Girl and she did all this while getting her PhD too. Running a whole business (YT channel), getting her PhD and running the household. Definitely a supermama with a great partner that also helps!!!! Their videos are very interesting. They are a Christian led family from Baltimore, MD and recently moved to LA once their YT channel grew a lot more. They are a blended family and the last 3 kids (2 girls and 1 boy) are between her and her husband but of course he claims the older 4 girls too. The eldest daughter is from a different relationship and the other three girls are from a different relationship. So that is 7 kids and 3 fathers.

She was so rough on their hair 🥲 I was flinching throughout the whole video with all the ripping noises 😭 Denman is great for styling, but detangling with it will leave you bald. However I love how the parents work together and talk to their children. You can tell they all love each other 😊

@@kkcamp02 I cringed the whole time as well. The way she ripped through their hair with the denman and the way she ripped the strands apart like wishbones 😬😬 the horror. And the washing portion...she was rubbing the piles of hair to the scalp instead of using the tips of her fingers. That's bound to create so many more tangles.

I love their family and Alena is definitely open to learning new stuff about their hair....I watched the recent hair wash videos and other than the combing (had me crying😭)she has a really thorough hair care regimine for them. Can't wait until the kids find the products for their own hair types because the same product won't work as well for everyone's hair.

I’m one of five, and even though one of us is much younger, I remember my parents doing assembly line bath time. My dad was in charge of Jammie’s and combing hair after, and as the only curly in the family, I would go last because my dad would spiral each curl while we watched Wheel of Fortune. This video made me remember that, so thanks.

Literally the I believe oldest could be second but one helping in another video was really trying and explaining things and the mother trampled all over her and her other siblings.
5 heads in one 1 day?! I set time on my calendar for a whole weekend for my daughter. Friday for taking out braids + detangling. Saturday for shampoo + deep condition + blow dry. Sunday for braiding. I just. Can’t. Deal.

This is bringing back memories. I loved wash day even though detangling was a horror because my mom made me love my hair and my sisters hair sooo much the way she would talk about it. Made me feel like we were the most beautiful girls to walk planet earth. And she never compared us in a way that made us feel like one was more beautiful than the other...... You know, I should really tell her how much I appreciate that.
You should! Let her know this immediately sis! We all don't have loving parents so the good ones need to be recognized for sure.....
For the first baby, Akylie: We have the same hair type. PLEASE FINGER DETANGLE!!! You can tell where the tangles are. Work in sections, ends to root, it’s your fingers and lots of slippery product. You will see less shedding and breakage. You also tend to catch more of the falling hairs if you use your hands.

The washing process tangled all the childrens hair, more…it would have been MUCH better if they lay on the counter with their head hanging backwards over the sink, not forward and not wash their hair as it’s dirty laundry but the regal crowns that they uphold!
I agree 1000% about type 3 curly hair getting tangled! I think it's partially because we are told that protective styles are not for us. In Nordic winter weather I'm used to putting on a beanie and a scarf and coming home with basically matted hair at my neck. A lot of fairy knots also even though I don't have split ends :/

I think it's because type 3 hair gets kind of loose but it's really curly still so strands curl into one another instead of standing on its own. Anyway, that's what happens for me but my hair is also very dense so it might add to it.
My daughter has type 3 hair and protective styling is a must, she needs it as much as I do for my 4c/b hair.
Ah so that is what keeps happening to those random two parts of my hair that are much longer and looser curls
I actually agree with the thing about some type 3 hair getting more tangled type 4. Just looking at Akyli's hair, I automatically don't want to comb it..
I love Alena's family so much. And Arazo's hair has definitely gotten thicker. I think they are all learning for themselves especially the first and second child. And Alena is open to learning more
Chizi, it was hurting my head watching this. I felt like they needed WAAAYYY more conditioner! And the tangle teezer would be a GODSEND for them! And I felt like she might be creating more tangles with her washing technique.
The way she washes their hair tangles it even more, and I'm not understanding why everyone is standing to detangle the hair. Can't rush the process. Sit down and buckle in
The three oldest kids are from Alenas previous relationships. The 4 younger kids are from this marriage with Joe as the father.
I really like this family. The kids learn korean, are validated all the time and they have the most beautiful love story. Alena and Joe have known eachother since highschool, got together, broke up and didn’t see eachother for years. Then they reconeccted when Mazeele was going trough divorce, and they ended up with eachother again! So cool. And they are planning for child number 8!

