Maybe, I'm not super fussed about the 'filled slots' look myself, but that's mainly because the trend for that was the driving factor behind people buying terrible 4x4GB RAM kits that perform terribly and are an upgrade dead-end. The dummy modules are kinda neat, but yea, not something I'm fussed about.
Great looking build. I really did like the original ying/yang style of the tai chi boards. I've got a 3080FE and haven't had any problems with noise in my case so far.
Hey Graham! I know everybody will be sceptic about this tip but it changed my total software-fan and rgb bloatware crap. I had iCUE, CAM, Armory Crate to control the rgb and fans. After some searching I found 2 apps : FanControl and OpenRGB. Some people have talked about it already on the stream on the other channel. The processes and CPU usage went down so much and all the compatibility problems you face with all the RGB software (start iCue first, then CAM, then Armory Crate otherwise the RAM would be controlled by the wrong piece of software) It does not have extremely fancy effects but have to say that they are updating regularly. FanControl on the other hand is fantastic, doesn't use a lot of resources but you can find every fan (also on controllers) and every tempsensor and customize / bind them with curves, triggers, targets, hysterisis etc. which you can all setup yourself. I went from 84 services and 5 % CPU usage (9900K) to 32 services and 0,2 % CPU usage. It got quite easy to setup all software with the latest updates. Works fantastic and gave me less stutters and / or crashes in games. Totally recommend these 2 pieces of software to control everything using a lot less resources.
Yea I use OpenRGB on the shop demo rig, it's worth a look. I don't mind a big app like CAM or iCUE so long as it's actually doing everything, as is the case with this build. I used my old NZXT controller specifically because it would unify everything into one place.
OpenRGB and my BIOS are the best. AMD Adrenalin is needed to run my GPU anyway and it lets me control GPU fan curves and much more than my garbage Novideo software ever let me do.
It's a Coolermaster MasterKeys Pro S. I like it, but it rattles a fair bit. I want to try and do a mega overhaul on it, see if I can make it sound and feel like a brand new Keychron, but it's another item on the bucket list atm.
I like my Fractal Meshify 2 (new version not the old Meshify 2"c") though originally was going to get the Meshify 2XL but decided on the 2 instead and luckily i did as this case is manageable compared to the size of the XL
I've only seen one amazing case and that was the old Mac Pro 5.1 case, that thing was an engineering marvel, of all the fads that one was a shame it didn't caught on but then again it wasn't easy to copy.
Yea I forgot to mention it in the video when I was talking about the size, but yea, it's not a cheap case. The exotic fans explain some of the cost, as well as the back and front tempered glass, but justified or not, it's still expensive.
Must be a generational thing, my generation was like that with our cars back when they could be modified and improved, and your generation does that with computers. I'm glad I didn't miss being alive in the 70s and wish I could go back to that decade. Even electronics were much more fun back then. Schematics were available on all consumer electronics and nothing was micro or unserviceable. My computer is a second-hand 4-year-old Lenovo black steel business I-5 desktop which works very well. I could not care less about modifying or messing with it so long as it works. I do clean the fan filters since it's on the floor under my desk.
wouldn't you want your rad lines on the high side to avoid low air pockets , extra work on your pump and the potential for excess noise due to air bubbling and eventually pump whine?
Hello. Does the power supply still use plugs where you push the cord between 2 sharp metal pieces? I have found that these plugs quickly create poor contact. You have relatively stiff wiring and you get quickly loose wires inside the plug and poor contact!! I have 2 pcs. Power supply with these plugs. Better to shrink on pins or sleeves on the cord
With me I can't part with my Corsair Carbide Air 540 case because it is such an amazing case because it has a separate compartment for the Power Supply and it has very good air flow as well. At the time I upgraded my 4790K rig to a 3700x I really couldn't find a case that is comparable to the Carbide Air 540 case at the time. Also with the 3080 Ti you don't have to worry about melting power cables unlike the 4090 so that is another positive about the card. I also plan on upgrading my CPU to a 5900 or 5950X.
