You really did give this MRE it's justice, Oldsmokey. Corned Beef Hash is truly one of the best menus ever produced - it's a shame it was discontinued over 20 years ago now. Loved all the details and snippets of facts you provide (and nice spoon tune!). It really adds to the experience - and so satisfying how you finished that whole meal. Bravo!
Thank ya bro. This was definitely the best military food even comparing today's rations that I've ever had. Maybe it's just exactly my type of food idk. But I played around alot with the editing on this one.
Steve1989MREInfo I AM NOT WORTHY I AM NOT WORTHY!
Thanks to both of you!
nice!
You guys are awesome! Thx for the videos!
It amazes me how food can stay fresh for so long just by packing it in a vacuum sealed pouch. I might try packing myself in vacuum sealed pouch.
That will definitely help preserve it. But the food in mres is heavy with preservitives, and the retort pouches really are a miracle of food science that super extends the life of whatever is inside. Air and moisture are what make our regular food go bad so quickly.
We have a lot of the same US items in our MRE's here in the UK and many EU countries. Though I think it is true the EU is a lot more strict than the US when it comes to food laws.
Especially for Halal now........
For your *girlfriend RIGHT???*
That particular ration was either a hate it or love it ration. I liked it personally since I grew up on hash. If you add some garlic powder, red pepper flake and powdered onion with the hot sauce....sublime. Cheers!
+gundog4314
It's now my favorite mre hands down with the chicken and rice in second place. I like to add some cayenne pepper to the chicken and rice and that's all it needs to make it on point for me. I'll say it seemed like this particular batch of corned beef hash was either really well seasoned or it aged very, very well. I'm not sure as I never had a fresh one but it was very flavorful. Even the tabasco made a pleasant addition to the main. Usually I use it to drowned out a bad main but it worked well with this one. Thanks for watching I really enjoyed filming and eating this one. Hope ya liked the video.....Later.
Do soldiers in the field carry those spices or are you talking about eating them at home?
I carried mine in my ruck, used those half/third sized ones. Made the food soooo much better.
I know alot of guys that keep one of those 15 or 20 compartment containers, and fill them with there favorite spices. I think that'd be one thing that would be a huge lifesaver keeping everyone from getting menu fatigue.
I've never been in the military so I don't know the rules or the sort of things guys choose to carry but that sounds cool and I imagine you guys lugging a mini spice rack around would be very popular come meal time :)
A Steve1989MRE and an Oldsmokey video in one day! Awesome!

I wish Steve was here too. That'd be pretty..... Nice!
I asked him if he'd check it out so hopefully he will be haha.
He commented the other day. If you comment on his comment he will see it I'm sure.
Fantastic review and really enjoyed the way you did it. Good to see you didn't want any of it and enjoyed it so much. Can't believe how good it held up. Cheers mate
Thank ya man. I wanted to try something a bit different this time. I think it turned out decent. Appreciate ya watchin....Later.
Great job on this review!!! I've seen most of your videos and this by far is my favorite one!
+Roger Holt
Thanks man. This is by far my favorite video that I've done so far too. I put alot of thought and time into doing this one.
I'll have the link for stickyfingaz745 T-Shirts in just a few minutes. Sorry I forgot to add the links before I published the video. Total goof on my part.
All of the sharing and collaboration is awesome to give us all these great reviews.
Yeah there's way more that happens then anyone could ever know. We try to keep each other going with good content or something the other person may wants to try. We definitely try to help each other out as much as possible.
The mre looked very good for 25 years old. Great review.
I think I ended up getting very lucky with this one. But maybe this menu just holds up really well.
WARNING! !!! Headphones users there's a crackle sound at 2:25. Sorry I tried to fix it but sadly no luck.
DUDE no sweataroonie... It's just the *SNAP CRACKLE POP OF RICE KRISPIES!!!*
these 90s and 80s mre one of my favorite mre videos of all time good man
+Tj Nickles
Awesome I hope you enjoyed this one as well as the others.
