Engineer's side window on the M420 is an 'all weather' window. We had a TC10 (ex-NS GP9 rebuild) that had windows like that. It gave a little cover for the engineer while driving the thing with the inside windows open.
Rapido has certainly found quite a way to clear their shelves out. Honestly, I'd love to see other companies do this from time to time as well, because I think the concept is neat and I'm sure some nerd could make a gacha joke out of it.
Its a great concept and good value. This is a great way to expose people to other products they may not have considered while still providing excellent products. Lookingforwrd to the 2024 mystert boxes.
SMT Mainline, your videos have been the thing that have kept me going in the model railroading hobby. Most of my locomotives and rolling stock are from vintage train sets, meaning a lot of my locomotives are not great performers. Sometimes I just want to give up and sell all my model trains, until I watch your videos and see you fixing locomotives that seem to be in a hopeless state. It makes me realize that all hope is not lost for my model trains. Your videos keep me going in the hobby some days. Sometimes when I'm at my lowest I watch your videos and feel better, because watching you fix things makes me smile. Thanks for everything. - Rambling Railfan
The delay with the DCC movement at first is because a diesel takes a while to warm up before it will rev enough to pull the train in real life. The delay is actually more prototypical.😂
Hi Smt from california i love this video, I come home everyday from school and the first thing i do is i watch your videos. Keep up the great content!!
I have a small fictional section of the Roseville sub division from 1951. My layout is heavily based off your 4x8 layout with the twice around concept. Right now its just the foam board the foam ramp some tack and a few buildings. Got about 30 cars and 10 locos, most from around 1970 from my dads model layout.
Those "Rapido's bestselling Mystery Box" are nuts 259.95 USD and 299.95 CAD that's a BIG steal, I would highly recommend getting at least 2 if you have a budget but if you have more go get more of those, these boxes are great yeah you don't know what's inside but that's the fun part about them. CAD 4 boxs 299.95 x 4 = 1199.8 USD 4 boxs 259.95 x 4 = 1039.8
Rapido's really well known for their quality, quirky mechanisms, and their honesty in Britain, and they're basically the best when it comes to American diesel models too (ALCO RS 11 for example)
The "waiting" for the locomotives to go is a realistic operation... building up the air pressure. Rapido is great, those CN police cars are awesome. John BC
Wow this is actually really cool. I didn't know they had mystery boxes. I seen the price and I gotta say what you get is actually worth the money. Awesome. I should probably look at getting one for next year if they do it. Beautiful rolling stock
I'm new to the hobby and collecting materials for my first layout. I have enjoyed watching your repair videos and have learned a lot, thank you for sharing the information
Very nice presentation Harrison. It is good to see companies like Rapido offering equipment along with their locomotives for model rail enthusiast. I like early on that Canada had the safety cab built into their locomotives such as the M420. Very impressive. Thank you for sharing and bringing new and interesting aspects available in the model train world. Seasons greetings!
The mystery box seems like a really awesome way for them to get products out to people who might not be able to buy all of that stuff at once and it help get inventory down to make space for new inventory. I might have to look into getting one sometime.
Merry Christmas. You inspire me Harrison, keep doing what you do. Merry Christmas enjoy running your trains through the holidays. Love your videos. I think you got a great gift from Rapido this year, I continue to be amazed by what I love in this hobby because years ago I didn’t think I would be loving the E8s and the M420. But now I might have to order this myself next Christmas.
Wish I would of known about this sooner. My son would have loved this for a present. Maybe this will be the start of a Christmas tradition. Sure do hope that other manufacturers do this. Merry Christmas and thanks for all the great vids.
Hi Harrison, they were amazing mystery boxes, so generous. I have never heard of the concept down here in Tasmania. You certainly got your money's worth, love watching your videos Cheers Steve
Hey, I still haven't gotten an email. Could you email scrumptiousmodeltrains@gmail.com or give me your email to get an address to ship your diesel to? Thanks Harrison
These are some nice-looking locomotives and rolling stock. Love the mystery box idea, you can essentially buy yourself a Christmas gift and still have it be a surprise!
This was so fun to watch Harrison, the Go Transit was my favorite. I hope that you got my letter earlier this year asking about advice on making a first layout...the one you have been working on has given me lots of ideas!
Very nice looking locos ! And those boxes have great value for their price. Hope I will find the same here in Europe with french trains from the 70´s. Thanks for sharing !!
Merry Christmas SMT. A friend got me the Bachmann Yardmaster set for a Christmas present, I was surprised at the crawl speed it had, it will be a good engine for slow shunting when my family gets our layout build. We had found a mostly complete Woodland scenics grand valley layout set for 40 US dollars at a yard sale a few years back and we are finally getting started building it.
