You're wrong about the Huberdeau trade. It was good deal for Flames, one year of Tkachuk for one year of Huberdeau, one year of Weager and a first rounder. Flames mistake was extending Huberdeau to that horrendous 10.5m, X 8 years contract which started at age of 30.
That extension is the only reason the trade happened. If he would've signed shorter Florida would have kept him. Easy win on Floridas part. They upgraded a winger and got rid of a defensive liability on the blueline.
Plus the insinuation that Huberdeau started the Flames rebuild is wrong. Gaudreau (RIP love ya bud) leaving is what triggered Tkachuk to ask for a trade. Everyone thought the Huberdeau trade was pretty excellent, considering the Flames were put in such a shitty position.
That's a lot of return for a guy who said he wouldn't sign with them. Yes, it can be argued that the trade might have looked better if they let Huberdeau walk.
@@kurtwpg Imagine better would have been with trading upcoming UFA Huberdeau for a second rounder and going into the summer with 10.5m in. cap to sign other UFAs.
As a Blue Jackets fan, I believe that the Atkinson for Voracek deal was worse than the Dzingel deal. Atkinson was one of the most dedicated Blue Jackets of all time and while the trade looked good when it happened, the fact that Voracek had a bad contract and was injured for 95% of the time he was in Columbus didn't work out. Also getting basically nothing when he was traded to Arizona/Utah was kinda expected but still a let down.
You could do a mini-series on all the bad trades my Leafs have made. Courtnall for Kordic, a 1st for Nick Foligno, a 1st for Tom Kurvers, it just goes on and on.
You're wrong....a mini series isn't long enough. Leafs have had pretty poor GMs this century....never mind the years of Gerry McNamara, the 2nd coming Punch Imlach and Floyd Smith
Ehhhh I don't thing the Allen trade will turn out bad, he's been fine as a backup (akin to his final STL days,) and it's good to let the goalies in the minors develop. last thing the Devils would need is to have another Blackwood/Schmid situation with Daws where they take a young goalie and burn him to a crisp with the workload. Really Fitz hasn't made a bad trade in the
I know this is last 5 years, but for the Penguins, they are responsible for the worst trade in NHL history and its not even close, Markus Naslund for Alex Stojanov. 1996
As much as I didn't like PLD trade I believe Quick trade hurts Kings fans more. Gavi is a good player but Copley at the time was decent enough to not get benched for Korpisalo because of the Peterson downfall. I also think Quick would of retired with the Kings when his contract ended
When talking about trades, it is never good thing to lists names who teams drafted with pick they got. It is bad or good drafting, nothing to do with the trade. Trade does not get better or worse based on who do you pick. Draft picks are like lottery tickets. You either win or lose.
You’re misrepresenting the Buchnevich trade, the Rangers traded him to clear cap space for what was expected to be a sure deal for Jack Eichel, but the Pegulas backed out at the last minute.
Honestly if Lundqvisk is the worst trade we've made in the last 5 years, I'd say we're doing alright. Sure a 1st was expensive but hey, at least we have a young right shot defenseman now!
You don’t trade what they gave up for a passable third pairing defenseman, let alone pay him $5 million a year for five years. If they could shoot Chuck Fletcher into the sun, I’d be there lighting the fuse.
Sutter is basically the one that screwed over the franchise, by being such a tyrannical coach (I was there for his early 2000s coaching, and he only got worse) that neither tkachuk nor gaudreau nor so many other players *wanted* to play for him. As pissed as I was for gaudreau not letting the team know he wasnt going to resign until the last minute, I do understand why he wanted out. Very unfortunate that tkachuk decided to follow suit, but at least we did get an opportunity to move him. I do agree that keeping Sutter around for that extra season probably harmed several players play (some of the rookies especially), but Huberdeau also didnt really have anyone to consistently play with. Im glad hes starting to show some improvement, but its unlikely we'll ever get enough performance to make up that salary, unless he leads us to the Cup
Not upset about the Montour trade at all as a Sabres fan. Why? You said it yourself in the video: “ *PENDING UFA* Brandon Montour.” There was no way he stayed in Buffalo unless they massively overpaid him, so getting a 3rd instead of getting nothing or an albatross contract isn’t bad given the situation.

Kastelic turned out to be the biggest part of the return 😂 but you wouldn't have known that because the video was out of date before you even uploaded it. Signed Sway, moved on. Korpi is still Korpi, but Kastelic has been freakin insane so far this season.
Also Ottawa is going to absolutely ruin Ullmark, sadly. If they can't defend in front of him, his stats are going to be so bad that his contract will look atrocious before the end.

Habs trading a, still, second pair dman (he was first pair before but a long while ago, he's grown older, but not awful), trading Petry for what amounts to nothing still : 2023-Aug-15 Traded from Montreal Canadiens to Detroit Red Wings for Gustav Lindstrom and conditional round 4 pick in the 2025 draft. We had Gustav last year, we waived him as he was kind extra extra depth and now the Habs got Gustav back again, after he was waived by Anaheim, where he was picked up last season. Okay, so this guy still hasn't played with the Habs this season as our defense is packed with young, 1st round talent plus two needed veterans as our PP quarterback for a season or two still, Matheson and Savard who's the elder in the team, he should have the C imo, not Suzuki, Suzuki would be fine with an A, he's an iron man and the only player not plagued by injuries since the rebuild which is almost completely done as of now and Gustav is traveling with the team, not being sent to the AHL, because we'd have to waive him again. I wonder what's going on here. But that's the confusion, plus a 4th pick next draft, likely a guy who will never play a game in the NHL, but sure. At the time Petry was seen as a second PP quarterback,a guy who would be the second most offensive dman in most teams out there, he's been better than expected with Pittsburgh and last season with Detroit, now I hear Detroit fans not liking him one bit this season so far, saying his legs are over. Gustav never had any legs, he's a defensive defenseman and we already have all that we need on that front with Savard and Xhekaj, the rest are either good 2 ways or likely to become good 2 ways, such Guhle. That trade isn't even resolved yet and it's brought nothing of tangible value 2 years 1/2 later.
