- I really enjoy spinning. I don't do it often enough to be very good at it, but I love the whole process, of all the things I do, it is the most relaxing. Since I redecorated the porch at the back of my house it is the perfect place for my Ashford Spinning Wheel and I to enjoy a few hours! Pink spinning on a cold day surrounded by colour. What's not to like!
I carried on spinning and made some green fibre to knit another project. That video will be over on my Patreon channel on Friday. Patrons enjoy extra content for the price of a posh coffee or a magazine. Videos, chats, crafts, behind the scenes, my garden, polls, Q&A's and so much more right back to the start of 2019! Kate. I must tell you that you are so soothing to my soul. I lost vision in my eye back in October. Since then I have been struggling with various problems. I found that listening to your videos on UA-cam helped me calm down. My sight was restored just recently but I felt like you were with me through it all. You made me feel like everything would be all right and it was. Thank you and sending you many blessings.
This style of video is definitely my favorite. A small project from start to finish! Love it!
I’m so thankful for your videos Kate. This one came on, and Ian, my three year old said (quite wistfully), “that’s my grandma. Mom, that’s my grandma!” My little ones don’t have grandmas, and so your videos bring such a gentle, lovely energy for them to listen to with me. Thank you.
You & your kids are very sweet! Making family as you can. ❤ wishing you all the best!
❤❤❤❤❤
When I see this kind of video where you are using a spinnng wheel, I always think to myself...who thought about how to design, make and of course use a machine like this...there were some very clever people around in the past...including reverend Spooner...because I do like a spit of binning...
And just think: People long ago developed all this stuff by candlelight!! 😎 lol
My week is always complete when I get to sit and listen to Kate talk about anything and everything.
Noooooo!!!!!! Please don't stop!!!!!
One of your most delightful "Chats" Ms. Kate!
How many of us feel this way?
You and Anna are lovely company.
Yours is the first actual spinning journey i have seen.
Cant thank you enough for this Peaceful few moments of your time.
“I make the yarn I want.” I could not agree more! 😊😊😊
Exactly! 😀
I second this motion! 😄💖
That’s the best reason to spin! Thanks for sharing this. So often on social media, all you see is very thin/fine yarn which looks like commercial yarn. That’s boring. Happy spinning!
Really loved seeing you spinning. You could call that lovely space you’ve created THE SPINNERY.
I was so happy to see Eileen and to hear that she continues to be her own goose.
There she is! Miss Eileen and the spinning wheel. This all started there, didn't it. This room has turned into such a nurturing place. I bet it is the very best napping room! Every time I watch an artisan work their craft, I appreciate the value in it. Enjoy your week, Kate and Anna. Till we meet again.
That is such a lovely little room to spin in. I find spinning so relaxing.
I love your easy approach to doing these. You are such a lovely lady. Really grounded and so inspirational. Thank you
Spinning is such a calming, meditative way to create something so imperfectly perfect. The rhythm of the wheel relaxing body, mind and soul, especially if your eyes can watch the world go by. Love the colours and the finished product.❤
So imperfectly perfect…beautiful.
Aww. Thank you, Kate and Anna, for a lovely Sunday afternoon. So peaceful. I was hand quilting while I was visiting on the Lime Green sofa. Good to have you back.
I was mending quietly at the end of the lime green sofa, enjoying everyones company 🤗
@@MaryamBehairy I was knitting on the LGS! Aren’t we an industrious lot!
I couldn’t be on the sofa ,I am recovering from Covid for the second year in a row…
@Inez Walsh awwe...sorry to hear. May you have complete recovery 🙏 ❤️
I’ve got an Ashford wheel just like yours. Bought it on my way through Ashburton many years ago, it’s waiting for me to move house so I can start spinning again.
I keep saying I don’t need another hobby, and then I see this beautiful, unique creation. It’s gorgeous!
