It's hardcore to see the Comengs in action still. Lot's of memories of when they used run the 3 car sets in the 80's and 90's late at night with only the first carriage with lights on doors opening. plenty of mischief back then. Great video!
Nice Video. Good to see an old friend again still running for the moment. I remember the day of the first run for the Comeng series. It had orange lines on the side with the old Vicrail logo didn’t seem that much time that it changed to the Met green as we did with our uniforms. This was the first time we ever had an air-conditioned train in service. You could smell the newness and from memory the carpet was a brown colour that looked really nice, nothing like something brand new and so clean. Watching the trains come and go you had to wait a while to see another of the new Comeng trains as we only had one for the line and it had to go to Melbourne and back. The Hitachi Trains were nice when they came out too, really comfortable, but you were locked in a metal train and in summertime it was sooo hot for the passengers. At least you could open the windows. Could you imagine passengers today siting in a non-air-condition train day in day out during the summer. Freezing in the cold with no heating. They did that for decades. Then the new trains came out with heating and cooling. With the red swing doors train you had to shut the door but with the Tait train and Harris trains everybody always left the doors open, no closing doors in those days. Once a gentleman went to get off the train thinking he was at the station, it was thick fog, but he was not at a station, as the train stopped at a signal, he jumped off a Bridge. That can never happen again now thank goodness.
let's now nickname this set the MVP!!! Honestly the repair really was unexpected. Thankfully could still catch a few of em a few months ago. Hope to get more in the future before they're completely gone but it's very challenging by then unless you're a regular commuter
yeah, the types to run the red light at a normal intersection because it looks safe, but they forget that the red lights at a level crossing aren't a suggestion, its backed up by tons of thundering steel that will not avoid you. trains can't swerve. there is no mercy.
I just looked on the Level Crossing Removal Project's website, more specifically the map showing which crossings are going away. Anderson Street in Yarraville is on that map.
Heard about the Spotswood level crossing removal, hopefully Yarraville comes soon too, but with current regulations I bet they're having a difficult time figuring out a way to make straight platforms possible at Yarraville due to space constraints
that intro was so trippy, i had the volume exactly right on my audio passthrough earbuds, i legitimately thought i heard a metro announcement in my house
I think on your right hand side of the front carriage of EDI Comeng 514M there is a little bit of black paintings that is covering the connex livery after damage.
The one good thing about Anderson St is it's quite a narrow street, thus doesn't see a lot of traffic and when it does it's usually not travelling at speed. The trains most certainly are though.
EDIs will be withdrawn from when the first X'Trapolis 2.0 train enters service, so probably have around 12 months left yet before the withdrawals and scrapping starts again.
That's the straightest looking curvy platform I've ever seen! The particular problem there is the level crossing and express service combination. Sounding the horn at that speed is pointless.
Maybe you should do a video on where and when can you ride an EDI Comeng the most that includes the Williamstown Werribee Sunbury Craigieburn Upfield Frankston and Sandringham lines
514M has now been fully patched up. This rough repair/paint job is no more. The yellow front and the blue stripe has been painted on, almost as if nothing happened… but the blue stripe is obviously new :)
The level crossing is due to be completely closed, cars will have to cross the line via a bridge to the north or underpass to the south (which already exist)

Yeah, I forgot about that. When I carried the staff down to the driver, the first time I saw it I thought that was a bit strange at the time.

How times have changed. Thanks for your stories and perspective!
@@StrayaTrains EDI Comeng is my fav type of Metro train in Melbourne, the Alstom one is kinda weird looking.

I honestly didn't expect this to have been as recent as you said it was. Interesting video.
Thanks :)
It's interesting that they didn't swap on the front off a decommissioned EDI Comeng.
Probs too much effort
Yes. Most likely didn't need to be swapped
People are stupid. They go through when the lights are going. It's their fault

Yes. But not for a while
I saw comeng 513m and 514m on vicsig saying that it was at cragieburn workshops before the rvb replacement
as a person who always uses the Yarraville line, it can be very dangerous because of how close the trains get to the crossing !
Heard about the Spotswood level crossing removal, hopefully Yarraville comes soon too, but with current regulations I bet they're having a difficult time figuring out a way to make straight platforms possible at Yarraville due to space constraints
The car ran around with a massive chunk missing for quite a while you could see the original front under the EDI shell

Lol
Very surprised that 514M was actually repaired intead of being written off after that nasty leval crossing accident.
Considering the Comeng trains are being recycled and replaced it’s surprising

People “trains are so dangerous they need to be removed.” Also people: Drive in front of them at a level crossing
I SAW THAT AT FLINDERS STREET WEEKS AGO
Nice
@@StrayaTrains at the same day i also saw frankston services platform 4 and 5. is this special

nice. though how come you're not allowed to film/record a bit of the cab?
Not sure the actual reason as to why it's a rule. It just is not allowed
@@StrayaTrains Ah ok. I find it a bit odd, but good to know. At least I know now to not do that haha
What happend to the horns on comengs, can you buy the rvb 3?
Being replaced. And not sure if you can buy RVBs
You can but train horns are super expensive
when i got off a upfield train after the zoo, in anzac day, I SAW 514M BUT WASNT FILMING😭😭😭😭😭

hey did you see the pascoe vale station level crossing accident?
Heard about it. Very sad

Oh wow that was quick
i see 513 - 514m consistently on the craigieburn line, no more repairs
Express trains should not have level crossing. "It's not safe anymore ". Build a bridge. Regards 🇿🇦.

Bruh why does some comeng have warning sticker?
I’ve broke both of those rules ,
I broke “forcing doors” mostly
all of the ones I've been on have had this on the doors, it's bullcrap
2:42 I like edi comeng
So what course the damage
Car
It like people on train tracks
Can we now call it the “bondo express”?
to be removed in 2029😊
Bro why didn’t you do it then instead of now it’s lile 3 months ago 😂😂😂
Because the train only came back into service less than 2 weeks ago.
Yarraville is NOT a dangerous level crossing. Idiots who stop on crossings or cross train lines against the booms, bells and lights are dangerous.
Excellent video, I would donate if I have money (I hope to when I do)
Thanks!
I wish it was Alstom and retire not Repair

Bro 💀💀💀
Apart from all the upgrades of the alstom comeng they're literally the same thing the front of just different
@@justanaturalcarguy4031 Alstom has the loud af engine,
I like edi ones better
They sound the same for me
The loud thing you hear is the compressor which you can also hear on the edi comeng