As for someone who has 3c hair I can definitely attest that my hair gets SO TANGLED. There’s days that I’ve had to comb out dread locks from my curly hair knotting up. It’s no joke lol

Type 3 hair can matt overnight I swear to god.
I'm also a type 3 curl, but I have 3a, b and c on one head( yay😒) and yes the tangles are too real! I have however discovered for my wash and go's, if I band my hair before I go to sleep I find my hair gets less matted and I can get a few more days out of the style.
It’s so easy for them to get tangled even when I wear protection during sleep 💀💀
I LOVE what you said about speaking love to your kids hair. I'm white and as a kid my hair was always compared to my sister's in a negative way. Mine was thin and unruly (no one realized it was actually 2B to 2C curly) and hers was thick and wavy. I spent years hating my hair because of that. What was worse was the way mom pointed out that I was thin and she was chunky, constantly bugging her about food and activity levels. And I bought into it! Looking back I see that she was gorgeous, a natural hourglass, and my hair was lovely in it's own thin curly way. Thank you for this reminder. My daughters have very different hair, and I want to speak love for both of them. They will not hate any part of themselves because of how I speak.

I definitely noticed a lot of people only think type 4 hair can tangle when the other types can get just as tangled if not more. So some really do rip through their loose curly or even straight hair because in they're mind it can't knot up. God bless those babies ends and scalp
I have 7 too. Get this reaction everytime. I've learned how to take care of both my hair and my kids hair a little while back. I always got relaxers as a kid and never learned how to deal with my natural hair until my 20s
2:59 I´ve noticed it too! My hair is 4 b and c in the front and middle but the back (about half my hair) is 3c, and that´s the part that always has the worst tangles after box braids or after swimming
I grew up in a family of 6 children. Honestly it feels so normal and whenever we are gathered in a room my dad counts just to make sure everyone is there. I love it. This might seem overwhelming now because like the last 4 are super young but as they start growing up more you will see them going to events and places together and be each other's friends. Not all turn out that way but most do. And honestly I love this family. The children are well-mannered and they are active and engaged in chores and stuff so it is not overwhelming on the parents. The family is also Christ-Centered and have fear of God so you can see than in their routines and videos. And ofcourse like any house with big family it always seems chaotic but that's the best part🤗❤️ and this video in particular is one of the videos I have stayed until the end to watch from their channel. Love it.🥰

I honestly love the Mazelee family and I've been watching them for so long. Yeah sometimes I don't agree with the wash day processes but then nothing is really totally wrong when it comes to other people's hair. I think they are just doing the best they can especially with seven children
I‘m white, my hair is probably type 2 but for 20 years I thought it’s perfectly straight. I used to hate my hair but thanks to you I’m finally taking care of my hair like I should do. I’m just a beginner but my hair got a little bit more wavy and I’m loving it. I always shampoos and conditioned not looking at the ingredients at all and it took me about 4 minutes. But I’ve changed my routine and it’s amazing 🤩

I’m sorry to be the one to say this but she is not handling these kids hair with enough care, and in general this is why I’m not crazy about huge families with many children because I feel like you can only spread your time and attention so much before you can’t meet all the kids needs fully.
Just from the first touch of the 12 year old...I was like yeah I can’t deal.....
To make such strong assumptions based on one video is a little harsh and far fetched. While you might find it hard to balance your time with many kids (which is ok) there is no evidence that this mom is having that challenge here. If anything, she has shown that she takes the time to do all her kids hair. She just needs to touch up her hair care skills.
@@leshcamp7281 i didn’t come up with this based on one video, so who’s really assuming? I’ve actually seen quite a bit of their content . I’m a mother and I’ve worked in childcare for years so I feel qualified to share my opinion especially given the fact that I’ve educated my self on proper hair care and I have long healthy hair because of that as well as my child. I didn’t say she was a bad mother just that she’s pulled in too many directions which is obvious. In a few years once her oldest daughters are grown and most likely express how difficult it was to thrive in that household, I won’t be surprised. It’s not bad to have a big family but rather impractical in this day and age without leaving some kind of scars on your children.
Watching this family grow over the years has been amazing. I love them 🥰