So Caradog's new name is "The right place at rhe right time" it seems... Love the colours on that hoodie. Great build, not personally a fan of the torrent but it's a great case and it looks really good after you were done with it.
Thanks for the video Graham. I have Lian-Li AL120 fans in my case and I had to uninstall L-Connect 3 due to it (or more likely the GPU-Z it installs) causing Windows instability. Sounds like NZXT CAM is much better software. I might give the latest version of L-Connect 3 another try but I don't hold out much hope.
Just for curiosity, Where on Earth can I install an optical drive in a case like that if I needed one? I am also a massive fan of built-in card readers because I work on a lot of stuff that uses different kinds of storage cards like my DSLR, and my car camera.
Top-mount PSU chads stay winning. I like the idea of the torrent, but I can't help thinking that if the internal air volume was itself smaller, then you could replace that volume with smaller/slower/fewer fans. I just measured an mATX case from the mid-00's I have, and an R5 Define, the mATX case is 0.75cu ft, and the define is 1.75cu ft. So each fan in the smaller case is doing 2.3x the effective work in replacing the internal volume. I don't doubt the internal volume of the Torrent is even larger. Can't help but think case manufacturers are vastly over-selling those of us who just want competent airflow.
Tbh I think airflow in a PC tower is more about fan position. The main issue is dead-spots, with the graphics card being the main culprit - it's very difficult to get fresh air under the graphics card and not just have all of your intake (no matter the volume or flow rate) go straight over the top of it and out the top/rear exhaust. This is what I think cases like the Torrent solve, by having a dedicated bottom intake for the GPU. The catch is that the PC needs to be on a desk to avoid the 'bottom intake sucks up all the crud off of the floor' issue that kills PSUs.
I like your desk, it has quite a bit of room for dual monitors and your tower, could you provide a link to where you might have gotten it? I'm using a dinner table as a makeshift desk, it works, I would just rather have an actual desk to sit at lol. Your monitors are really nice as well, are those Acer monitors by chance? I also noticed that you use Logitech speakers, are those decent quality as far as sound goes?
Cheers, desk is a 2m length of 40mm thick, 600mm deep kitchen counter top, supported by 18mm MDF sheet wood. It's surprisingly solid considering how jank it is. Monitors are Asus VG27AQ, they're good, but not very bright once you've got 165Hz with backlight strobing turned on. Perfectly fine as long as the sun isn't shining on them. Speakers are a really old set of Logitech 5.1 surround jobbies... They sound ok, I mainly use them because I'm not sure what to replace them with, more often than not I'm using a headset anyway for voice chat.
I'm still rocking the launch Meshify C. She's showing some age at this point but I just love the look and while the double front filter is certainly overkill I have 0 dust issues in the case. Likely hurts my temps a bit but man, it's crazy opening up the case and seeing 0 new dust accumulation after months of running near 24/7.
Thanks for the video, it answered a question for me - should I replace my cool running, air-cooled 5600X with the now inexplicably cheap 5800X heat factory? I think that is a solid no
For gaming, I wouldn't bother. My video editing workflow is very CPU-bound (old software) so I need the extra cores and clock speed, but for gaming you're going to be mostly GPU-bound. Either wait another generation (Ryzen 8000?) or buy a 5800x3D when they drop in price. They're still a bit too expensive to be attractive to me.
@@Adamant_IT Thanks, my idea of gaming is Geoguessr or Sporcle or very occasionally some F1. It runs VS Code more than fast enough. I was just getting that upgrade itch and I see there is just no point.
Temperatures don't matter on Zen 3 and above, stop it people. AMD clearly designed these things to redline. Also it's not a heat factory unless the wattage is significantly higher which it isn't. CPU can be 95C and if the wattage is the same as any other 105W Ryzen part, then it's not producing any more additional heat.
