Bruce Wayne, also known by his superhero vigilante persona Batman, is a fictional character who is the main protagonist in Christopher Nolan's trilogy of superhero films, based on the DC Comics character of the same name, created by Bill Finger and Bob Kane. Portrayed by Christian Bale, this version of Batman is arguably explored more in-depth compared to that of the previous film series by Tim Burton and Joel Schumacher, as the Dark Knight film series provides a full arc for the character and was intended by Nolan to be more realistic than previous portrayals.
In the films, Bruce is the billionaire owner of the technology firm Wayne Enterprises. After witnessing the murder of his parents at age eight and motivated by his love for Rachel Dawes, Bruce travels the world to train to fight crime, returning to claim inheritance of his father's company. Subsequently, he begins fighting crime in Gotham City as Batman, using advanced military-predicated technology in doing so and basing his persona on conquering his fear of bats, starting his path as a hero.
Bale's portrayal of Batman has often been considered one of the greatest of the character in film, and has also been credited with the success of the Dark Knight film series, with the latter two films both grossing over $1 billion each, and thus, the restoration of public interest in Batman in the 21st century.
Batman[b] is a superhero who appears in American comic books published by DC Comics. Batman was created by the artist Bob Kane and writer Bill Finger, and debuted in the 27th issue of the comic book Detective Comics on March 30, 1939. In the DC Universe, Batman is the alias of Bruce Wayne, a wealthy American playboy, philanthropist, and industrialist who resides in Gotham City. His origin story features him swearing vengeance against criminals after witnessing the murder of his parents, Thomas and Martha, as a child, a vendetta tempered by the ideal of justice. He trains himself physically and intellectually, crafts a bat-inspired persona, and monitors the Gotham streets at night. Kane, Finger, and other creators accompanied Batman with supporting characters, including his sidekicks Robin and Batgirl; allies Alfred Pennyworth and James Gordon; love interest Catwoman; and foes such as the Penguin, the Riddler, Two-Face, and his archenemy, the Joker.
Kane conceived Batman in early 1939 to capitalize on the popularity of Superman; although Kane frequently claimed sole creation credit, Finger substantially developed the concept from a generic superhero into something more bat-like. They drew inspiration from pulp fiction characters like the Shadow and Sherlock Holmes. Batman received a spin-off publication, Batman, in 1940. Kane and Finger introduced Batman as a ruthless vigilante who frequently killed or maimed criminals, but he evolved into a just, disciplined superhero with a stringent moral code that prohibits killing during the 1940s. Unlike most superheroes, Batman does not possess any superpowers, instead relying on his intellect, fighting skills, and wealth. The 1960s Batman television series used a camp aesthetic, which continued to be associated with Batman for years after it ended. Various creators worked to return Batman to his darker roots in the 1970s and 1980s, culminating with the 1986 miniseries The Dark Knight Returns by Frank Miller.
DC has featured Batman in many comic books, including comics published under its imprints such as Vertigo and Black Label; he has been considered DC's flagship character since the 1990s. The longest-running Batman comic, Detective Comics, is the longest-running comic book in the United States. Batman is frequently depicted alongside other DC superheroes, such as Superman and Wonder Woman, as a member of organizations such as the Justice League and the Outsiders. In addition to Bruce Wayne, other characters used the Batman persona, such as Jean-Paul Valley / Azrael in the 1993-1994 "Knightfall" story arc; Dick Grayson, the first Robin, from 2009 to 2011; and Jace Fox, the son of Wayne's ally Lucius, since 2021. DC has also published comics featuring alternate versions of Batman, including the incarnation seen in The Dark Knight Returns and its successors, the incarnation from the Flashpoint event, and numerous interpretations in comics published under the Elseworlds label.
What did you think of Jim Carrey’s Riddler??
Him playing the character is what made me appreciate the Riddler as a character, but as time went on, I realized his portrayal was not very unique to the character, and had since evolved since both Frank Gorshin and Jim Carrey's times playing him. I enjoyed Paul Dano a lot, as well as the one on the Gotham TV show, and the one in the DCAU was very under used. Hopefully James Gunn finds a worthy adversary to Frank and Paul's versions!
Top 5 favorite villain for Batman
"show me how to punch a guy!"
"ball up the fist, reach way back and assert yourself.."
"OoWw!! 😲"
😂
Jim would actually make a great Joker.
Imagine being Bat-man and Jim is the Joker but you're not allowed to laugh at his jokes and Comedic Acting.. 🤭
Your Batman movies would be…for a very different audience.
@@westmcgee9320 for the 90's style when he was younger, it would perfect and not everybody liked the Dark knight Joker Evil side until we saw it.
The Joker in the comics always tried to make Batman laugh with his bad jokes.
Then he got gritty and sociopathic in the 2000s Heath's was mixer of Jack Nicholson's killing joke and 2000s comics mass murderer clown@@christonbarcas
This would be terrible. Thank the gods you're not in charge of casting anything. I bet you also think Willem DaFoe would be a good Joker too.
Tell me: do you get what makes the Joker tick? Or do you just like the funny colorful clown?
I loved it. He was a good choice, even though I think he could have pulled off Joker too. And TLJ was a dick for no reason to him.
Same thing I was thinking 😂.
Imagine a funny Joker but you're Batman and you're not allowed to crack up and laugh.
I think he even can pull off a legendary "joker laugh".
Who?
@@FreemanPetrowskiTommy Lee Jones
Tommy was just a grumpy old man being a grumpy old man, he's just been that way since he was 35 lol.
I'm convinced TLJ was born looking like Benjamin Button so it's understandable why he's always been grumpy, he was born a 104year old man
Just a beer light to guide us
Underrated villain.
He honeslty made the movie watchable. Non of them knew how to portray the characters they were but at least Jim was entertaining
They had a terrible director. I don't think Jim or Tommy would've been as good if directed by Burton, but the movie as a whole would've been better and Keaton would've been way better than Val Kilmer.
lol just walked around breaking cabinets. seems like an easy and fun role but it costs him some of his sanity along the way. not an easy thing to be for a movie.
😊Jim Carrey 😊is the best 😊 Riddler ever 😊
Best riddler
Nah
“For the look, We went with David Bowie” …. Why?
Val’s Batman is extremely underrated. Top 3 imo.
Top 6
Thank you! I agree completely!
Bore Kilmer? I've seen Val Kilmer give great performances, but Bruce Wayne/Batman was surely not one of them.
He shown more emotion as Bluntman than he did as Bruce or Batman.
Keyword: fun
It was KINDA fun*

That movie must have been pure fun...and coke
Yea, he was good... but it was like The Joker playing The Riddler. Should have been casted to play The Joker instead.
Frank Gorshin from the 66 series was the same way, very zany and animated.
The Jiddler.
I forget that he played The Riddler and I think that he should have never played him i always wanted to see him play the joker
Nah u settled on the mask and ace ventura.
No it wasn't it looked like a gay Riddler
Not really the riddler during that time was a clown meant to be made fun of... 2000s and Arkham riddler stopping riddling and starting killing
Horrible movie