Im a little late but yes I have similar type hair and think of like string or shoe laces being tied up, you pull a little and it comes undone after a but of tugging. I can dentangle my hair in about 10-15 minutes and it sounds rough but its just slighting tugging, im never in any pain
They might not feel it on their scalp but the hair definitely feel it
I love watching them, I give her all props for all her efforts, she is raising some amazing kids and doing her best as a wife. People are coming for her crazy in some comments and I would like to see all them haters raise that many children the way she does 🥴
At the end of the day, everyone will grow up to know how to best deal with their own hair. All I know is I was happy to be relieved from my mother’s rough hands 😂

I am bi-racial and I can relate. My African mother and my Arab father did not know what to do with my hair. I had to learn on my own. Denman brushes, I do not dare!! They hurt my hair!!!!! The problem with our hair 3c ish, is that it needs moisture daily, if not that's why the tangles are on fire. My mom didn't know what to do with my hair because my sister is 4c like her and I was the only girl with my hair type. All my hair issues I had to learn on my own so it has been a journey!!!
This is really fascinating because usually, I see it in reverse. Those with "finer" hair have biracial children and then throw up their hands in confusion on what to do, lol. I'm black/African American but for a year, I was left in the care of a friend of my mom's, who is white, while she was in the Air Force. The woman seemed confused on how to handle my hair, so it mostly stayed in four twists.
Denman brushes are not meant to be detangled with it’s just a styler to get nice curls 😩

@@ajlive6419 its not unusual. She would give me advice like comb your hair dry. My sister has 4c hair. We don't have the same hair so she tried but did really know what to do with it. She knows how to handle 4c hair.
@@lubnan08 yeah it is pretty unusual because if you know how to deal with 4c hair USUALLY you can deal with almost any type of hair you can ask any hairdresser. ESPECIALLY because 4c hair is the hardest to deal with. But I’m sure in some cases it can happen… as in yours.
My mum always says the day I started taking control of my hair (around age 11) she cried inside 😂. I had long, thick natural hair, then I asked for relaxers, used drying wet look gels and tried colouring it multiple times, never caring for it properly. She would quietly say under her breath ‘undoing all that hard work…..’ 😂😂😂
Amen to how you talk about your children’s hair! Be positive!!! My Hispanic hubby has handsome, wavy hair with a Superman curl on the forehead. For some reason unknown, he hates his nice hair and tries to plaster it flat as possible with gel. My daughter inherited the waves and curls from him and his mom. I had to remind my husband about talking positively about our daughter’s hair so she doesn’t develop a complex. It’s beautiful freshly conditioned out of the shower, and it’s beautiful all full and fluffy a few days later :) I have wavy hair when I put in products, so I’m trying to embrace that way of styling it so my little girl can see that I appreciate my hair straight or with extra body. Both are good.
With that many heads to wash, I think they need a real hairdresser's set up in a room in their house, with the basin and the chair so they can lie back. It will probably make it easier on both the washer and the washee.
You are absolutely right regarding a lot of type 3 curls getting hella tangled. My cousin’s curl STAY tangled and with single strands knots. So much so that she prefers her hair straightened because of it.
Man… I hate her shampoo method… balling the hair up and scrubbing it around.😩😩😩😩😩 Mama please stop being so rough! It’s hard to watch…

Its a big NO from me. That mom was not careful at all, making knots during the wash process, and even ripping the knots out with the brush. I cant take it!!

