Thanks. You answered a lot of my question I couldn't find in other videos. Im starting my own kayak, bushcraft, camping channel and have shot a lot of footage. I hate it all! I am having to learn about shooting angles that work for me and ones that don't. I cant afford to buy stuff that doesn't work. I don't believe in, "reinventing the wheel" so, I learn a lot from you sharing. Thanks again.
Alabama Woodsman thanks for reaching out. I hear you! Actually, I'm finishing a new video on tips for using action cameras, might be helpful for you. Keep an eye out, I should be done with it in a couple of days. Cheers!
Thanks for posting this. I don't have a Kayak yet but I'm planning on buying one soon. I wanna put my GoPro on my Kayak but wasn't sure how. Again, thanks! I also subbed to you.
It depends on the finish of your kayak. If it's a nice sleek finish they will stay on just fine (fiberglass, smooth finish plastic, etc). If the surface is porous then it will have a harder time staying on.
If you get an adhesive mount you want to peel the plastic and heat up the sticky part until it starts bubbling then press it firmly against the surface you want to put it on
Hey, nice overview. Thanks. I am planning on using mine in rough water/surf, and going with a direct adhesive mount. Have you done this, and which type of secondary fail-safe leash, if any, are you using?
Romany1111 adhesive mounts work well, but keep the camera/stand on the light side (not many accessories or extensions). For leash, I use bungees and/or paracord. One for the stand (I use the suction one) and one directly to the camera. Cheers!
i have a plastic kayak and want to use the suction cup, knowing that the plastic is not the smoothest of surfaces and may inhibit the suction. do you recon / or are aware of sticking a thick, glossy , plastic sticker big enough for the suction mount would help? Thanks!
capulazza some plastic boats are smooth enough for suction mounts. I used to have a wilderness systems boat and that worked just fine. The problem with a sticker is that you'd depend on how well the sticker would adhere to your kayak. If that's on super tight, you should be ok.
mark scott yep, usually use a GoPro remote. Otherwise for some scenarios I might just turn it on, get in the kayak, and let it run (let's say when I'm doing a rolling session)
Good afternoon Sir, I have a PH Delphine and a Valley Nordkapp, both plastic and rough. Do you think a suctioned mount will work? Thanks for your time in advance.
I used to have a wilderness systems zephyr, and it was plastic as well, I think similar to the two you mentioned. It worked for me. However, my friend has a scirocco to which the suction just won't catch on.
Hi Luke, thanks for the info. I opted for an Olympus Tough - more for stills but also for short videos - and have been trying to figure out a mounting system. How do these attache to the camera? The Olympus has a standard threaded camera mount -- will these work, or is there an adapter available? Thanks - hope to see you at the pool or on the water this winter. -Jonathan
JLT1003 excellent! Absolutely, if you look at the description above, you'll see the ram suction cup mount, and then below it a 1inch ball with plate adapter - that will have a 1/4 thread screw with a 1inch ball that can fit into the mount. Let me know if you have questions, and see you in the pool sessions!
Perfect! I tried a cheap knock-off that I picked up at West Marine (BoomSUP by Scosche), but the suction cup is really wussy. That will be going back in exchange for the RAM system.
where do you suggest mounting the Go Pro? I am trying to figure out a place on the foredeck that I can reach, but I am concerned about damage when I assist in rescues and drag kayaks onto my deck.
That's a tough one. For me I opted to go for mounting it forward on the bow, and using a remote. That way it's not in the way for rescues. However, I don't think there's a right or wrong. Play with a couple of spots and see what works for you.
Hi...great video (have shared) wondering if you have used the smaller Ram suction mount in surf and how did it peform punching out through waves...I just picked one up and it seems really good mind you I ALWAYS leash my camera...thanks in advance!
Thanks! I have used it in small surf, I haven't tried it in the surf I've seen in your videos. However, it's been hit time and time again by paddles or other people, so I'm guessing the surf will be just fine. Make sure to wet the rubber right before putting it on, it'll help stay on. Also, look for a nice flat area, it'll stay on better than some of the more curved spots. I've used mine for more than 2 years and it has never come off yet... Let me know how it goes!
I am. It's made by RAM. If you look at the information I posted below the video, you'll see a link to two versions of the suction mount on Amazon. Cheers
Troy Lee I have not. Waterproof ones are coming out now, my friend Tomasz has been using a small waterproof one on his helmet for stabilized video. I have not yet used one.
Depends on the situation. Usually yes. However, they use quite a bit of battery when connected to the remote. So sometimes I just let them run manually until I get out next or until the battery runs out.

So grateful! Thanks. Im a scriber and have you alerted.... Im waiting.
thanks for listing the links for the product in the description, super helpful.
No problem, glad that worked!
Is that a Jetfire I see on the back shelf? Nice!!!
Great info! I see you have a plastic housing on your Gopro! If the camera is waterproof, why do you need that?
This is excellent. Thank you for posting
Can you shows us that tether a little more. I am trying to see how you get the tether nice and tight on the ram mount. Thanks!
Great video! Subscribed!
Hey! Going to Maine this fall? Any updates on mounts now or still happy with this setup?
Thanks for posting this. I don't have a Kayak yet but I'm planning on buying one soon. I wanna put my GoPro on my Kayak but wasn't sure how. Again, thanks! I also subbed to you.
Glad it helped. Reach out if you have any questions. Cheers!
those adhesive mount wont stick to kayaks. ive tried several times.

They work fine for my kayak
Very nice, however dfor some reason the links will not stay long enough for me to copy.. could i trouble ya for them please!!
Thks so much Don
very helpful summary, thanks.
Really like the underwater shot at about 15-16 seconds
Thanks!
if you put adhesive mount on the kayak will it make it unstick, since water will get on it or,what.
The GoPro sticky mounts work very well at staying on. Just always make sure to tether it down just in case it ever comes off.

Thanks. Will go light. And redundant leashes/attachments.
Thank you very good advice

well said! thanks for your time and keep it up
capulazza 👍
How are you turning on , off different modes on your GoPro when it’s attached to the back of your kayak? Remote? The app on your phone?
mark scott yep, usually use a GoPro remote. Otherwise for some scenarios I might just turn it on, get in the kayak, and let it run (let's say when I'm doing a rolling session)

are you using a different suction cup? i have the gopro one that i use for my hero 4 silver but it looks different to yours
I am. It's made by RAM. If you look at the information I posted below the video, you'll see a link to two versions of the suction mount on Amazon.

My suction cup wont attach to kayak
Seria muy útil si habilitaras la posibilidad de activar los subtítulos, gracias
Thank you brother
No problem. Hope it helped.
How about gimbal? Have you ever use a gimbal on kayak?
Troy Lee I have not. Waterproof ones are coming out now, my friend Tomasz has been using a small waterproof one on his helmet for stabilized video. I have not yet used one.

Wow! Thanks for subscribing!
Do you use the remote to turn your GoPro's on when you want or do you turn them on manually? thanks