@@crylune So am I to understand that these processors are made out of some exotic material that has no melting point? Seriously though regardless of anything else the heat doesn't come from nowhere, with the price of electricity these days I will stick with my cool 5600X. P.S. if you want to be taken seriously, don't say things like "Stop it people", makes you sound like a jerk.
Love how graham used to say "1000w is stupid, no one needs that, i have a 1000w antec literally only so I don't sell it" and now uses a 1000w unit himself (I presume because of the increase in component wattage).
Yea, that old video hasn't aged well, but also I think the modern PSU requirements are absurd. But also this is why I undervolt. I shouldn't need to run 500watts sustained load to play video games.
@@Adamant_IT I've got a 3080 Ti as well, and I love it, but sometimes when I'm tinkering with voltage and clocks it hits me how many hundreds of watts I'm throwing at simple gaming. It's the FTW3 model too, so that thing will do 400 watts stock, or 450 watts with a simple slider adjustment if you're inclined. (I flashed a bios and saw 550+ watts once or twice for some quick tests, but that's besides the point.)
Similar thoughts when I managed to bag a 3070Ti FE for msrp. Even owning many other cards from new over the years, this one is just special - even down to the packaging. The Ti's certainly benefit from undervolting - NVidia seemed to be a bit lazy in that re the power curves. Boasting about high energy usage doesn't float these days lol.
is there any setting in bios you need to change to run the 2 m.w off the mb? when I tried the pc would bluescreen after 30 min or so then the boot m.2 would be seem in bios. running a pcie card for both m.2 so not really making the most of pcie 5.0
Nope, I've had no issues running two M.2 SSDs. If you've run into trouble though, might be worth trying a BIOS update as well, just in case that changes how the board handles PCI-E lane detection.
I really dont like having the AiO on the front of the case because your blowing warmed air from the radiator into the case, ive got mine to exhaust out the top since heat rises.
With tower coolers is it better to have two fans (pulling and pushing, either side of the tower) or is it just diminishing returns in terms of temp difference?
Most of the performance of a CPU cooler is in extracting the heat from the chip, rather than dissipating it, especially in gaming loads - so while push pull is technically better, the difference it usually negligible. I'd go single-fan, unless the cooler is specifically designed for two-fans and loosing one makes it look weird and unbalanced.
I have to admit I'm a little disappointed you didn't fix that PSU coil whine - I haven't seen anybody diagnose which component, and try to replace it. If you are looking for new videos to do I'd love to see you have a stab at that.
I have been considering rebuilding in this case moving from my Fractal Define R6 with a 360 AIO in the roof of the case. What concerns me about the Torrent, is drive space and radiator space. Apart from a couple of onboard Nvme drives, I have 2 SATA SSDs and one 6TB HDD archive drive, can I get them all in? More importantly, with a top PSU, and the layout that is used in this video, can 360 rad be fitted behind the front fans WITHOUT interfering with the 2 180 fans in the base of the case? It looks a bit tight to me ......... EDIT: Actually looking at the video again, it looks like a 360 will fit, with the inlet/outlet of the loop at the top (which is good, higher than the pump), but with a little bit of restricted airflow at the bottom due to the base fans. Mmmm, I will have to think about it.
Yea, 360 will fit as you've observed. You'll loose a little off the bottom, but I don't think it'll make a meaningful difference. Drives will be the bigger enemy. The Torrent has 4x 2.5" mounts and 2x 3.5" mounts, however I severely question how to fit the cabling to three drives at the back will look. It's doable, but won't be pretty. The Torrent is pretty, but it's really not a practical case. Maybe have a look at the LAN Cool 3, it doesn't have the unconventional layout, but it has _a lot_ of utility.
@@Adamant_IT Thanks very much for the quick reply, I'll have a look at the LAN Cool 3. I am certainly looking for a good case with plenty of airflow (for a change). I do really like Fractals though ...... Cheers 👌
Hey Adamant. Is there any specific reason you went with 2 sticks of ram over 4? I know that if you're using a daisy chain over a T topology board 2 is meant to be better but i've also heard that 4 sticks scales well with ryzen.
