Montreal vs Quebec Nordiques has to be the most intense ever and where the two teams absolutely hated each other, even though it was relatively short lived compared to Montreal/Boston and Edmonton/Calgary rivalries. The Rangers and Islanders had a great rivalry too back in the 1980s, although not much hate. Toronto and Detroit also had a heated rivalry in the late 80s when Brophy was coaching Toronto and Jacques Demers for Detroit.

Rangers/Islanders isn't as big a rivalry as Rangers/Devils, even though the Islanders were in the league before the Devils franchise.

How fitting, considering there's a Bruins/Habs game tonight.

The Battle of Alberta is bigger than any of the featured rivalries . It's worth more than an 'honourable mention'!!

Montreal/Ottawa has become a bit of a rivalry, with the NHL Centennial Classic featuring both teams and the first ever NHL game in 1917 also featuring both teams.
Edmonton/Dallas was something of a rivalry during the late 1990s and early 2000s. One of the biggest moments was Curtis Joseph making a big save in a 1997 playoff game that led to Todd Marchant's OT winner, propelling the Oilers to the second round of the playoffs for the first time since 1992. Dallas would win their second round match-up in 1998 followed by three straight first round victories between 1999 and 2001, and again in 2003. In a regular season game during the 2006-2007 season, Dallas led the Oilers by 1 in Edmonton with less than half a minute to go. Patrik Stefan stripped the puck away from an Oilers defenceman, and instead of shooting the puck into the empty net, Stefan showed the league and the fans why he was a draft bust. He waited until he was in the crease, then let the puck roll off his stick, and gave it away to Petr Sykora in a desperate pass attempt instead of holding it along the boards. The Oilers would score to tie the game, only for Dallas to win in OT. But since that game, these two teams don't have much animosity towards each other.
Pittsburgh/Washington has only been a rivalry because of the Crosby/Ovechkin comparison, but that still doesn't make it any less enjoyable.

How did the Canadiens/Maple Leafs, the Battle of Alberta and the Red Wings/ Avalanche rivalries not make it into part 1? I get that the most of the rivalries covered exist from the early days of the NHL, but these 3 are definitely more 'heated' than most of those you cover.

Seriously. I live here in Alberta, and when you introduce yourself as a couple with an "inter-faith marriage" it means one of you is a Oilers fan and the other is a Flames fan. I've seen at least three fights start over the divide happen in my town of 6000

Born in 1960 Boston the Canadians were not liked here, but it's ironic because many bruins were Canadians back then, I played in Canadian cities in the 70's and we stayed with families that treated us very well, so even though it's a hockey thing, the players and families always respected each other, but in a bruins/Canadian game all bets were off.

Explain to me how Penguins-Flyers isn't on here. The sheer hatred there isn't reserved for hockey, it extends to everything and anything even remotely related to each other's cities.

What is also missing here is Detroit🇺🇲 and Toronto🇨🇦 that also dates back to the Original 6 era. Look unto Ontario Highway 401 you would see Michigan plates with Red Wings stickers driving to Toronto. Reverse is province of Ontario license plates on Interstate 75 around Detroit with Maple Leaf stickers.
Another one is Battle of QEW Toronto Maple Leafs🇨🇦 versus Buffalo Sabers🇺🇲

Toronto and Ottawa was barely a rivalry; it was more of a free pass for the Leafs. It was great watching Sundin show up and Alfredsson slowly disappear. The only time anyone ever noticed Alfredsson in the playoffs is when he short the puck at Scott Niedermayer.