I wish I could come (🇺🇸) and sit next to you and learn all your wisdom and craft... Anna is a lucky lady🤩💖💫💞💝 Thank you for sharing with us ✨
My husband has recently retired and is home. I mean sitting in the chair, watching tv, following me around home. I am biting my tongue a lot and giving him a "grace" period! And we"ve had such a LONG winter...but today it was lovely to visit the spinning room!! I had my earbuds in and I guess he saw me smile...when he asked what I was watching I said, "I'm spinning lovely pink yarn with Kate."!!!! Thank you for my pleasant getaway this afternoon!!
The world is so fraught with terrible news and I discovered Kate and with her chat as well as spinning wool series I am made whole once again. Kate when your spinning again, think about putting some of those beautiful hanks you card into the shop! I know I would love to knit with it.. Now when you told us Norma passed over the Rainbow Bridge, I sat and cried for the longest time and when I see her I still shed tears, I never saw a car with such adoration on her features as Norma did with you...Now that was Love.. I just popped in to say I am one of those who sit on the Lime Green Sofa and like I said when life gets chaotic I go to The Last Homely House to find Kate and listen to her wonderful chats. THANK YOU for being in my life, a most wonderful gift to have at any time.
Just had to wake a few people up on the green sofa, such a relaxing video.
Well, I loved this Kate (Thank you so much) I could not have enjoyed it more. Everything was beautiful and colourful and I could watch you spin and listen to you all day. I was fascinated watching you use the niddynoddy... I have seen them many times but never anyone using one so thank you for that. You and Anna have such a lovely calming way about you that I now feel wonderful.. (your podcasts should be on prescription) 🤭❤❤❤ More spinning please if you get the chance I would love to learn.
Kate, oh, my....another lovely chat "with you". (If only😊) It's a rainy & chilly day ( Jan 9, 2024) here in SW Virginia and I have the privilege of spending time with you and listening to the lovely sound of the spinning wheel. Thank you!
Poor Mr. Spooner. I think he expelled that student who tasted two whole worms, and sent him away by the town drain. Or so the story goes… I always enjoy your chats. Lovely yarn!
Hi Kate. I only found your channel just a few days ago and since then I have binged/gorged on no less than thirty six of your videos. This was the first one I watched, then I searched for and found your very first one. You have inspired me to dust off my spinning wheel and since finding your channel I have started to spin again while enjoying your company. Not only that, you have also inspired me to try my hand at quilting. Like you I never throw anything away and I have quite a few of my husband's old shirts that I might use to practise with. I really enjoyed your video where you talked of the Gee's Bend Quilters. The social history associated with textile crafts is a big part of the attraction they hold for me. I'd never heard of these women though I have read about the Underground Railroad Movement. Today we visited Tredegar House a National Trust property very local to us. One of the ways in which the volunteers raise money is by selling donated books very cheaply. I couldn't believe my luck when I found a copy of a book called 'The Quilts of Gee's Bend' by Susan Goldman Rubin for just one pound. I think I "whooped" when I pulled it from the shelf. Okay, I've babbled on enough. I just wanted to say what an absolute joy your channel is to watch. You are so generous with your knowledge and I have found myself 'dropping down a few gears' while watching. Thank you so much! Hope there's enough room on the lime green sofa for me.😉
How absolutely marvellous! Thank you for this and Welcome to The Lime Green Sofa! I’m really pleased you’re here! Xxx Take care, Kate xxx
Lovely, peaceful and so tender, those are the words I describe Kate. Kind of the neighbor everyone wants to have. ❤
Oh my word! This reminds me so much of my grandmother! She didn't spin her own wool, but I have such fond memories of holding the skeins for her while she wound the balls. Your yarn and scarf are so beautiful! Thank you, Kate, for sharing your process and for jostling up such good memories for me🥰
This was the video I needed, a down home with Kate and her elements. The colors of your yarn, your porch space and you Miss Kate. So good to see you again. Time for me to get out of my head and into my hands. Thanks 😊
Dear Ms. Kate, Thank you for all of your lovely videos! I enjoyed seeing your wonderful collection of books. My artist husband had to look at them, too. He has the book, "The Artist's Way At Work" and he is currently doing its exercises. He frequently says, "when the student is ready, the master arrives". You have inspired and taught me so much about quilting, cooking and honeybees. Knitting will be next. Have a happy spring! Sue Burden
thank you for the chance to hang out w you, such a soothing time! 💞
The colour is absolutely amazing! What a lovely little scarf - just the perfect size too! I love how we get to see the entire project from start to finish, knowing there are days, sometimes weeks or even months in between! That colour makes me happy! xxxx
Delightful surprise to see a new video. A great way to end my day! Pink is the best. 💖
Its so lovely to see Stubborn Eileen! Busy hands make for a happy heart. And a lovely wooden bobbin or two of bright pink wool lifts spirits.