2 modules tend to be far more reliable in my experience, especially for XMP profiles. Additionally, 2-module kits have higher capacity modules, so they tend to be more useful long-term as well. Those old 4x4GB 16GB kits are kinda a pain in the ass these days. This 2x16GB 32GB kit will stay useful for years. It's not super critical, just a preference for me.
So far I've had no problems at all, but I'm getting away with a lot because Founder cards have the best silicone on them. This sounds like a good strategy for cards that don't like going as low as this one.
Primarily, you sacrifice performance for reduced heat. But then you overclock, forcing it to achieve the same clock speeds with less power, and in theory you end up with the same performance you previously had, but at a lower power consumption (and thus, lower heat/noise). This is a fairly extreme example, the Founders Edition cards have good silicon in them, and are very good candidates for undervolting. But arguably a partner card with a bigger cooler on it might not need it in the first place.
What kind of temps does your 5800x and how much power in frequency? I’m trying to see if my if he was acting normal or is it hot. With my 280 all core 120w p95 76c with a reasonable fan curve at 4.3 all core.
76c is fine, the 5800x will be looking for 80-85c if you let it, but it's possible to keep it lower than that with aggressive cooling - just depends how much noise you want. I try to keep mine under 80, because as soon as you get past that point, it'll start holding back. 4.3 all-core seems a touch low though, you should be able to do 4.5-4.6 all-core without difficulty. Try setting the Curve Optimiser to all-core negative 10 and see what that gets you. This pulls out some voltage across the PBO curve, so will bring down power and temp so it can boost a bit harder. You can use Curve Optimiser with a big negative offset (like, -20) for bigger clocks, but I find it's easy to hit clock-stretching if you get greedy, where the clocks go higher, but the actual performance starts dropping.
@@Adamant_IT rn I have per core -25 I will try -10 all core. Mine starts stretching so fast. Looks like max all core I can do is 15 and that’s still 4.3 but it looks like in cinebench it’s running at 4.6 sff’s still 4.3
Question can coil whine be fixed, my OCZ Fatality 750 had it after booting up Bioshock 2. The game settings weren't obviously set and the main screen apparently had a 920fsp it was a bug that sometimes happens when you boot it up first time on steam. After that I got seriously coil whine as the monitor I was using was a 60hz it was a very weird moment. I ended up getting a Corsair CX550f RGB new for £40 as I was desperate to get rid of the OCZ due to that coil whine
Yes it can be fixed, look up ANC headphones such as Bose QC 45 or Sony XM4/XM5. After months of trying to fix my damn coil whine going thorugh several different GPUs, PSUs and even getting an UPS, I decided to just get headphones that make it inaudible and boy do these Bose headphones do the job. My PC is dead silent now.
I think it makes a lot of sense, as you can run much less cooling and be entirely fine. I recently went to a LAN party with a frame-chassis PC I threw together to avoid lugging the Torrent on a 3hr drive - and I stuck a 3700x on it with a Cooler Master Hyper H411 cooler. And like, over that weekend I was like "this is so much simpler. Just a little air cooler. Not a massive noctua or an AIO, just a little fan boi." My video workflow is CPU limited, so I'm happy with my 5800x because it's maximum performance without buying an expensive chip - but for a regular gaming rig, it's really not necessary, and a 5700x with a simple air cooler is an awful lot less hassle.

My favorite fan software is my goddamn BIOS and AMD Adrenalin for the GPU. Lmao
I remember when computer cases had side-fans.
My old gaming PC had a 240 mm side fan.
Was good for lowering gpu temperature.
Great setup, look out for the corsair dummy ram "light enhancement kits" fill them 2 empty slots with more RGB goodness!
Ew no
The controller holder is cool. I would have loved a sonic one for my MegaDrive controller alongside my MD back in the month.
