Mister Basement doesn't seem like a bad guy until then. He just seems creepily annoying. But then that line happens and you realize that Mister Basement is fucked up and will do anything to talk about basements.
I love I love how he introduced the weird idea of basically underground attic and then explains away why underground attic doesn't exist makes you almost feel like this was a real story
HE STOLE HIS FUCKING HAND AND THREATENED TO KEEP IT IF HE BROUGHT ANOTHER MAN DOWN THERE TO KEEP THEM HOSTAGE. He wasn’t going to let them go normally.
Damn Neil fucked up, he only stayed in the basement 59 minutes and 43 seconds from our observable timeline given by the video, thusly he did not make the full hour required for the $100.
Credits! I can stop nagging!! I am freeeee~~ Another great short, love the editing and camera angles. Also you are the masters of the precision f-bomb strike.
i keep on coming back to watch this. the delivery on "your fucking hand!" by ryan is amazing. and i adore the colours when mr basement appears. can never go wrong with some orange and teal
And the title of Mr. Basement gets passed on. Thus repeats the ancient cycle of basement. The only way to stop it now is to find the original basement before it's too late...
Thanks! We had some trouble getting blue to expose properly on set. In post we were able to get it closer to what we wanted but had to hold back due to some graininess we'd be introducing. Two lessons learned: use gels on set & shoot with Pro Res codecs when you'll be doing serious color correction later.
You had good shadow movement over the lights near the end but the run up the stairs could have used some as well, ending with the light completely blocked off
I genuinely love this one and come back to it all the time. Everything about it is gold but my favorite moment has to be the subtly implied rivalry between basements and attics. It's so small but so good.
yeah I come back here now and then. neil videos are like a warm cuddly blanket but only large enough to cover half my torso and the rest of me is cold and empty.
Most underrated UA-cam channel, and most underrated internet person. I really feel like Neil has made the most consistent stream of content that goes underappreciated. I'm glad he gets what hits he does, but I really wish more of his stuff got attention.
Had to click on this video to find out what a basement was. I saw no basement throughout the entire thing. Come to think of it, there was this blacked out screen for a majority of the time. Was this just an April Fool's joke you forgot to upload?
I showed this to one of my friends, and for a few months or so, we managed to convince the other member of our trio that we didn't know what basements were. She got _really_ frustrated with us, until we eventually showed her the video.
I needed this today. Actually, I need a Kevin/Neil/Ryan collaboration every day. Excellent as usual, guys! Thanks for being my favourites on the 'Tube.
4:47 I just figured out what they were saying (someone has probably already done this but eh) Neil: So I was trapped in the basement and there was a guy in the basement giving all these basement facts and he took my hand and I had to bring him down and he had to kill him. - Kevin: So we were watching a movie and I told him to go down there and when he went down there was this weirdo there and I had to kill the guy
I’m way more scared of attics than I am of basements. You can’t fall through the floor but you can fall through the ceiling. Basements have no more to fall but in the attic there is nowhere to go but down.
Yay!!! So happy to see a vid from you in my subscriptions! Thanks for this gem! Glad to see the return of your actor/friend who plays Mister Basement. Great character!
I saw this under our new short, and in so glad I did lol, at first I was a little skeptical but as soon as the ball started rolling I laughed my ass off! Excellent job guys, Bravo!
4:21 The fact that that guy was aware that there _was_ a Mr. Basement, but didn’t think that this mysterious magical basement-obsessed man was him
Honestly the best joke in the whole video.
Full disclosure, this hasn't actually won any awards.
Neil Cicierega ***yet***
Well, pretty soon Guinness World Records will give you the award for the most basement facts in one film!
how could you lie to us, next thing we know you'll be telling us you aren't sponsored by nick jr!
You have officially won the award for Best Web-Exclusive Horror Short I've Seen Today! Congrats, Neil!
It may not have won any awards, but it sure has won my heart.
"Alright, John Wayne."
- John Wayne played by Neil Cicierega.
3 years and no replies?
What a funny detail
Neil isn’t even real 😔
Hello from the future
Hello from the future future
"I'll give you back your FUCKING HAND!"
Such pristine line delivery, with such a surreal line. Truly a masterclass in acting.
Mister Basement doesn't seem like a bad guy until then. He just seems creepily annoying. But then that line happens and you realize that Mister Basement is fucked up and will do anything to talk about basements.
“YOUR HAND!”
I need to know about his rival, Mister Attic.
Buddha Don't you mean *Mrs.* Attic (in the vein of, say, PowerPuff Girls/RowdyRuff Boys, Uncle Grandpa/Aunt Grandma, Chipmunks/Chippettes, etc.)?
What about their mutual enemy, mister living room?
FemurDream he won’t hurt you, too high, surprised he didn’t overdose, doesn’t even care about attics, just drugs
I’m ur 69th like
your creepy emo cousin boy living room.
What a cool idea. If only basements were real!
@@teamcyeborg Hahahaha you ruined the joke!
@@jubbybubby Hmm? The news was that a horse's teeth take up more space in their head than their brain