My favorite Maker does it again!! Love watching you spin, reminds me of my wheel so many years ago. 😊
Hello Kate, I love watching you spinning and making beautiful things. Thankyou for your hard work and time sharing xxx
Kate, it was very pleasant to watch you with yarn. The process is amazing, the yarn is beautiful, and the scarf looks very warm and cozy. You have so much knowledge stored in your brain. Lady you amaze me every time I watch you. I would have loved to learn so much from you. I can watch and dream. God bless you and your beautiful family.❤️🧶😊
I am 63, I have seen and heard about spinning wheels my whole life, but have never seen one used.
What a joy to see for the very first time. Thank you 🌞
Your scarf is beautiful. Loved watching you spin the yarn!!! Thanks for showing Eileen, such a lovely goose.
Thank you for sharing your spinning, your quilting, and your homelife. I am also a spinner/weaver/knitter/etc., but (right now) have little time to do those things, and you bring so much joy to my day by just listening to your stories and sharing a cup of tea.
Lavender is a natural deterrent to moths, with the added lovely scent for us.
Another wonderful visit thank you so much Kate. I loved hearing about the escapades of your cheeky Goose, and seeing the different stages as your scarf came into being - it's fab and very "Kate"! Always lovely to see Anna too, your crafty conspirator xxx
I have absolutely zero interest in spinning yarn... and yet I was totally mesmerized throughout the video with this peaceful process and what goes into handmade yarn. It's always a pleasure to watch your videos no matter the topic. They give me a sense of rightness in the world.
You have brightened these long dark winter days in Northern New York USA. I only wish I had found you sooner. Thank you for all you share. I truly wish we were neighbors lol. You have prompted me to work on a half done quilt that has been tucked away sadly for many years. I just love you all.
I love the color of the yarn that is beautiful colors I like the pink sand the reddish the different colors are beautiful and I like what you said your spindle that is a great place to put it so thanks for sharing lots of love and hugs to you and your family and everyone's and happy knitting sewing crafting whichever stay safe have fun enjoy life cuz life is too short not to have lots of fun specific things that you do and I like all the books you got cool✌️💜💜♥️♥️🙏🙏🤠🤠
Ah, Kate! I so enjoyed watching you card, spin and seeing your lovely daughter-in-law, Anna, wind your yarn for you! I have been spinning 33 years and I never tire of it. My Ashford Traditional is probably the same vintage as yours. Wishing you Peace,
Thank you, Kate. I make lumpy and misshapen items but I make them with love. The process is ALL to me, creativity heals my soul.
Creativity means a lot to me too. I tell my family that it ‘calms my mind’ . I’m lucky enough to be able to do something creative every day, it’s not much but my mind needs it and I love it. I crochet and knit baby things…… small and easy to focus on. I give them all away to Baby Basics or similar outlets. My daughter is a health visitor and she sometimes finds homes for my creations. I had a stroke 4 yrs ago and it’s left me with a few problems but on the whole I’m lucky and ‘count my blessings’ every day. Yes, I make my items with love that salves my soul😍.
