Great short history! You capture the scale of the revolution that bicycles initiated. I think ridership depends on country and class. In US and Europe, bicycles at first were a plaything of the well-to-do . As prices dropped, they became a, mainstay of the middle and working classes. In some European countries, ridership was high through WW2. China of course was the Kingdom of Bicycles starting in the 50s. For all our sakes, I hooe we go back to the bicycle as the major mode of transportation.

Yes, I owned a Rover!...a 3.5ltr V8. The P6b was the poor mans Jaguar of the 1970s but it was so nice to drive.