Harrison, keep the videos coming! My boys and I love watching what you're unboxing or fixing next! They have just got into model railroading and they love your videos on the new layout you are making! 😎🚂
Love all the videos you do. Ran across your channel learning how to fix a couple locomotives that I picked up for my two young boys. It has been a while since I played with trains, about 30 years. I picked up a mystery box after watching your video! Cant wait to see what is in the box. I currently have a Athearn set from late 50’s early 60’s. Yellow boxes right before blue box. Everything is running smoothly thanks to your videos! And I am building a HO layout with my boys!
Harrison, Thank you so much for all the interesting, informative, educational and entertaining videos that you present. I hope that you and your family have a wonderful holiday season. Rich
I would have loved to have ordered one of those. However the CP D-10 # 962 that I ordered 4 years ago was finally delivered just before Christmas. Great timing on Rapido’s part. Perhaps next year. Merry Christmas Harrison, looks like Santa came early for you!
Hello smt Mainline, My mom lets me use her phone to watch your videos. I'm a newer collector from Michigan and I have learned a lot from you. My collection is really small and I love model trains.I learned how to fix my commutator and my wheel displacement on my Great northern railway steam locomotive. Over all you are so good at fixing model trains. I wish I was as good as you. Have a Merry Christmas Sincerely Sam
I love to enter your give away. I really think Rapido Trains' mystery boxes are really neat. I think you get a lot of bank for your buck with the neat things you get inside.
Very nice locos and rolling stock. Cool idea of the mystery box. I think some British manufacturers sell a similar mystery box idea. Thanks again for all your videos and the work you put in to helping all of us repair and maintain our locomotives! Take care and Merry Christmas to you and your family! Happy Holidays to all!!
Quite an impressive haul! I just ordered one of these boxes myself and a club friend just opened his up tonight. Since Rapido has really stepped up their game as far as quality and details these mystery boxes should prove to be a huge hit with fans and a decent boon for Rapido. Hope you pick me for the give away but I'm not expecting to 'win' it. Love your channel and videos. Keep up the interesting work.
The M420 in the 3500 series were based out of Moncton NB and were seen of just about every train in the maritimes in the 90s from working in yards to on mainline freights. As someone else mentioned the window on the engineer side is an all weather window, CN added these to many switchers and road units.
Hi Harrison. I thoroughly enjoy your channel and apparently Jeff and Cameron keep telling me how I missed you at Larks Spur Line. One day we will cross paths. For the last couple of years I have been building up my DC layout which was boxed up in 1981 and didn’t see the running light of day until last Fall. So exciting. Please add me to your Rapido contest. You truly are inspiring and have helped me revive some old engines and memories that I reshape with my father. A new Rapido would be awesome. Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!
I haven't been to Larkspur in a couple months but I intend to go back soon, Jeff and Cameron are both great guys. Glad to hear you're getting back into the hobby, I almost left myself 7 years ago and I would have regretted it.
Hello, and a very Merry Christmas to you SMT, your videos have helped me to get into the model railroading hobby, and help me work on my own locomotives, good luck with your projects, and Happy Holidays.
Hey, SMT! Hope you have a great Christmas this year! I'm new to the hobby and only have 1 train, it's not very good, it sparks a lot and I don't have a layout, yet! I'm excited to start working on it! Have a great new year!!
I found most of the esu decoders found in rapido locomotives need you to press F8 to “start” the locomotive. If I ever run into a short on my layout I usually have to power it down and reset the functions before starting it back up to run normally. Might explain some of the hesitation you experienced trying to run them back to back on DCC. Great locomotives! I’ve been eyeing that Canadian Pacific E8 in the maroon paint with grey stripes and the classic Beaver logo for a long time. Beautiful paint scheme! Keep It up! Love to watch your videos!
What a great way to enjoy the excitement of the holidays! Thanks for taking the time to share this with all of us & letting us know about these awesome mystery boxes!! Wishing you a Merry Christmas & a Happy New Year filled with a lot more train adventures!!🎄🎅🤠
Merry Christmas Harrison!!! This was a great treat! I have always been a fan of Rapido. I think they do a fair amount of research before building models. I would love to own one!
Great products, at an unbelievable deal. I always enjoy your videos Harrison, I've learned a lot about repairing locomotives by following along with you. Keep the videos coming, thanks.
Just getting started into model railroading I think I’m going to get one of these to help start my collection, absolutely a big fan of the CN trains and stock so fingers crossed I get one like that.
Very very cool. Would love one of those. Thanks for the video. Never have tried a mystery box, but I think I may save up and try one next year. Merry Christmas!!!!!!
I really like the camera shots in this video, was able to see the great detail on your layout. Also, it’s very nice to see those Rapido trains running on the layout. Thanks for the great video and for what you do for the model train community and great contests, Merry Christmas.