I don’t see her as the most affectionate or attentive parent, to keep it 💯. Seven kids would be so overwhelming for even the most caring, patient human being. Honestly, I don’t necessarily think it’s possible to give that many kids the time and psychological and emotional support they need. Just my opinion.
Look and you see how they keep saying she just got her Ph.D they must not know what that takes and entails. I have several friends with them and they all got them before kids thankfully and it was still a lot. Something or someone is getting neglected it just is what it is.

I agree. And she and others are using the excuse that she has 7 kids to defend her lack of proper haircare. If you can't find the time to properly care for your kids' hair, then maybe you have more kids than you can care for.

You may be doing fine financially today, but who knows what tomorrow brings. Kids need SO much. It’s really hard to give enough of your time to one or two, let alone seven. And wait until their teens. Are you really going to know what all of them are doing? Who they’re dealing with? What’s going on in their minds? It’s just irresponsible to me.
I'll take a tangle teezer (the one with the handle) or a Wet Brush any day over a denman brush. Also, deep conditioning and detangling *before* actually shampooing is a huge game changer and time saver.

I know she is doing the best she can regarding the wash day for her large family. But some alligator clips and some gelatinous prepoo (like just for me curl peace or african pride) would help her tremendously.

And yea I actually combed curly hair for the first time a few months ago. You would think it detangles easy but the knots you literally have to separate them with your fingers before any tool and I have 4b-4c and My hair don’t tangle like that. I have a daughter with my texture and I recently had a baby with 3c so I’m excited I mastered my first daughters hair she is mid back length ❤️

I have the same hair texture as Azaio and the way she was doing her hair was triggering me lol. You have to detangle first then shampoo or it’s going to take forever to detangle everything afterwards. And why was she using so much shampoo 😭 And yes she needs a really good conditioner with a bunch of slip. Honestly my mom was the same with my hair until I learned how to do it myself and what products worked the best for me. I do think there’s a big difference with how she was talking about the “easier” looser textures…

I love the Mazelee family .... So much to learn from them ... Their dynamics with each other is really nice .... And Alena hats off to her .... 7 children and PhD , now that's difficult but nothing stops her being the great mother she is ...
Honestly she was blaming her first daughter for her hair being “tangled” but she didn’t section it. She shampood it in a way that reinforced whatever tangles she had on top of the fact that the shampoo was stripping… of course it going to be tangled at the end. Probably more than it would have been in a different process. Then she wasnt detangling it going from the bottom up which is necessary especially with color treated hair. I wonder if the daughter did her own hair would she have gotten it done quicker and in a more efficient way. The tools she’s using 😩 it’s a no for me. I honestly think that’s a problem with big families. Curly hair requires patience and time. That’s something they don’t have because they have 7 kids on top of everything else they have to do. Regardless, they decided to have all of this kids so I think the parents should take more time so they can look up better ways to approach their individual hair needs that doesn’t come from a personal assumption. There’s so much research out there now than there was some time ago. The styling part was fine but the rest needs work.
My thoughts exactly. It makes sense that she would want to rush because they're 7 kids but doesnt mean she should. More kids just mean more time needed to do all of their hair. Maybe she can teach the kids to all sit down and detangle their own heads patiently and with conditioner while she works on one head at a time 🤷🏾♀️

You def hit the nail on the head! I have very curly type 3 hair and the tangles is REAL. I WATCH NATURAL TYPE 4 vids and the detangling looks so easy, I’m like I WISH lol.

My daughters have type 3 hair that is very, very thick. It is a nightmare! I do a lot of braids, lol
I have 2 daughters of my own who are now grown . They both have masses of hair and always had my friends and families children in my house ( yep I love me some little peeps) I remember doing this during the summer holidays especially after taking them swimming and trust me it’s Nan all day event but I loved every minute of it as it gave time with each and everyone of them to talk about whatever they wanted. I miss that .
Alena is a super mama and to top it all off, her husband is extremely supportive of her and the kids.