Yay! Nice to see you enjoying this! Amazing that it was still good. My fave IMP was the sausage and hash browns. Lucky for me no one else in army cadets liked it!
+Dulcie Meatheringham
Really? I've had that menu a few times and liked it just fine. I like the bacon and hash browns better. It has better sides in the imps too. I think I like almost any breakfast. Oh and yeah this mre is still my absolute favorite mre I've ever had.
Another great video old smokey!! When you tapped off the spoon it on the glass cup it sounded like music. Nice!! Happy 6000 sub's!!!
Hey thanks man. I really enjoyed making this one. It's been my favorite military food I've ever consumed.
Great video! Subbed! I'm really getting hooked on MRE reviews :)
I hear that. It's definitely easy to do. I'm glad to have ya here on the channel. Hope you hang around and keep watchin.
Now that's what I like to see brother, someone who starts AND finishes his MRE. Great review of a great menu. Thanks for sharing it Old Smokey.
I always finish them, always unless there inedible but it ads a ton of extra editing time to film and edit that part. But I must say it did add something to this video. Thanks for the kind comment and watching the video.
Waste not,want not brother...Every calorie counts :D
The russian guy did waste a perfectly good M.R.E. i remember seeing that and getting upset because you, steve, and others put great effort to making these and all he did was eat it and they zoomed in on the trash.... No info or detail on food, no detail on the texture or taste, did not present all contents laid out for you to see, or package detail. It was soo low brow for the first time i actually hit dislike and the worst part he got soooo many views for a crappy mre vid..So in short THANK YOU for this awesome video much appreciated.
I'm glad you recognize what my intentions were with this video. Basically to acknowledge the waste he's been doing. Yeah he did get tons of views for not much effort into his vids luke you said. Not cool when we actually care and pit alot of effort into our work.
s14duma I understand how you feel, and particularly when compared to the majority of the MRE community who put a lot of care and information into their reviews, he can seem quite disrespectful. However, you have to understand that he is not part of the MRE community, and not trying to be. He has a completely different audience base that he has to appeal to, which is mainly kids and teens who don't care about the details of the menus, age, packaging, or quality of the food in the MREs unfortunately. They want a quick, 'exciting' glimpse into army rations only, and would down vote him and complain that the video was boring if he made the effort to present all the packaging details and lay all the contents out individually before even getting into the food. Unfortunately it's the nature of the beast that you have to cater to what your audience wants on here to get views & subs.
I agree his lack of effort in even finding out what the food is or providing any info on the taste & texture of it is particularly frustrating, and as a food reviewer myself I cannot watch his military reviews for this reason. However, even Emmymadeinjapan who seems to be well regarded for her MRE review series, does not eat more than a bite or two of each item, and could be seen as wasteful and disrespectful if eating all the food is the basis for deciding whether a reviewer is respectful or not. Emmy is one of the best in the MRE community at providing detailed descriptions of the taste and texture of the food, and puts a lot of effort into doing so, but conversely does little pre-research, and goes into barely any detail on the packaging, age, or history of the specific ration she has been gifted to review. Her audience expects the food specifically to be tasted & reviewed and nothing more, so again, fair enough.
I think it is good that there are people on UA-cam that take different approaches to ration reviews. I would have never seen MREs in the first place, nor gained a deeper interest into rations and subscribed to people like Gundog, Gschultz9 and Oldsmokey if I hadn't first seen them on platforms like Crazyrussianhacker and Emmy.
Hey, just to give more insight since I am myself a CrazyRussianHacker watcher (that I assume is the russian guy you are referring to)
I am not into MRE things, or to be more specific, it is only casual. I am not actively interested in them but i am curious on what an MRE contents.
Note that I am an adult (millenial) and am not sure most of CRH viewers are actually as young as you'd imagine? I'm not sure this type of content appeals to younger lads.
What I like about CRH videos is how entertaining they are from his accent, way to talk, pace and editing style. I love that the focus on his videos is him rather than the MRE. I like to see him open them and eat them constantly in front of the camera. Really it's obviously meant for another type of viewers, which I am part of. I think it's fine we have two types of crowd.