Hello from Hoboken Ga. Love the show. My grandson and I have fun watching. Thanks for keeping the hobby alive.
Hi, I'm glad to see that you posted today. I usually am in tennesee, but this week I went to p.a. can't weight to see the ho shops here.
Merry Christmas. Great to celebrate the birthday of the savior with the generosity of the spirit of the season. You are a wonderful person Harrison.
Thank you so much!
The delay with the DCC movement at first is because a diesel takes a while to warm up before it will rev enough to pull the train in real life. The delay is actually more prototypical.😂
Great video! Your videos have inspired my son and I to get into trains and start our own layout, thank you for all the information you provide!
I love to see your love of the hobby and your expertise on display. Keep inspiring and Merry Christmas.
Merry Christmas, Harrison! Thanks for spreading the joy of model railroading and sharing with us your can-do spirit.
Those Canadian National and Canadian Pacific locomotives look pretty cool :) They are also 2 of my favorite companies.
What a great idea from a great Canadian company! Thanks, SMT, for showcasing this to all of us. I know Rapido must love that you are promoting this!
Harrison love the mystery boxes keep up the good work. Love the channel
Really good value from the mystery box! Would love the E8! 🥰 Thank you for the consideration. Happy Holidays!
Happy holidays!

Wow, the M420 is one of the most beautiful locomotives I have seen!, Good for You!
I thought I was done buying train stuff until I watched this video. Darn you Harrison. Now to go put my order in.

That’s a really great idea that Rapido had! Selling their items below retail value is a pretty Christmas spirit-y thing to do!
Mystery boxes - what a fun idea. Beautiful locomotives too.
The "waiting" for the locomotives to go is a realistic operation... building up the air pressure.
Rapido is great, those CN police cars are awesome. John BC
They only did that the on the first start up which I find strange.
Really nice to see everything with no issues… have seen stuff unlike that with issues in the past before so…😊
Wow this is actually really cool. I didn't know they had mystery boxes. I seen the price and I gotta say what you get is actually worth the money. Awesome. I should probably look at getting one for next year if they do it. Beautiful rolling stock
You should have run those e8’s as a consist, I think it would have been really cool!
I'm new to the hobby and collecting materials for my first layout. I have enjoyed watching your repair videos and have learned a lot, thank you for sharing the information
These are really cool and I wish I have those trains
My son loves watching all of your content.
Me and my daughter enjoyed watching these trains go around your layout ❤

