.... Why is it ingenious? I don't understand it. The Joseon Dynasty, the last ancestors of the Republic of Korea, kept blocks of ice that had undergone "this ingenious" collection process in refrigerators made of stone or wood. According to Korean historical records, the Silla government had its own refrigerator management department, so they must have kept ice blocks ever since. Preserving blocks of ice was ingenious in ancient times, or at least until the Middle Ages. But only in Korea or Japan is it an ancient tradition.
3 minutes in and it looks like how everyone else has gotten ice for thousands of years.

What are the blocks of ice used for?
They are used to chill the dolphin and whale meat that they still hunt. It is all very traditional.
I don't gerrit. If the weather is already frozen cold, what then do you need the ice blocks for?
Fish markets, cold storage plants, small businesses to name a few

They store it for use in summer

It reminds me of "Frozen" Animation movie ❄❄❄
The title should be: Mashed up timber-cloth-ice from around the world.
"Genius" aka the way humans have gotten ice since time immemorial...
I was gripped by the drama of it all.