Though i'm gonna add i'm not a fan of wasting food but I understand that CRH would be reluctant to eat 25 year old food. (Is it actually safe to eat?) i would have wished he would entire the other (less than 10y/o) MRE however.
I am not interest in "actual" mre reviewing videos because i watch youtube for entertainment rather than pure information (though we can argue the latter can include the former). Most MRE videos just like this one focus on the MRE itself and it is not my main interest. I tend to watch youtube mostly for personal content from users and the more someone is involved the more i like, depending on the media. (Since animation doesn't really involve the creator himself in the video)
So yes, i prefer watching CRH's MRE because they are more entertaining (i mean, for me, obviously it's subjective) and I like to watch himself being the main focus because I like him more than MREs.
I hope that helps understanding why some people would rather watch CRH than other MRE types of video such as this one. They're just not aiming for the same audience :)
(Note also that I would have never known about MRE if it wasn't for CRH, so if i ever end up watching actual MRE focus videos - if for example i wanna see more MRE videos, since CRH don't have that much -, it would still be thanks to him :p )
Alright let's put this on to a tray......... Nice.
Great stuff as usual dude! I think it might interest you to know that you folks in the states aren't alone in enjoying corned beef hash. In Sweden it's something we do with leftover meat and potatoes from Easter dinner.
+Maximilian Von Spee
I'm definitely a fan of corned beef hash. But the one in this mre was bettet than any other I've ever had.
Hi, got here from Daves45Auto, excellent review of an MRE that I would love to have. Corned Beef Hash is one of my favorite breakfast meals. Like you said, too bad that they don't make these any more or any of the civilian MRE producers don't try to make them again, bet they would get thumbs up on them, thanks for a great review, miss having some of these great MREs
Back in early 97 when I first joined, it was my first MRE. To this day, I loved it alot.
+bluehavencd
I would imagine ill feel the same way years from now. I believe I could eat this meal on a very regular basis and not get sick of it.
My father was a marine recruiter for 20 years first MREs I was ever exposed to was the corned beef hash and beef stew and to this day they remain my two favorites
Thank you for uploading old smokey you made my day
That's awesome. Comments like yours make my day. Thank ya for watchin....Later.
Used to eat em playing paintball back in the 80/90's. This was one of the better ones right up there next to the ham slice. Never mixed the coffee and cocoa, but dipping the oatmeal cookie in the cocoa was a fun trick. Thanks for bringing back memories of a younger day.
+Ken Redington
I was happy to sample thus sucker. I want to find another one or two to have for a later date but I can't seem to find any anywhere. This is probably my favorite review I've done so far personally. Thanks for watching..... Later.
Loved it this review and I do miss this MRE.
This was fantastic man! Makes me beyond excited to eventually get my first brown bag MRE in the near future.
Your going to be in good shape being that your first brown bag is coming from a lot of very, very well preserved cases. I wasn't so lucky taking on my first brown bag. There usually a crap shoot honestly. I've gotten lucky a few times that's for sure. Hopefully your brown bag is as good as u think it will be.
oldsmokey I try to keep my hopes not too high.... then you don't get too disappointed. Like my vintage LRP review. Hahaha
Yeah I never expected that thing to be bad. Although I've had bad vintage lrp's myself. I didn't even bother uploading those films. Not worth my time and effort after I watched the footage.
oldsmokey If I had any more of those LRP's I would have canned the review but since it's my only one I thought it was just as well to put it up just for the novelty.
Ol’ Smokey you da best!
Thanks for the education
and entertainment.
oldsmokey you sir have just received a new sub, I enjoyed your video an loved the fact that you didn't waste it. keep being awesome an making awesome videos :)
Thanks so much Jeff I appreciate every single subscriber that I have and I'm glad to have you on board.
Nice video man. I’m glad it all held up for you.
+Daves45auto
What a fun and awesome mre. I've got something cool for you next time I see you. I ended up with extra omelet with ham 1992 if you'd want to try it. One thing is it has the old school oatmeal cookie bar in it which as you seen is my favorite mre dessert. It's one of those things that should still be available in mres jusat like the fruit. Hope your doing good dude.