I have to say that to me, these are indeed a great value. I may have to look into getting one for next year. Thanks for all that you do for the hobby.
All of these trains are pretty and would look great on any layout
Midwest Model RR also has a mystery box program. Loved watching this video.
Nice haul, I agree the attention to detail is exemplary.
Great unboxing. Didn’t know they were selling these mystery boxes. I am thinking about ordering one. Thanks for sharing. 🚂💨

Keep up the great work! Awesome deal, glad someone had mentioned this to you and taking them up on it.
Looks like Christmas came early. Very cool locos and rolling stock. Another great unboxing. From Texas

Agreed. This will be my first modern loco and my first taste of DCC. Looking forward to what ever comes :).
Harrison,
Thank you so much for all the interesting, informative, educational and entertaining videos that you present. I hope that you and your family have a wonderful holiday season.
Rich
Thank you, I appreciate that.
Have to say I love that 420, so you know set, I think the front door can be opened on them. I hope you have a great Christmas and wonderful new years!

These boxes are very cool! I prefer the M420 out of all of them, but that's just me. Thanks for reviewing these!
Harrison your excellent happiest give me a lot of knowledge appreciate the time you take
What a great haul there. You should have a play around with all the sound functions - Rapido put some fun ones in the 20's.
Gotta say those rapido engines look really good, been thinking of adding a few to my layout
They're great locomotives, got a pair B36-7s and a pair of U25Bs from them, they all run fantastic! Even have a C30-7 pre ordered!
I love to enter your give away. I really think Rapido Trains' mystery boxes are really neat. I think you get a lot of bank for your buck with the neat things you get inside.

Sure we’re! Gordon shops in Moncton were the MLW whisperers, they knew every trick to keeping an Alco going.
amazing dcc locomotives. I have always been impressed by rapido's quality and just the way they look. Good purchases SMT
Happy Holidays SMT faithful!
It seems that the population and traffic in the layout has increased. Looks great!
May your wishes come true this holiday season, merry christmas/happy holidays, and a happy New Year to everyone in this small but well loved community
WOW! Nice haul!! Those engines are very quiet! Merry Christmas!!
What a nice video, Christmas Box is a nice idea, I wished other manufacturers did something similar. As always great job…

Hello, and a very Merry Christmas to you SMT, your videos have helped me to get into the model railroading hobby, and help me work on my own locomotives, good luck with your projects, and Happy Holidays.
Looked the mystery box up online and I think I’ll order one myself. Merry Christmas and thank you for sharing!
Hey, SMT! Hope you have a great Christmas this year! I'm new to the hobby and only have 1 train, it's not very good, it sparks a lot and I don't have a layout, yet! I'm excited to start working on it! Have a great new year!!
Very cool unboxing video! I wondered what Rapido was putting in them, and now we know x4.
This will go great with my sons layout. He is just starting out and would be an amazing addition!

What a haul! Sweet mail call. Merry Christmas, Harrison, and to all SMT followers who celebrate Christmas!
loved the idea of the mystery box. So cool. Thanks and Merry Christmas!!!
Nice E8 locomotives! What a fun idea of Xmas mystery boxes! I’ll have to buy one for myself.
Love this video, it was like opening our own christmas trains! Amazed at the value of the boxes.
Glad you enjoyed it!
That was $1200+ well spent. Nice assortment ... Happy Holidays 🎅🌲
I like that Toronto, Hamilton, and Buffalo car. Haven't seen one of those before. Definitely worth the price for what you get.
Really cool! I can hear your excitement on the Canadian Pacific engines. They look like nice running engines. I like the police cars.
Love your videos and your enjoymentof the hobby. I think the mystery box idea is cool. Looking forward to your next video.
Just getting started into model railroading I think I’m going to get one of these to help start my collection, absolutely a big fan of the CN trains and stock so fingers crossed I get one like that.
Love the old CP paint scheme. Especially with the script road name
Thanks. I tried to change up the angles and locations for each locomotive so I wasn't just repeating the same stuff over and over.
