  • Pulling out the entire rear deck of the BMW E46 M3 from the headrests the the speakers in order to save as much weight on the race car as possible. I was able to remove every part of the rear deck shaving off 20 lbs of weight. The journey is still unfolding as I plan to gut the car as much as possible.

@@WannabeRacer I’ve seen a few people remove these no problem and suggestions it’s not a structural part of the car

Sorry for late response. If you haven't done it yet, the answer is no BUT the rear deck creates a nasty glare on the back window thats annoying. One of the guys I race with has painted his rear deck black to cut down on the glare.

Amazing videos thank you so much, just great and helpful. At this point im just a little bit lost...i have a harman kardon system to remove and the sun rollo at the rear deck, so somehow i dont have the bigger screws on the top of the deck. The speakers and the seat belts are out and the front blend as well.....but somehow the coverage in the back near the glass is stuck somehow?....maybe i have to remove the equalizer from the soundsystem which is connected on the bottom of the rear deck....to see if there are some further screws to remove...also i have no idea how to remove the sun rollo...anyhow....i will try tomorrow and maybe figure it out....if anyone knows i would be really thankful for help ;)

Glad they help! I wish I had the answer for you, but I have no experience with the setup in your car, so I am not sure what might be the problem... Best of luck on getting it out!

@@WannabeRacer do not worry, i will figure out somehow....but somehow now while the rear speakers are already out, i feel the need to remove also the heavy cd changer to loose even more weight...😅 do you think it will be too light ghen, if i keep the normal heavy battery?

@@RT-tg7uw If you run some form of aero to offset the rear weight loss, and/or also remove front weight, it shouldn't be an issue. I have mine still in the car because I would be very front heavy and cant run aero in the series that I am in.

@@WannabeRacer Exactly, for this maybe a spoiler would support the rear stability in this case....the same story with the brakes...i upgraded in front with the 6 piston performance brake, so now i should upgrade also a bit the rear brake...like for example wit the porsche 996 brake, to improve a bit the stability ;)