Great review Smokey!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That video edit with the music was awesome! Well done!
Idk how I missed your comment. I really liked this video myself even. I want to find ways to add some music like that in more videos. Sorry I'm so late on the reply.
Ha ha Smokey you know I say busy with my comedy! Please get in touch with me if you need help with video editing!
I appreciate that. Hope your comedy is doing good.
Great review im loving it. I love corned beef hash so i bet it was so good;) glad to see a new video:)
Its my pleasure to help sweetie. Love to see more people join it cuz these reviews are amazing:)
I'll tell ya the corned beef hash in the old mres isn't like any other corned beef hash I've ever had. Maybe it's where it's aged but I think there formula was just perfect for my taste. Honestly it was the best MRE I've ever had. It's going to be hard to top this one. I really appreciate your support, comments, and watching my videos.
It looked really good now i got to get some. Makes you wish you could find the recipes. And those oatmeal bars you guys like. I should try to find some somewhere. :) you are so welcome. I really enjoy watching them and you got my support for sure :)
My father was a supply Sgt for the guards, of all the rations us kids got to try, this one was by far my favorite! As a kid, pears, tootsie rolls, hot chocolate, hash, we would play outside all day and lunch was a surprise mre.
Good video man, I enjoyed how you ended up using the music!
I'm glad you liked it. I've been trying to figure out a good way to incorporate that tune into one of my vids for a long time now. I was happy to finally get to use it.
Got to love Corned Beef Hash. Great review OS
I know I love the Corned Beef Hash that's for sure.
Eat that MRE like a boss for sure my bearded brother!! Great review!!
I meant to put in there that I was inspired to say that by another UA-camr called L.A.Beast. I really enjoy watching him. Thanks for watching and commenting....Later.
Doug, I am going to send you a Classic, but you have to eat it with a frozen beard!
Great video as always smokey, keep em coming.
+Vaux_Wolf
Thank you, will do Vaux_Wolf .
We were redoing my grandmothers kitchen and found bottles Ne-hi soda. She said they had to be from the sixties. The grape was good a little flat. The orange was freaking awesome. The bottle of corn whisky we found was the best. SMOOOOOTH
Wow that's awesome ya'll found that and got to try it. I'm going to see about getting a couple old sodas or something to add to a review sometime here soon.
Great review oldsmokey! Hope you're having a great one.
You too. Thank you.
Awesome, nice to have such a well preserved ration. OMG Apple Jelly that stuff is rare. Yup you gotta make the army mochachino. Yes but with how well preserved this ration is I bet if it had the red taster's choice coffee it would be good still too. Wow this ration is looking like it was made just yesterday. That main looks amazingly delicious. What an amazing meal thanks for the review.
I honestly had no idea this thing would be in such good shape. I don't think anyone took special care of it or anything it just held up amazingly. I 100% enjoyed this entire meal. Maybe it's just my type of food but my goodness it was good.
Kahlest Enoch : That is how I learned to drink coffee at Reforger in Germany back in 1983. Cold, freezing weather and we mixed cocoa and freeze dried coffee. I make it every morning, now. Just with the fancy stuff.
I don't normally watch anyone else's reviews but steves hahaha but this was 👍🏻👍🏻 I liked it and I'll definitely subscribe and I'm glad you didn't slice your finger there opening that thing 😬
Definitely glad to have you here on the channel Hawkeye. Thank you for watching and commenting. I'm glad you enjoyed my video and I can be in the same category as Steve. Me and Steve are really good friends so I like it when we have people watching both our videos.
That's awesome I sent steve1989 4 1982 mre a few months back for review I can wait to see his review on them that way i can get and ideal on weather there any good or not lol great video and God bless you my friend
Great vid. Its ones like this that definately make you feel your age. Dad used to bring these home from commissary for us kids. And now they're vintage. Lmao
Yup. I'm vintage at this point..... Unfortunately.