Neil, please put us in your basement. We're up to the challenge. 107 Facts YOU need to know about basements.
I'll give you 100 bucks!
Hire this man now, the internet demands it!
What's a basement?
Neil needs to be a part of Channel Frederator!
ChannelFrederator Basement?
I feel bad for Mister Basement, he only wanted to help people achieve the full utility potential of their basements.
Are you saying the end justified the means?
nice pfp
He took his hand think of all the other things he could of done
the panoramic sundial like take his other hand.

Hey, at least mr. basement is gone!
Him heading upstairs makes up for the missing time
I get so pumped everytime Neil uploads and I am never let down.
Neil's cool and all but have you heard of the High Elves?
@@TurtleeyTY nice
If anybody wants to make Ryan's day, his one hope on set was as follows:
"I really hope somebody draws a creepy version of Mr. Basement."
I'm on it!
Credits! I can stop nagging!! I am freeeee~~
Another great short, love the editing and camera angles. Also you are the masters of the precision f-bomb strike.
prof-byona.tumblr.com/post/159285046426/in-canada-historically-the-basement-area-was I'm not sure this is creepy enough but here u go
You'll have made him the happiest man on Earth.
Mind if we share this on the Facebook page with a link to your Tumblr?
Ryan deserves EGOT status for his delivery of the line "You're not going to the attic, are you?"
i keep on coming back to watch this. the delivery on "your fucking hand!" by ryan is amazing. and i adore the colours when mr basement appears. can never go wrong with some orange and teal
_"Which way to the basement?"_ is my favourite line when entering someone's home for the first time.
These guys really know the value of a well placed emphatic fucking.
"…Your fucking hand."
"There's a fucking snake in it."
Perfect.
See, the ending wasn't scary, because Neil and his friend could just easily pattent the 'basement' and get a shit load of money from selling it.
???? What's a basement
I think at this point it's literally impossible to reinvent the basement. The concept of it has been entirely erased.
Not if he becomes the new embodiment of basements.
And the title of Mr. Basement gets passed on. Thus repeats the ancient cycle of basement. The only way to stop it now is to find the original basement before it's too late...
Mr. Basement would get resurrected and seek revenge.
best lighting you've guys have ever done
Thanks!
We had some trouble getting blue to expose properly on set. In post we were able to get it closer to what we wanted but had to hold back due to some graininess we'd be introducing.