Great looking build. I really did like the original ying/yang style of the tai chi boards. I've got a 3080FE and haven't had any problems with noise in my case so far.
more good content! good review of upgraded components!
My fave fan lighting is still with a constant fan speed and controlling the light update speed till the RGB separate, not that I use RGB.
Well thought out video.
The processes and CPU usage went down so much and all the compatibility problems you face with all the RGB software (start iCue first, then CAM, then Armory Crate otherwise the RAM would be controlled by the wrong piece of software)
It does not have extremely fancy effects but have to say that they are updating regularly.
Good day Mister Adamant!
What kind of keyboard are you rocking? Love the pudding caps, my own daily board uses YMDK puddings.
It's a Coolermaster MasterKeys Pro S. I like it, but it rattles a fair bit. I want to try and do a mega overhaul on it, see if I can make it sound and feel like a brand new Keychron, but it's another item on the bucket list atm.
I have the compact version and love it. Great case. :)
Nice vid, wondered why your covering audio leads with tape when its not a new case.
I like my Fractal Meshify 2 (new version not the old Meshify 2"c") though originally was going to get the Meshify 2XL but decided on the 2 instead and luckily i did as this case is manageable compared to the size of the XL
Would replacing the Inductors in the PSU fix the whine sound?
I've only seen one amazing case and that was the old Mac Pro 5.1 case, that thing was an engineering marvel, of all the fads that one was a shame it didn't caught on but then again it wasn't easy to copy.
Awsome,well done
I LITERALLY love the Torrent!!!! I just can't make myself shell out 250+ for a case!!!!!!! If I could get one for 199 I probably would!!!!!!
Yea I forgot to mention it in the video when I was talking about the size, but yea, it's not a cheap case.
The exotic fans explain some of the cost, as well as the back and front tempered glass, but justified or not, it's still expensive.
Like the hoodie 👍
do you have any links to where you got your starter psu cable set please
Must be a generational thing, my generation was like that with our cars back when they could be modified and improved, and your generation does that with computers. I'm glad I didn't miss being alive in the 70s and wish I could go back to that decade. Even electronics were much more fun back then. Schematics were available on all consumer electronics and nothing was micro or unserviceable. My computer is a second-hand 4-year-old Lenovo black steel business I-5 desktop which works very well. I could not care less about modifying or messing with it so long as it works. I do clean the fan filters since it's on the floor under my desk.
wouldn't you want your rad lines on the high side to avoid low air pockets , extra work on your pump and the potential for excess noise due to air bubbling and eventually pump whine?
aio radiator outlets below the cpu?
Really nice build, I really like it. I can see that you are a gamer, so I would like to know what is your favorite game to play?
So Caradog's new name is "The right place at rhe right time" it seems...
Love the colours on that hoodie.
Great build, not personally a fan of the torrent but it's a great case and it looks really good after you were done with it.
hi graham, what is the background song that starts at 5:05?? Shazam can't identify it let me know thanks from Italy.
@@brehtas23 for sure is remixed, infact Shazam cannot recognize it
Thanks for the video Graham.
Where Can I download the wallpaper that you are using on your computer.
my power supply is a Corsair AX1600i Digital 80 PLUS TITANIUM Full Modular ATX its very quiet i don't think i have had the fan running yet
Wow i love the blue color look so nice its a long video to but was good
Just for curiosity,
Where on Earth can I install an optical drive in a case like that if I needed one?
I am also a massive fan of built-in card readers because I work on a lot of stuff that uses different kinds of storage cards like my DSLR, and my car camera.
get some boomer case that still has optical drives clearly this one isn't for you
Top-mount PSU chads stay winning.
Top mount PSUs is something I never want to experience again.
What's a coil wine?
It's when the copper coil bits on your circuit board makes a high-pitched noise when powered on. Somewhat uncommon, irritating when it does occur
In this example it's a GPU making the whine, but PSUs are also known for it.