@@Oldsmokey1 feelin the same. But thank you for bringing back good memories.
Good review :-) thank you Smokey x
No problem, I really enjoyed making this one.
Thank you Sir! Well done, with a great review looked tasty! Well the Kids and I have been a Steve1989 fan for some time now however, we are now subscribers to your channel thank you very much for your review. Now I know this is an older video but now my Sons have a second favorite channel to watch! My Sons are learning about the many varieties MRE'S older years vs the ones they get today to which there reply was "things sure seemed better way back in your day Dad. Why didn't you save any MRE'S for us Dad"? Haha... well Again Thank You for your Review we look Forward to watching more of Your Videos.
Great...you got a 25 year old ration where the Taster's Choice is just fine.... I get a case of 13 yo rations, and none was drinkable.... Guess MRE's are a bit of a lottery. My dad always got corned beef when he was in the army, so needless to say I grew up with ....corned beef, I even feed it to my daughter and She loves it ( survival training starts at an early age :-)
Haha luck girl. Hope she likes the corned beef as much as I do. Sorry to hear about your case being no good but if it was the red Tasters choice packets those are rarely good. Once in a blue moon there ok but not very often. Older MREs condition 100 percent depends on there previous storage conditions. Hopefully everything except the coffee wad still ok for you. Anyways thanks for watching and commenting....Later.
So far all the menu's are ok, the tabasco though is a hit and miss, but I just drip in some vinegar and give it a bit of a soak & shake, and all is well again. And yeah, She likes corned beef a lot. I even use it in pasta sauce and....even the Wife likes it :-)
I'm actually happy to see you finished the MRE meal!
I always do if possible just not on camera. It takes so much extra time to film and edit eating the whole thing on camera. I'm a slow eater...always have been. I appreciate your watching and commenting....Later.
oldsmokey Thanks Olsmokey!!! Glad to hear it!
Nice review oldsmokey, this was my one of my favorite MREs when I served
+hg321
I can't imagine to many people not liking this one if they can get past how it looks. I mean I know it looks like cat food but man does it taste good. Thanks for checking out the video. I really appreciate your comment and watching....Later.
hg321 : That tootsie roll looked GOOD! Same for the Tabasco sauce, nice and loose in the bottle!
They both were in excellent condition Joseph. I got super lucky with this one. Glad to hear that you subbed. Happy to have you here on the channel....Later.
This would be a great menu to bring back into production. It's really cool how long these MRE's can last when they are stored in good conditions.
I agree. If they brought this back it would be a hit I'm pretty sure.
another good review my favorite
My kids biggest treat when we go camping is MRE's.
i miss the old mre meals and i have to agree the oatmeal cookie bar was something that i use to always look forward to when i would get a mre. it sucks that they took em out. and the cornbeef hash meal is good one of my fav as well.
They should re make this exact menu today and see what the troops think of it.
I like that you did the close up too
+Hawkeye Pierce
I forgot to do it on the one I just filmed. I totally meant to.
I remember having this MRE when my dad re-enlisted with the National Guard, to finish his time with the US Army and loved it. He brought home a case of MRE's after his summer 2 week period. He warned me about the "vomlette" which I ignored, thinking he just wanted it for himself. Dear god the HORROR!
Awesome review hopefully a lot more comming
+Steve Lender
Thank you. Getting ready to try to do some filming today.
Bbq pork with rice was the best mre I ever got in the field. Every once in a while they would toss us some old stock to use up while in Lejeune.
I've still not tried that menu yet. But I think I have one that's still good and edible.
Awesome Review , I enjoyed it & thanks for sharing :))))) Like a boss !!!
Haha this is still my favorite video I've made.
+Alexandra P.
Still my favorite video filmed to this day.
Hey smokey,
New subscriber here. I discovered Steve's channel first a while back, and then found yours and BTemple's a few days ago. I admit that I was mainly interested in Steve's oldest (WW2/Korea) rations at first, but recently I've started looking at the newer ones as a point of comparison. They sadly seem to have greatly declined over the years; I am not sure why.
