Thank you for putting out these tutorials, Neil. Really useful. I have a question if you don't mind.
If you are cutting together lots of different takes (for a scripted project), would you apply the normalization / compression to each clip before beginning editing? Or wait until you have a finished cut so as not to adjust clips which might not be used?
    Many thanks.

They say dialogue should sit at an average of around -12DB in terms of volume/loudness levels in the mix. If this is true... shouldn't your last and final step in editing dialogue audio be to normalize the dialogue clips to -12DB? Or perhaps slightly over -12DB.. so the peaks hit -11DB but generally sit at -12DB?

      They say?

@@neilcollinsrecording , yeah.. like.. isn't that broadcast recommendations..or.. an industry standard? For example... Epidmeic Sound has a blog post about this topic and in it they say that dialogue should sit between -18.DB & -9.DB, which -12.DB is close to the middle of. . . ?

@@Jays_Highway go with what whoever ‘they’ are then? I’ve taken the time to give you my take on it. People can get very anal about these things

@@neilcollinsrecording , why does it seem like you are you taking offence from what I am saying/asking here? C'mon bro... I'm simply stating what I understand and looking for someone to confirm if it is correct/not from others in the UA-cam community. ....?

I had the same question@@Jays_Highway, I've seen different guidance. I am guessing that over time different production companies asked for audio to be submitted at different levels (for film/TV, for commercial VO, etc.) depending on the use case. There is a reason behind each different recommendation, we just don't know what it is and then it circulates as the ideal level. I guess we can both relax haha. We know where the ballpark is, get in there and play.