Like her second child 😩that was definitely my hair when it was longer. The sections, the tangling while washing while still trying to get to the roots. Idk something about washing my scalp while my ends are feeling tangled I just couldn’t take it. And then the detangling (I finger de tangled everything) process took me half a day lol. An extremely wonderful long bonding experience with my hair😆❤️
This young lady is amazing! I do not want to meddle in her business, but I want to say something. I have found the portable shampoo basin to be a big help in shampooing, rinsing, and conditioning hair. This basin relaxes people and gives them that salon feeling. It is sold on Amazon and maybe other websites. It is not fancy but it has been a jewel for me when washing my Mother's hair especially because she has dementia and requires the use of a wheelchair.
I have type 3 hair and stopped using a Denman when I realized it was breaking my hair off. I agree, anything else would've been better for those kids. If I hear hair snap, that's when I'd go easier. If the husband is at home, maybe have him start cooking while she is slowly detangling. I hated having combs ripped through my hair as a child and I'm tenderheaded, so I'd be very careful of ever doing that to someone else, even if they claim they're not tender.
What do you use to detangle? My son is biracial and has I think 3a hair. Honestly have no idea. But just ringlet curls and I use denman to make the ends curl uniform but I have notice I need to finger detangle before I use it or he can't even sit still to me combing it.

I love that both parents ensures that every single one of their children learn about their heritage and celebrate their culture.
Their younger 3 children are all half Korean (Appa is their birth father) and are taught the language by their father and also attend Korean school; including the 12, now 13 year old who has currently started at a new Korean school.
They (older ones too) refer to him as Appa (phonetic) as well. I believe that means dad. They can all speak Korean, but I notice that when it came to visiting Appa's grandmother, it was only their half Korean kids that visited (on camera) but I sensed that she was probably nice to ALL their children.
Appa always gets involved in learning about the holistic care of their children; also their African culture; which is great! He's a good man.

Whew this has me stressed. Poor babies heads. All the ripping thru the hair. I hurt for them. Also..... that 3rd child, she said she would just condition it but I remember in the beginning of the video she said her scalp was itching. So she definitely needed a scalp cleanse.
Little summary on the Mazelee family: Parents are Joe & Alena (née Maze) Lee. Children are Amiyah, Akyli, Azaio, Arazo, Ajedi, Ajoui & baby (i dont believe they’ve named her yet.) The youngest 3 are her children with Joe and the others are hers from previous relationships. Ajedi is the only boy. They are a beautiful blended family and are Christians so majority if their videos do have a message in them. Also, Alena recently completed her PhD so she really is a superwoman. Growing up my hair was the "nappiest" and would take the most conditioner. And I remember instances where my dad would say it like it was a bad thing. Like my sisters was better cause it ate less of the conditioner. It did make me feel like I was nappy all over and sometimes ugly. His face said a lot. Like he preferred the ones w softer hair. It was the beginning of me feeling off about him. It distanced us because I felt ugly around him. My parents are immigrants that learned the language, became business owners. Im super proud. That doesn't change the fact that he made me feel ugly with his "unintentional" choice of words. We good now. But as a child. I had to overcome that ugly feeling among other children. Talk them up.

As a 3b 3c girl my hair gets tangled and i also had that theory when i see type 4 haired girls brush their hair. Imo tho the mother wasn't brushing her type 3 daughters hair right, bottom too top is perfect but she was brushing through it casually making her own knots in the process of brushing. You need to softly brush detangle then you brush normally once detangled not just brush make ur own knots and rip the knots out to detangle. I use the same brush btw and i do not brush directly right away ouch!
also trying it up while it hasn't dried can cause ur curl pattern to like insanely flatten type 3 hair is usually a lot looser and the curls r more fragile
She is so heavy handed and ROUGH girl don’t know how to comb through some hair. Start from the bottom, hold the hair by the shaft, and work your way up girl
I feel like because the first daughters hair was dyed at the tips it dried out and became more tangled. Probably could ha e deranged before they washed. Especially the 2nd daughter. They stated she had braids in for a while. You must detangle after taking out braids and before washing. Good luck to them all!
The trauma I had from dipping my head into the sink/bowl etc is haunting me now lol. They are so good with it which is good and it makes the mom’s job a little easier. I just know in the future I’ll make sure to get the ones they use at the salon bc there is real life trauma 😭😭😭

I watch them all the time. I love this family!. The denman brush pained me though. I used to use one on my 4c head to detangle, but it was pulling out my hair so I switched to a stiff paddle brush. It was the best decision I ever made.