I was just going to say that, I love the camera work when Neil first goes down into the [REDACTED]
You had good shadow movement over the lights near the end but the run up the stairs could have used some as well, ending with the light completely blocked off
Jeremy Dumont Yeah, we did a few takes and those were our best ones. I think Neil and I were the only ones present by that point.
1:50 There is something about the way he says "And the fuse. Box!" that fucking kills me every time
the delivery of "That was *Mister* Basement?!" makes me come back over and over
I love how he emphasizes the word basement every time he says it.
Strong language for Nick Jr.
I had to choke my kids out to keep them from hearing it. We're never having this filth on again in this house.
how dare you call Neil filth.
DuhBunnyLord Don't talk to me like that in front of my kids.
I'm sorry for my strong language, man creature
sick burn
I can never hear “My basement” in My Trains the same ever again-
i can only hear "my basement" as in how its said in my trains help
I wish I had a basement. (not the kind in this video, a nice one) No one in my town has basements :/ Well, except 1 rich famous dead guy.
Oh wow, you should explore it alone and videotape yourself doing it. I'm sure you'll be perfectly fine and nothing weird at all will happen
What's a basement?
what's a basement?
@Jacob Harrison uhhhh because he's very famous and everyone in the world knows he's been dead since the 1960s
when he d¡ed

a basement
it does my heart good to know you guys are still making dumb fun stuff like this
It does mine some good as well.
Dear Neil,
Please upload videos like this roughly 40 times a day.
Sincerely,
RiverOfWetness468
RiverOfWetness468 We'd love to make more but time + money become real hindrances.
You shouldn't have let the president burn down your money tree, man!
So what you're saying is that if someone builds a time machine then it'd be possible?
If we had a money tree we'd be making stuff like this monthly.
no just this video 40 times. this exact video
Five hours ago?
A Neil Ciciergea film?
In MY life time?
I can't believe it.
Hasn't happened to me yet

"Your HAAAAAAAND" is going to be my ringtone forever
"Imagine a world without basements!"
Ever been to Florida?
Dear god! Where will the boilers go?!
TheFatMoe houses floor spaces will expand.... increasing urban spread... cheating many out of their land!!! basements are crucial to this world!!
probably in a closet, or under a staircase
Mine is in the garage
I used to live in a house with no basement. The boiler goes into the closet of shame and blinky lights along with the furnace, right where it belongs.
Mine is in my room in a cupboard
Did Kevin ever give Neil that check for $100 for staying an hour in his...in his....huh?
[shrug]
Kevin, you owe Neil $100 for something...
4 years and no replies?
Apparently it wasn't an hour
He was in there ALONE for 58 minutes 40 seconds before Mister [REDACTED] showed up, so he doesn't get $100.
"The basement isn't that scary."

When basements are anti-memes
Znijik_the_Zed the fuck is a basement? Is it like some outdated thing from 2 years ago?
No they were in the attic
I'm starting to question which award this short film won. My best guess is that it won "best in show" at the Westminster dog show.
“like the boiler, and the fuse. BOX.”
Another awesome video you guys! :)
jordan like neil :O
@@adp7583 yes. Yes I know. Everyone does.

An excellent addition to the basement motif introduced in Escape From the Basement and Got Your Nose
I'm surprised about the lack of train jokes in this comment section
Same. But everyone knows Neil doesn’t like lemon demons music. He thinks it’s annoying and stupid.
I was soo hoping that Mister Basement would be Ryan doing his Jack White voice...
...I was not dissapointed
I love how all of the characters have names, and then there's just

Yeah, it looks like there should be something important
No
I love how The Coward just forgets that John Wayne was in the basement for the last hour.
Nice try Neil, but I know a Dunkin Donuts commercial when I see one.

During the start I almost thought they were gonna have a knife fight
I'm imagining all of the writer's search histories being filled with variations of 'What are some interesting basement facts?'
Ryan is insanely good in this I just had to come back
I hate it when someone steals my "fucking hand". Totally relatable.
The credits joke of Neil’s character actually being named John Wayne is so good
Reminds me of pulp fiction where the restaurant manager was credited as "coffee shop"
It angers me that this still only has 92k views.

But we have enough supernatural phenomena to make up for the lack of basementhood.

" yeah . "
Seems like you guys just bought a wide-angle lens and wanted to use it. I love it.
I got a 14mm a few months before this shoot. I had to discipline myself into only using it a few times, otherwise it would have lost its luster.
be careful going down into the basement... you might leave something behind
