Hi, I'm a 14-year-old spey fanatic in Northern California. I've noticed while fishing the American river that the smaller intruders and wet flies I fish the more steelhead I catch. Is this something specific to central valley steelhead? I suppose that the amount of time fish spend in the river affects what they'll eat. When I first started fishing with spey gear I would throw a big fly like a skinny hoh or some big orange obnoxious intruder but I wasn't getting many grabs. Now i'm throwing stuff like Mini Ho Bo Speys or an Anderson's euphoria and now I'm getting a ton of steelhead. Do you think they would hit trout spey stuff like this?

Sounds like you've got it figured out at 14. Just keep fishing new stuff and see how it goes. Got your whole life ahead of you