@@christinenewell2679 Thanks Christine, lovely to hear from you. Yes I knit most days but recently started a Creative Writing class which I am loving. I hadn't heard of Baby Basics so I Googled it, sounds great, thanks for the tip-off. Jane x
OHHHHHHH Kate, thanks so much for this lovely visit. It's just what I needed to begin my week here on a Sunday evening after having a week of dips [valleys] and peaks. It's helped smooth out the valleys. I so enjoy these visits. I just might play this one over again later tomorrow. I always look forward to our visits............such a calming and peaceful feeling, like visiting with a dear friend.......and that's what you've become. Blessings to you Kate.
I am 11 mths late many apologies. I love quilts but my main love is spinning. Thank you so much Kate, you are such wonderful company😊
Oh my gosh! You brought back childhood memories. When I was a little girl. Mama Mini and Papa Charlie had an old barn. We were not suppose to play in the barn. But us kids did anyway. We went up to the hey loft and arranged the hey bales into rooms for our spaceship. The Spinning wheel you have that you are working on. We found an old one out in the barn somewhere. We took it up to the hey loft to use as our steering wheel for our spaceship. Love it. Thanks for bringing back memories of my childhood.
I don’t spin or knit but, I always watch & visit the spinners at our local fair. Love watching and listening to you visit with me! 😅
So pretty is your scarf, the colors suit you well. I too love spinning. Textiles. I guess I could say I am a Jack of all trades and master of none. Yes, it is all so relaxing. I too live out in the country and enjoy it all. Thank you for such a nice video. Never used a Niddy Noddy but now thanks to you I know how.
The sound of the spinning wheel reminds me of my mum, who would spend long winter evenings spinning wool to knit us all thick woolly sweaters
Lovely to see your spinning, I tried a few years ago, but kept being told I wasn't doing it correctly so gave up. I now realise I was being creative x
Kate, my grandfather was a blacksmith, and he made beautiful spinning wheels. He had 5 daughters, who all had children. He starting making a spinning wheel for each girl, starting with the oldest and working his way down. He passed away before he got through the list, and being the youngest granddaughter I didn’t receive a wheel. Thankfully, a wonderful cousin gave me his mothers spinning wheel! I’m excited to see you spinning -and I just might oil mine up and take it for a spin!! Thanks❤️
What a truly lovely story! I still treasure the things that my Mum and Dad made for me. Spending time watching my Dad make things of wood gave me a lifelong passion for the material. Unlike him, I was blessed to have access to a lovely lathe, and loose myself in wood-turning.
Glad to see you again. My hubby just the other day before you posted asked where’s Kate. When he came walking into the living room he said “That’s Kate”. Good to see and hear Eileen is doing well, and precious Sadie on the bed all curled up? Happy to see Anna and look forward to see her progress on her quilt some time soon. Take care Kate, your lovely family and everyone on the line green sofa.
I love you saying " get out of your head and into your hands, very true
OOOOOoooooo mend the green scarf with the pink yarn! Your wheel purrrs like cats ))) Boiled icicles ARE hard to ride. hahaha Cyclamen outside???? Wonderful! Spinning in the library. )) Whoever made the first niddy noddy would be so pleased to see it happily beng used centuries later. Just make a couple of half hitches with the ends of the yarn. no extra cord required. Sweet scarf )))))
As always, LOVE you Kate and your slow pace of life and charming personality, Thankyou for another brief respite from life XX
“Get out of your head and into your hands.” Thank you, Kate. 💗
The scene of you spinning with your teapot etc and a basket of that beautiful wool , would make a lovely puzzle or book cover.
LOVE EVERYTHING! Really miss your longer video, like you did in the past. Glad this one was longer.
