago and already started to play it, i got really lucky because someone sold it for only 30 bucks on ebay and on top the copy is in really perfect condition barely used with manual and everything. In europe you still can luck out with this game sometimes on ebay and find a copy for a good price but in north america its price is astronomical

One of the best role-playing games I've ever played, I loved all the games, but especially Suikoden IV, I don't know why it was not well received, despite being only a fight with 4 companions, it is difficult to choose which character to play, thank God it has a light at the end of the tunnel "Eiyuden Chronicle" :)
I started playing this series after hearing the comparisons to trails (in terms of world building),and it really was an underrated series that more people should play
Will get to this franchise. Still busy with my Yakuza marathon (order: 0-6, Fist of The North Star, Judgment, Like a Dragon, Lost Judgment). Have finished Yakuza Zero with 170 hours (my favorite game ever) and I am halfway with Kiwami 1 now.
Generally, I think start with the release order is the best way to enjoy this series, this is the "intended experience". They were made that way for a reason. Anyway, so glad my favorite series since I was a kid become more and more popular.
@@geralt7144 Yup, it's real. Konami just announced it the other day at their Tokyo Game Show panel. They'll be releasing an HD Remaster of I & II as a package deal on PS4/5, Xbox One, Switch, and Steam sometime next year. It looks like they even brought back the original character designer (Junko Kawano, who is now working at Rabbit & Bear Studios on Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes) to remake some of the art assets like character portraits.
Definitely agree that 3 was the hardest one to get into. After having played the first 2 for years, when 3 dropped I'm sure if I didn't love the series already I'd have given up on it. Playing it from release date is the best way IMHO, main series only personally. Tactics was alright and the DS version was just sad. They're not hard games, not in the slightest but that's the charm. The series isn't about the challenge, hell, you can mess up so many times along the way and still be fine. The joy you feel when you get that 108 star, perfect ending, it's wonderful....still haven't gotten it for 2 as I keep messing up that 1 crucial part.

It’s a shame about this series, especially with many of the intriguing plot lines left unanswered. Hikusaak, Yuber + Pesemerga, Jeane, Viki, the Sindars. Hoping Eiyuden can capture the magic and set a new exciting course.
I wanted to see Hikusaaks storyline and how the final showdown with Harmonia would go. I miss the fun and excitement of a new suikoden. Luckily we're getting Eiyuden Chronicles (spelling?). ❤
My favorite is 5. I'd play it more, but my disc has a hairline crack right in the center that extends outward. It still works, but I dont want to break it.
Ive played all of them I don't have any issues with graphics, stories contents etc. the only thing i care is that they are all connected, i just hope that Konami will start to revived the series, and start of as big comeback the Suikoden VI, i hope they gonna reveal the rune of change, continue the story of the 27 true runes.
the black sheep of the family for me is a good game plus it supports component cable for higher resolution......the only downside is only 4 characters are available in battle,,,its hard to choose who will be your party...and i always wanted to do a party where the Hero is surrounded by woman/girls in his adventure....its like a HAREM in Suikoden...
How about Tierkreis? the world of Tierkreis and Tsumugareshi Hyakunen no Toki are actually part of Million Worlds mentioned a few times in the mainline Suikoden series.
Yes. You need to play 1 to go to 2. Suikoden 1 mentions Suikoden 2 county/continent. Plus you need to have final save file ( Final boss) and transfer to Suikoden 2
Suikoden 4 drove me nuts with the battle loading times; walk for 10 seconds, battle loading screen for 30-40 seconds, 20 seconds battle, repeat. The environments were also pretty spartan and empty of detail which felt like a step back from the visually stunning 3rd game, its a shame as it was a great setting and I was really looking forward to it. 5 though fundamentally same engine had far better optimisation but the story didnt really grab me, the whole aunt becoming a villain not because she believed in what she was doing but because she thought one of the family had to do it so she would shoulder the burden. My ranking of the best games is 2nd, 3rd, 1st, 5th, 4th.

Thanks for this video. Does anyone here know how connected the Star Ocean games are? I’ve been wanting to get into those but I was wondering if playing them out of order would mess me up with the overall story. Or are they so loosely connected that I can play them however and be just fine? I know the order, but could I skip a game and be fine?
Star Ocean 1 and 2 are connected in a way ( spoiler reasons) chronological order is 4, 1, 2, 5, 3 . Play in release order. Star Ocean the Second Story is widely considered the best, but playing that one could ruin the rest for you. Till the End of Time is a very strong one too. The stories aren't necessarily connected, but they do take place in different parts of one same timeline, so there are references here and there. In SO5 there is a certain character who relates to character from SO1/2.
The continuity from one to the next seems to fluctuate a great deal. There are many very obvious references to other characters or events and there are also very subtle references that you may not even pick up on in a single playthrough or until you've played the title whose characters and events are being referenced. I would highly recommend looking up a preferred play order as the chronological release date of the games doesn't coincide with the chronological flow of events in-game. Be prepared for the long haul as these games are packed with content so 100+ hours per is quite possibly the minimum unless you're just looking to beat the main story and move on.
Does this series have a cover of a pretty goat-girl (I think) with ram-horns cradling a knight (I think), staring forlornly at the observer? I have been looking for a JRPG with only the cover as I just described as all to go on. Does anyone have any idea of the game i'm talking about? I think was on ps3 or xbox 360.

you know, with the recent announcement of suikoden 1&2 remaster, im kinda hoping 4 gets the remaster treatment with some much needed quality of life updates, like faster ship movement and sped up combat, 4 is great, just a slog to get through
This is one tricky series to suggest as these are in a same universe and relate with each other. The Tales of series is much easier to suggest but the worst one is the Legend of Heroes...ughh if you start right now it will take years to catch up avoiding burnout...
If you want to full dosis:
Suikoden 2.
If you are a little patient:
Suikoden 1.
This is funny, I just purchased Suikoden 5 because I had heard how good it is. Thank god the PAL version is not super overpriced, unfortunately 1 and 2 are.
you can get suikoden 5 on emulator as well
I wish they port / remaster all of this to PS5 and beyond
Well at least 1 and 2 would have a remaster
close to 60k
Dios, regalame el 3
Genso Suikoden has a nenglish patch, it is not the best one it has done using google translate but it let you play it understanding everything
First!
