This is terrific! Who doesn't remember all five lined up in the 70s with the guitars blazing too! Happy days indeed! Thanks! Buck you hero! Thanks Eric...Happy retirement Allen....and thanks to Al and Joe and all who played in her...
Rick Downey might not play with the subtlety of Al Bouchard, but I freakin' love what he does in this song -- pure energy and great timing. Buck Dharma looks totally comfortable knockin' out that first solo with this man behind the kit, and that's good enough for me.
I saw b.o.c six concerts from 1971 until 1979..unbelievable band ..so unrated ! !! They also help & build the band the dictators . .that band tried to reproduce the image & sound of b.o.c ! They had a good run too.
Albert had a more refined style when he was with them, though I guess that comes with drumming for a world-famous band for 9 years. Still, gotta love Downey's enthusiasm. It brings some raw power and energy to the band, which, in songs like this, s just amazing. Really transforms the whole thing.
A couple things that I love about this clip: Allen Lanier laying down some fucking solid leads on the guitar, Buck wearing that ridiculous gold outfit but being able to pull it off because he's such a badass, and although Al Bouchard is gone by this point, the rest of the band is clearly at a high point performance-wise. Too bad there isn't a clip on YT of this song with all original BOC members.
I saw them in concert 3 times and they always cooked! This version is one of the best. I still like the original too from the Tyranny and Mutation album.
Canadian mounted baby, a police force that works Red and black, that's their color scheme Get their man, in the end It's all right (repeat four more times) Oh yeah my honey knows it's all right It's all right (repeat four more times) Oh yeah my baby knows it's all right C'mon little husky Frontenac Chateau baby I'll cross the frontier at ten Got a whip in my hand baby And a girl or a husky at leather's end
I just read an interview with Joe where he explains that Buck showed him (Rick) how to play many of the drum parts for BOC songs ... Buck could play Lead guitar, Bass guitar, drums & keyboards (he's kinda talented) ...
' One of The Greatest Live Albums during my early Adolesence "Extraterrestrial Live ".This tune, "Veteran..", & of Coarse "Godzilla" constantly had cranked!!..
yes, as a matter of fact i did see the shows with a vast array of lasers. and fireworks. two or three new year's shows plus a few others. thankfully buck was not wearing a gold toga. :o) laser light gets super bright when it hits the cloud of smoke in the arena. they had red and green which sometimes made a sheet of light that panned up and down. plus mirror balls. that was sooooo awesome. back then i heard about one kid having temporary blindness from the red laser and was suing. ??
Great stuff Billy, great stuff. If there's any video of "Astronomy" in that vault of yours...... "Live 1976" was an embarrassment as far as audio quality goes, & I've never seen a good quality video of "Astronomy" ala vintage-era BOC.

Allen Lanier is the most underrated musician in the history of rock and roll.

Got to see blowers to court over a half a dozen times in concert always great.
I loved when Allen would play guitar, guitar wars.

mddg1515 the original is off the first album and it’s call “I’m on the lamb but I ain’t no sheep”
I just saw BOC in Aspen and Denver, they seem to have never been better. The new members of the band have added new life to a rock legend.
I can hear so many later bands from this song....Great song....

Learn a thing or two? They could learn how to create MUSIC.
What are they singing at the end of the chorus ? It sounds like "peculiar mane" or something, all the online lyrics I've found don't have that line.
you'd kill you'd maim
cheers
+oyster boy Thanks! I always thought they were saying "You're killing me man!" or something along those lines.
So the drummer "bangs like a meathead" does he ? In that case I wish I could drum like a meathead ! That's some kick ass drumming !
He doesn't have the swing and misses cues on some of critical points of songs..... I guess ever body hears something different don't they....??
I just read an interview with Joe where he explains that Buck showed him (Rick) how to play many of the drum parts for BOC songs ... Buck could play Lead guitar, Bass guitar, drums & keyboards (he's kinda talented) ...