I'm a civilian, but I've still never really had a truly permanent residence, so I've always had a strong interest in the military ability to make camp or temporary accomodation somewhere, and also in food which has long storage life, and can be eaten, prepared, and consumed very quickly if need be.
I am hoping to one day get a vacuum sealer and can sealer appliances, and maybe take a stab at producing something similar to these myself, since there are sites which sell home canning gear, and mylar bags on Ebay. Do you have any experience making them yourself?
Sounds like your on the path to be making your own mres.
Good job man.. done made a big boy hungry
+Marco Polo
This would make a skinny boy hungry haha. Absolutely one of the best mre's I've had to date. I've not had them all but I've had alot and this 25 year old food was better than most new food from mre's I've eaten.
this was a great find!!!
I think I must have gotten pretty lucky. I'm so glad it turned out to be so edible or my plan for the video would have went to crap.
John Wayne paper -- chock full of True Grit!
Rough, tough, and don't take no s#*÷ off of nobody. Haha.
Awesome brother!!!
Thank ya Daniel.
Very cool ration. We got a Tabasco in a recent ration that looked good. It looked quite a bit lie that one of yours but was much newer.
What an excellent ration.
Yeah this tabasco looked really good for being from 1992. Typically it's about 4 shades darker.
oldsmokey Eaten like a true soldier 😏. Looks like an awesome entree. You talk with a lot of confidence and authority now.
One word describes this mre and main. ..Amazing!!!!
I knew a guy who would always mix the jelly with the hash...tuna with noodles was my favorite from that menu +++
That's definitely an odd combination haha. The tuna with noodles is a menu that I haven't even been able to find. I saw one for sale but I couldn't afford to get them and I passed the deal onto Steve like 2 weeks ago. So basically I had to pass up the first tuna with noodles mre I've ever seen for sale. Hopefully I'll get to try one some time. I hope to try all the 90s era menus at some point. Thanks for watching and telling me about your buddies recipe and your favorite mre....Later.
For a minute there I thought you were going to make RANGER PUDDING!
Love this
Why did you add the coffee to the cocoa podwer? I have seen this done a lot on other videos.
Amazing review
Thank you. I put alot of work into this one and really enjoyed and liked the end result.
Totally agree the hash is awesome. ..the British did a ration with it also ...
+FlankerTanker
I'd love to try a British hash some day. How does it stack up against the U.S one? Ours was pretty darn good so it'd be hard to beat. This whole mre was awesome I seriously like ever item in it. Thanks for watching Flanker.....Later.
Dude if the military switched up the MRE menus again, id immediately dive into a new box to look for a corned beef hash MRE xD that'd be my go-to i promise.
The oatmeal cookie was my favorite thing in the MRE lol
Those things are like gold now a days. I like all the old compressed bars.
Me too as long as it's not too sweet, but those cookies taste so good
Best MRE we had in SWA during Desert Shield/Storm/Calm/Farewell.
+Itsnotpersonal
It's definitely better than any of the new menus I've had. Thanks for watching and commenting.....Later.
You do the music jingles too! Subbed!
+Marth
Awesome absolutely glad to have ya here at the channel. Hope ya hang around and keep watching.
Oldsmokey - I watch all the MRE review channels, they are so much fun.
unbelievable condition! I'm jealous you got an oatmeal bar!
If you have never had one before definitely try to get one. They are amazing. Thanks for watching and commenting.....Later.
I never saw a soft oatmeal cookie bar. They were always hard in my experience. Number 11 Chicken and Rice was my favorite. The Corned beef hash, the omelet with ham, and the spaghetti one were usually passed over. I am surprised about how well it was preserved.
Before I had the corned beef hash the chicken and rice was my favorite. It's still my favorite freeze dried mcw, or lrp. The oatmeal cookie bars I've had aren't really hard. They are very, very dense but not hard. I can't believe someone wouldn't like corned beef hash.
The freeze dried fruit, we'd put cream and sugar and water with them. Quite tasty. The biggest thing I miss are the tobasco bottles. Also, the oatmeal bars were the best.