I have really tangled type 3c/b hair and use a Denman brush. But the key is detangling the sections with the brush vertical first then horizontal. Makes it so much easier.

Omg she's soooo right about "type 3" hair. My hair is I guess what you call "3c", thin strands, low porosity, medium density, and it literally gets MATTED at the roots if I do any kind of wash and go or twist out, and then not touch it for a week maybe 2 weeks, vs my cousin who is "4c" all over AND high density, and she can go a long time without detangling her hair and it won't be nearly as hard to get through 😭. I be so confused when I hear 4 type girls complaining about how hard it is. I tell my cousin all the time I wish I had her hair 😂. Not to mention I'm super tender headed lmao

I've got hair that straighter than I'll ever be but have helped people detangle their curly hair and honestly I've seen the same thing happen.
Of course type 4c hair isn't exactly easy to detangle either but it also usually takes a while longer to get bad compared to a 3c. Also softer hair tends to form these really bad knots I can't even really explain, thick or "wirey" hair doesn't do that.
I'm not a specialist for hair or anything that's just what I've noticed by helping people around me for years.
When my mom would do my hair she would always say “Your hairs are like sisters, they’re always sticking together” 😭😭 I feel like if I look away for a sec it’s back to tangled. Glad to see people talking about it! Thought I was alone

Gurl you are spot on with the type 3 tangles, I have a mix of both type 3 and type 4 hair, and when I tell the type 3 parts be rudeeeee, like the way they tangle is almost offensive 😭

to be fair- the girl who has thinner hair has probably my exact hair style (probably quite a bit different in texture, but the curl pattern looked identical when I was that age), and my mom mostly just kept it down, shirley temple curls are hard to do stuff with just because when they grow out, they become weighed down, and my hair is ab waist or lower back length now, so it just looks wavy a lot and I keep it in double braids 24/7 just to keep it detangled. I REALLY. wish she used a different brush on her hair- I was extremely tender headed as a kid, I'm not now because my hair is so much thicker, so when you have more knots you sort of get used to it, but kids with thinner hair, it's more of a pinching feeling that's painful instead of painful pulling as if you were to grab a large portion of hair (like one strand vs a section) so I sorta wish she had a tangle teaser, though I've never tried one myself, or a brush without the lil ball things on the end so if it did get caught, itd slide off and be less painful. all my opinion though, and god that woman is doing astronomical for having 7 children I could never even imagine. My sister had type 3 hair and her hair gets way more tangled than my type 4. It’s because she has fine hair strands. That’s what makes hair more tangled, no mater if the hair is straight curly or coily.
I screamed while she detangle the blond ends. She needed to start at ends. I have hair like that girl. Often 4s don’t know how to deal with 3s in my experience. Our hair really is quite different. I brush from the Tips in an c shape. I have almost no hair in brush when I’m done. We have to unravel the curl in single file.

And it makes me feel she kind of praises having mixed kids, but with out saying "it could be better if...". I'm also mixed, but my mom is asian and did not know how to care for my hair while not being negligent. However, introspect I now realize the little side comments she would sneak in with ignorance of how it may affect me
i don't want to be too harsh on her but i too sensed that she favors the curlier doll hair . I won't slag her off but yeah based on our own experiences as mixies for some of us it hits home even if it appears benign. I onno but hair preference aggravates me easily. Texturism is a byproduct of racism.
I am a dad to a little princess and i know how to do her 4c hair. my daughter is tender headed and she knows i've got all the patience in the world even when she sleeps mid-shampooing then wakes up and sleeps some more. Now it makes it easy for me to detangle and moisturize her hair in peace but she knows in her heart that Papa loves her hair . she gets compiiments because her hair is lighter brown and then gets insulted bc its supposedly a rebellious 4c. Like its god given .