Thanks Kate I like you don’t spin often enough. I am spinning Merino at the moment was having a bit of a brain fog. Thanks to your latest video I now can remember the process. You are a delight to watch. Between you and Arne & Carlos I never feel lonely I call you & the Boys my Utube best friends ❤️🤗
Thank you for being so kind to make this video. It makes me happy. 😊
I am learning so much from the ads playing this morning although I must admit that I am a bit tired of seeing the neighbours tourism ad I’ve been there multiple times over the years I thank you for your generosity donating ad revenue is a great thing to do.. I ve noticed that my sisters cats were not choosy beggars either. Put the scarf in front of the window to check how much the moths have been eating . I agree about the pink . I will keep on looking …oh the goose thanks for the glimpse. I do spoonerisms I like going out too watch the lanes plan . I don’t think I will forget saying that one. I was trying to get the word air port out and you know that place i mean the place the lanes plan. In my world there was one time I said you know that machine I put the dirty clothes in and they come out clean my son immediately knew what machine I meant I told him it was broken he fixed it. No spoonerisms involved in that conversation though. I certainly would be worried if it was something new. Search for words and not finding them at the tip of my tongue. I haven’t heard any one use the word hank in donkey years. Do you like exercising your arm . One inquiring mind is going to check is a skein of yarn the same as a hank. I am hankering to know. . I made a scarf that hade a pre-made moth hole well more like a big button hole to slip the end of the scarf through no need to tie half a knot LOL. Well the last politician has said his piece so off I go too . Thank you I have enjoyed our time together even though you didn’t offer any home cooking. 😮🎉❤🎉😊
If there’s yarn left over you could needle felt some spots onto your green moth eaten scarf and give it a new lease of life.
Would you like to take us through some of your favourite books sometime? ❤
Which reminded me that I had wondered could you wet felt the Holey green scarf before visible mending?
Ohh, or crochet some little flowers and sew them down!
Happy International Women’s Day. Dee from Huntsville Alabama.
i love your spinning videos. The sound of the wheel is so comforting.
Ah Kate, thank you for another lovely video. The rhythm of the spinning wheel is so soothing, it reminds me of my mother using her treadle sewing machine sometimes when she wasn't in the mood for the electric one.
I love spinning my dogs fur. She is a beautiful Great Pyrenees and her fur is similar to pygora. Spinning is so soothing.🥰. When I cleaned out my book shelves, I donated the books to my local library. They were so happy to see the crafting books.
I enjoy watching you so much! Whether you’re piecing a quilt or quilting one, or spinning your yarn! It’s all so relaxing! It motivates me to get some of my projects done! I may not complete them but I can get the tops done like your mum did and put them in a suitcase for someone else!
I haven't watched you for a while. Tonight you've given me the help I needed so very badly.
"Get out of my head and into my hands".
Thank you.
Niddy noddy, niddy noddy, two heads and one body!
Glad to hear Eileen is still sassy. I found out how my little dog was getting out of the fence by throwing some treats on the side he was NOT supposed to be on. Right in front of me, he slid through to get those biscuits!. Maybe if you put some corns for Eileen she would show you her secret?
I love watching your videos. Such a calm relaxing spirit you have. Love the pink spinning area; it's perfect. Learned a bit about spinning there; I've never seen that done up close. I'm sure everyone who sees your lovely cozy home wants to come visit and stay a while. No worries... I'm a continent away 😊I'll just keep watching from here. jw
Pink is definitely your color Kate. It looks beautiful on you. Such a delight to see dear Eileen. Thank you!❤️
Such a beautiful scarf Thanks for sharing with us. God bless.
You make the yarn you want and that is enough. Not everybody has to be an expert spinner to spin yarns.
The pink will look lovely with the silver in your hair and give a glow to your complexion when you wear it.
I am a spinner and cannot begin to explain how it warms my heart to hear you say you're not technical and you make the yarn you want. ❤ we have been spinning fiber probably longer than we've been writing, so that leaves me to question, Who wrote these "rules" everyone professes you need to master to be a "master spinner" or knitter for that matter?