I think maybe mixing the fruit, creamer, oatmeal cookie bar, and a little water would be pretty tasty. I'd like to try that some time but I hate to waste any of those rare gems. Thank ya for watchin.....Later.
I just bought 25 1991 rations from a guy. This was one of the rations. I am so stoked. There was only one of this menu, so....it's mine, but I have several dupes of many of the other menus. Let me know if your are interested in one.
Totally up to you my friend. Depending on how they were stored the corned beef hash should most likely be ok. It might not be as good as the one I had but them again ya never know. Sounds like you scored on those vintage mres. But it doesn't surprise me that there was only one corned beef hash. You were lucky to get that. That menu got eaten alot.
That omelette with eggs was disgusting, I used to trade them for the ham slice,or fingers of death. Spaghetti wasnt bad either.
I've really been wanting to try a spaghetti from this era soon. I actually just got one recently so hopefully I'll get to open it up sometime soon.
Definitely a favorite.
👍
I absolutely love corned beef hash , so I'd probably crush this lol
was John Wayne super non-absorbent? That makes so many things from my childhood make sense...
+strangulator42
He was rough, and tough, and he didn't take s#*÷ off of anybody. Hahaha. That's what I've always called crappie toilet paper is John Wayne paper.
Gotta respect the Duke

Awesome opossum :) :) ;) .
Had these during Basic in 97.
You'd be one of the last groups that were given this menu while it was still fresh then.
This was a great choice in my day, as long as you had plenty of pogey bait choices to go with it, which us 19K always had. The sawdust bar was really good, but the freeze dried fruit was just nasty.
Damn son, that looks good but I dunno if I have the stones to eat a MRE that old. I'd put a fried egg on top tho
Oh yeah I've thought about doung that with a main in one of the Russian irps I've got. As far as the she of the mre just gotta follow your instincts if it looks good and smells good then taste it and go from there.
Be living like a king in an underground bunker or any zombie apocalypse with walls filled the ceiling with these type of dinners stacked high, an abundance of them. Be eating and living like a king, provided you have a well protected shelter to stay safe in and pig out on MRE's. Now that's living!

I wish I could afford to get a bunch of these. I haven't seen one of this menu for less than $25 in over a year.
It's a shame they did away with the corned beef hash, it was always my favorite. Heat it up, crush one cracker up in it then add the hotsauce...mighty fine meal. Plus the oatmeal cookie bar and all of the accessories, damn it was good. That video was great, keep up the good work.
I guess the military doesn't believe in if it ain't broke, don't fix it.
+Dan Hayami
Unfortunately not. They have made some major goofs over the years. I can't imagine anyone complaining about this meal so idk why they got rid if it. This one and the chicken and rice are 2 menus I wish they would bring back.
Awesome video,just subscribed.
+Thunder Lykan
Well thank ya and glad to have ya subbed. Hope ya hang around.
Oldsmokey I will definitely keep watching, and subscribed, your videos are very informative and fun.
I remember the Top riding out to our position. Me and another guy. We had a personnel carrier with a broken heater. It sucked. F cold. Top had a couple guys from the Mess. They tossed out a T rat cake pan and a loaf of white bread. I opened it with my bayonet. It was Salisbury steaks. We ate them like sandwiches and drank the gravy. I've had Prime Rib au jus .. Nothing ever tasted as good as those mystery meats did that day.
+Snuffy Grunt
It's crazy how our taste buds change when you find out what hunger is all about. I could almost taste the Salisbury steaks as I read your story.
Can you tell me where I can get one of those vintage MRE? I would love to try one. I’ve been watching a lot of these different MRE reviews from Steve1989 and Oldsmokey. Made me want to try one. I’ve tried already some of the new MREs but would like a vintage one. But it needs to very well preserved and edible. These are amazing.