0 idea what is going on but enjoying this content despite that somehow

Top Notch!!!!!! 😀
Just upgraded my 2600X in my x470 TaiChi to the 5800X. Amazing upgrade. Now to find a 6900XT for a good price on black Friday..
Just picked up an Asrock RX 6900 XT OC for $655 including 2 games..
@@InimicusSolitus 6900 XT gang. I am getting the 7900 XTX though
@@temporaltomato3021 meanwhile my UV'd 6900 XT has more performance than stock and beats a 3080 Ti (on par with 3090 Ti) at just ~250W. got it at $700
Similar thoughts when I managed to bag a 3070Ti FE for msrp.
You still running this rig in late 2024 or moved on to AM5?
What brand of key caps do you have on that keyboard?
Just some cheap chinese Pudding caps, wasn't sure about them at first, but they do show off the lighting a lot more than regular key caps do👌
@@Adamant_IT I really like the diffused light effect they give off.
Fractal cases are beautiful, I would love to get one but I have a EATX mobo (z690 classified) :/
does a EATX fit inside the FD torrent ?
Yup, the big Torrent is E-ATX compatible. Not to be confused with the Torrent Compact or the Torrent Nano, which are ATX and ITX respectively.
@@Adamant_IT Ohhh nice!, I will get the big one then, that 180mm fan looks nice
The torrent compact is great. I used it to replace fractal R2 as while it had been quiet it was choking my gpu
I have to admit I'm a little disappointed you didn't fix that PSU coil whine - I haven't seen anybody diagnose which component, and try to replace it. If you are looking for new videos to do I'd love to see you have a stab at that.
best fix for coil whine is a pair of Bose QC 45 or Sony XM4/XM5's.
A complete work of art. Sadly theTate Modern would favour a house brick :)
hi mate ,what is the keyboard you use at home?
It's a Cooler Master Masterkeys Pro S. Cherry Browns, o-rings, pudding keycaps.
@@Adamant_IT Thank you for your response! I'm inclined to try a 2 stick kit as i have had issues with my 4 stick kit with my 5800x.
the power limit set to max,the curve at 1800,only then you will have no problems with spikes. Thanks
So far I've had no problems at all, but I'm getting away with a lot because Founder cards have the best silicone on them. This sounds like a good strategy for cards that don't like going as low as this one.
What would you take for the old motherboard?
H'mm. I haven't decided if I'm going to use it elsewhere yet, but if I don't I'd definitely be interested in selling it... are you UK based?
@@Adamant_IT I am in the South East near Tunbridge Wells
cool, drop me an email at info@adamantit.co.uk with "X470 Taichi" in the subject line and I'll get back to you!
how does undervolting a graphic card affects the performance of it?
Primarily, you sacrifice performance for reduced heat. But then you overclock, forcing it to achieve the same clock speeds with less power, and in theory you end up with the same performance you previously had, but at a lower power consumption (and thus, lower heat/noise).
This is a fairly extreme example, the Founders Edition cards have good silicon in them, and are very good candidates for undervolting. But arguably a partner card with a bigger cooler on it might not need it in the first place.
@@Adamant_IT How can i learn about this? and what is the right way to go? i want to learn more but have never overclocked or any thing similar before.
Looks like max all core I can do is 15 and that’s still 4.3 but it looks like in cinebench it’s running at 4.6 sff’s still 4.3
You should list the items in detail for those who want to purchase it on Amazon.
can you tell me where i can buy this pc case ore the name
This is a Fractal Design Torrent
What's your opinion on 5700x 65w cpu, 8 cores 16 treads? A lot less watts, nearly the same performance.
Not a massive noctua or an AIO, just a little fan boi."
My video workflow is CPU limited, so I'm happy with my 5800x because it's maximum performance without buying an expensive chip - but for a regular gaming rig, it's really not necessary, and a 5700x with a simple air cooler is an awful lot less hassle.
