My dad was dying of cancer in the hospital while this song was playing on the radio. when I hear this song it reminds me of him and the struggle we fought together to the end. Unfortunately the disease was stronger, but he stays in my heart and memory and lives through the song.
"I heard this song in November 1987 after experiencing a super stressful situation, and it lifted my spirits incredibly. I couldn't figure out what band it was, and I never heard it again. I spent years trying to find out the song and the band, but I never came across it again, although the melody was engraved in my brain. I tried several times to find it on UA-cam and even with apps where you hum a song and it searches for the closest matches. A couple of days ago, I smoked a joint and searched on UA-cam for 'best songs of 1987,' and a video with 140 songs (about 10 seconds of each song) popped up. Around the middle of the video, 'Johnny B' by The Hooters appeared, and I got a shot of adrenaline, tremendous excitement (amplified by the joint) hearing again the song I had listened to 37 years ago!! Amazing!"
I also heard it on the radio, typed "Johnny B" into the search bar since he kept saying it in the song and it immediately came up. Wasn't the hardest song to track down tbh.

Mate.... it doesn't HAVE TO be a struggle. It's only a struggle so long as you're convinced your drug of choice was the best thing ever in your entire life and you can't see yourself doing without it. But it is possible to acquire a different mindset. I was heavily addicted to heroin. Never could imagine not being that way. Yet here I am, and you could put me in a room full of junkies shooting up and it would leave me cold. It didn't require a 'programme' or some type of religious salvation. Just realising that I could do without it, and I got there all by myself. Most people do.

I love the atmosphere and feel of the Hooters. They have a cool blend of mixing folk music with Rock and the synths are not overused and actually compliment the song unlike in many other 80s bands. Oh yes. Very much so. Listening to this song now, in December 2021, with so many friends gone forever, the saddest part is actually that this time is over. Has been over for a long time.

There is many people who have Lost friends because of drugs. I wonder how I've survived and I'm as old as I'm now. It IS surprise that I'm not Been in grave long time
First of all The Hooters, Eric Brazilian, Rob Hyman and the others, are very talented, great musicians & songwriters. They play and mix different music genres. For example do they not only typical 1980-ies synth pop, but put folk elements into it. This makes their sound unique. The Hooters have many great songs. On stage they sing and perform with passion and joy. With all that after 43 years (in 2023) one of the best live bands.

Let me tell I like trap, gym motivation and electronic music. However 70s-80s-90s rock, metal, pop, country and rock n roll music are unique. We cant stop listening to them. They are all-time. And they are quality songs. so I think that on 2050 many people will still listen to these songs. In addition i believe that in 10years old rock will brcome again a hit like trap... I am waiting for this time! I am optimism and i am almost sure that rock will be listened by us on ten years like it was on 1980.
I have to disappoint you, I had the same thinking 10 years ago, it still hasn’t happened, but I hope one thing, when this world disappears, that someone will save these songs for future generations
One of the best rock songs for sure. Amazing production, talent, execution and haunting feeling through the whole song. And the guitar work god damn. Everything falls into place in this one. If this song doesn't drive you to tears then something is wrong with you:) And the whole record is amazing. Thanks Hooters.
Боже...Как же я долго искал эту это чудо,любимая песня моего детства! _____________________________________________Lord...How I long searched for this is a miracle,a favorite song of my childhood!
The lyrics of this song can be taken many ways. I always saw it as a friend trying to tell his best friend that the girl he's fallen for and is obsessed with is not good for him and is using him.
+Marto Graves Both u & Ray could b right. If u simply listen 2 the song it could b a dude saying bros b4 hos to a friend that will fall in love and get his heart broken by a slut ho who'll cheat on him, but the vid is obviously about a junkie. Love the song becuz it is pop music, but it has some balls to it and a dark sort of feel. Sry 4 the abbrs I was on Twtiter b4 and only get 140 there.
I like songs that have somewhat vague lyrics. That way, whatever the original inspiration was, you can also find many parellel situations where they still make sense to you.
Isn't that the point with good lyrics, they can be interpreted many ways. That's also why many musicians are reluctant to discuss their lyrics, they don't want to ruin the experience for the listener.
For me its about two guys and one girl. And I would say that the second male person warn johnny B about this snake of a girl. The singer - or the person about - know that she uses him, but he don't see. Instead of this girl person three would wish for a chance from johnny, sounds for me like this :3

Let me tell
I like trap, gym motivation and electronic music. I am optimism and i am almost sure that rock will be listened by us on ten years like it was on 1980.
we wish that rock music will be the king of music again!
I have to disappoint you, I had the same thinking 10 years ago, it still hasn’t happened, but I hope one thing, when this world disappears, that someone will save these songs for future generations
Such a great song. That darkness is never far away- if one succumbs
This is a MASTERPIECE. People...This is ART.
I guess this is the best video clip ever created for a song; better than most of 2 hour movies. No need to mention that the song is fantastic.
This was a music video.. we use to make these years ago when MTV was just music videos
@@HeathenTrucker more than a music video for me; never get to bored of watching it 🙌 Piece of art for a precious song!
_____________________________________________Lord...How I long searched for this is a miracle,a favorite song of my childhood!
тебе сколько лет?
Eric Bazilian, Rob Hyman, John Lilley, David Uosikkinen, Fran Smith Jr. - You guys still rock! Thanks for the great music lasting until today!
old school is the best
The lyrics of this song can be taken many ways. I always saw it as a friend trying to tell his best friend that the girl he's fallen for and is obsessed with is not good for him and is using him.
+Ray King for me its more of a heroin song, as johnny knows the heroin is bad but still buys it
+Marto Graves Both u & Ray could b right.