Thank you so much Kate for cheering up a cold, rainy afternoon in the Midlands! Seeing you spin reminded me that I have a spinning wheel in the attic (!), and a quantity of alpaca fleece that won’t spin itself! The pink yarn and scarf are gorgeous - such a warm joyful colour! Just off to make some of your carrot, apple and cashew nut soup for this evening - it’s a real favourite with my friends too. So good to see Eileen, and to end the video with a sleeping puss - they have the best ideas about how and where to spend a chilly day! Sending much love to you all! X
Eileen stories, the rhythm of spinning, an ideal LHH day.
You are a treasure Kate! For the first time, I just finished 320 English paper piecing 1” hexagons inspired by you quilt for Agnes while taking care of my sister-in-law’s 93 yr Mom , who machine and hand quilts, for 2 weeks and here you are doing another of my wishes “spinning” ! Do you weave as well, my next wish to try? I’m so happy I’ve found you on YT 🌹 Thank you and Anna is such a lovely young woman 😍
You’ve joined a lovely group of folk! Welcome! X
I love watching you spin & listening to your stories! I enjoy making my own yarn, too! My spinning wheel near the television screen is calling my name! You've inspired me to spin....and to drink more tea! 🤗
Spinning may be relaxing for you Kate, but watching you spin has the same effect on me. Thank you for your lovely video.
You bring me happiness
I love the lumpy texture of the yarn ☺️ the scarf turned out beautiful, Kate! The chat about Eileen made me laugh “it’s a daily occurrence..” oh goodness 😂 gotta love her!
What is not to like.... pink or green! both my favorite colours, yep.... go girl
That colour pink makes my heart sing. I love it. I can see little croquet pink flowers on your original scarf to cover the holes. Spread that pink colour everywhere you can.. I'm planning to make postage stamp curtains in pink for my laundry which were inspired by you of course. I am trying to find ways to dwindle down my fabric stash because I don't make quilts anymore and I have the purrfect way to use my cat fabric. I am making simple cat bedding and donating them to cat rescues to sell for funding. I will have to add a few pink pieces to my curtains if they have a small cat pattern on them though. Thankfully my house full of rescue cats aren't curtain climbers. Thank you for the spinning lesson.
You are such an inspiration in a world full of turmoil. You remind me to be purposeful and to use my skills daily. I can always escape and find peace and calmness in your videos.
I have never watched from the carding/spinning process...thank you for showing us this!!! I love to knit but just let others do the real work! Love the pink!!!!
You are lovely 🥰! Listening to you makes me so calm and happy and thankful! Thank you so much! Many greetings from the Black Forest in Germany 🌲🌲!
Thank you for a relaxing Sunday morning here in Washington State, USA. I do so enjoy our time together.
I’m also Washington State, Moses Lake, watching lovely Kate, and looking out at snow covered yard again! Anxious for spring!
I’m jealous of the life you live … so simple and where you live, so special ❤
Funny, I call my room with my sewing machine also “my happy place” ❤
I am a knitter but have never considered spinning and creating my own wool! I loved watching you go through that process. I don't have the means to do that but thoroughly enjoyed seeing you do it. Thanks for sharing the process!
Lovely Kate...thank you....🌸🌸🌸
Ahhh another beautiful watch on Sunday evening, one not to be missed! 🍁👍👍🦋🌈
This video was so lovely - quintessential Kate. And I do agree about how when things are sitting for a while one stops seeing them. It's a strange phenomenon! Great to see you looking so well too. 💜
I love that the beginning of the video reminded me of Troll dolls from back in the 80s! They always had bright colored hair. ❤🧡💛💚💙💜🧝🧝♂🧝♀
Thank you for sharing this process. I enjoy embroidering and I like to watch and listen to your videos while I embroider. I'm glad that there is room on your lime green sofa for me. God bless you and all that work on your channel.
Nice to watch the process of you spinning your yarn. Amazingly we get to see the finished product and seeing it being used. Thanks for sharing with us. 👍❤️😊
Your spinning room is the BEST
I know what you mean by relaxing and taking time to slow down. When I feel like it's too much I have to take a walk. I so enjoy your channel
So very nice in every way! 🪄

Love these words of wisdom, "Get out of your head and into your hands." 😊