Amazing Video :)
But i was Really Surprised That You Mixed Coffee with Drinking Chocolate, Here in The Uk We Drink Coffee Either Black or with Milk or Cream, & We Drink Our Chocolate with Milk ,& if You Like Suger , Add it To Taste, But We Don't Ever Drink Coffee with Drinking Chocolate, Nop i've Never Heard of Anybody Doing That Before,
Very interesting Video, Am Looking Forward To Watching More :)
Oh yeah i've been doing that for years. I started doing it on the boat. I'd work 6hrs on 6hrs off and repeat for 21 days straight. So I drank a ton of coffee. It gets old after a while so I'd mix in hot coco to spice things up. Its really good imo you should try it some time. I like to have strong coffee so I can taste it mixed with the coco. Thanks for watching..... Later.
This menu needs to come back!
Yes it absolutely does. I wish I had at least one more of these
This is a really cool video I like your ring I got a family ring my self how do you get those old mres I love them but cannot find it
They pop up every now and again on eBay. But I got lucky with this one being as awesome as it was. I appreciate your watching and commenting....Later.
I'm new to watching these videos and I think you guy's do good. My only problem with this one is, coming from someone who had to eat it cold, the video should have been shot eating it like you would in the field. Keep up the great videos though.
+daman3609
The problem I have with that is they are 25-35 years old so I boil them in the bag to be safe. That way if it is spoiled it won't kill me only make me sick for a little bit. I love the corned beef hash though. I'd imagine hot or cold I'd like it.
25 yrs dam good show

This was one of the funnest to film and edit reviews I've done to date.
If the main bag is opened does that affect the shelf life or is it just the individual package seals that matter? I found an mre I bought and opened about 4 years ago (menu item #2, pork ribs, not sure if it's actually military issue but the main bag says DOD not for commercial sale) and I really want to try it but idk if it's gonna be safe or if I should just find another one that isn't opened? I feel like I'm just gonna have to give everything a smell test because there's quite a few items in it, it's definitely meant to last a person all day.
That's probably not too old. But yeah the outer bag being open definitely shortens the shelf life by alot.
@@Oldsmokey1 I ended up trying it with my brother this morning, the "rib shaped pork" was actually really good it tasted identical to sweet baby Ray's beef jerky that comes in a bag, the peanut butter and strawberry jam surprised me by being better than what I buy for myself at the store, and actually the only thing that we didn't eat was the cheesy potato bacon soup because judging by the smell and taste the dehydrated dairy products didn't stay good. The tortillas broke in half when I unfolded them but they tasted fine, saltier and oilier than regular ones but that would probably be because they have way more sodium and fat content than regular tortillas. I would have never guessed that the food I was eating was from 2009. Nobody is sick yet either. P.S. We both lost it when we read the instructions on the flameless heater, I'd like to buy a beer for whoever decided to label the object "ROCK OR SOMETHING" because I damn near choked on the peanut butter when I saw that.
An other amazing review!
+simonartsrecords
Thank you. I seriously appreciate that and thank you for watching....Later.
oldsmokey hey buddy, got a question for you. I just bought a case of MRE Strike Force on ebay, but i can't find any information about Strike Force. Do you have any ideas what is it? Civilain, army? Thanx!
That's a new one to me. I'll look into that and get back with you. I've never heard of them before just now. If there are more on eBay I'll go on there and look right now to see if I can see some pictures of them.
OK thx buddy!
Back when food was naturally good!!!
+Ash Martinez
Haha yeah or they just didn't list all the chemicals in the stuff. For any food to last this long means it's loaded with chemicals. Like the drinks with aspartame in them they say might cause gulf war syndrome. But I freakin loved this meal weather it was good for me or not haha. BTW thanks for watching and commenting.....Later.
This is f'n awesome.
+ATMJDM
This is my favorite video I've put together so far.
It may sound weird but I love watching videos of older MRE reviews while watching M*A*S*H lol now eating a old school MER while watching M*A*S*H that would be the $#!+ lol.
+SuperBad Videos
I like watching M*A*S*H too. I like when they are in the mess tent and seeing the old trays and stuff. Even though it was shot in CA it's still pretty cool. I need too grab a 1952 Korean War B-Unit and eat it while watching a good episode some day.
