- We're running out of grass so time to sell more lambs.... we have 350 left and in this video we take 81 to market.
We sell them as store lambs and these are the lightest lambs we've ever sold.
Store lambs are lambs that aren't quite finished yet.... so they will go to other farmers who will feed them up.

ABOUT ME
I’m 33 years old and I’m a sheep farmer from Ayrshire in South West Scotland, which is why I have such a strong accent! I was born and raised on a sheep farm watching my dad who was the shepherd.
At 18 I went away from farming to work in the city s a Police Officer and at 23 (2013) I decided I wanted to do something for some extra money so I went on a sheep shearing course. The hardest thing I’ll ever do was learning to shear sheep. [shudders thinking about it]
I shore whilst on my holidays from work for 2 years and then in 2015 my dad died so I decided to get my own sheep so I could continue working with sheep as it was something I loved doing. From there it escalated quickly from my first 4 sheep in my mum’s garden to now running around 1200 breeding ewes.
A few years ago I bought myself a sheep pregnancy scanner and have been building up my run since then.
I watched a few farm vlogs on UA-cam and decided I could have a go and now here we are!
Since starting The Sheep Game I have met Lizzy and had two incredible boys Jock and Angus. You will see them all on this channel!

I tried to keep count of the sheep but I fell asleep after 15. I love seeing Jock working with the sheep and remembering to close the gate of course.

Morning 12.45am Saturday Jan.20/24. Just snowing a bit. Last week coldest day was -57 Celsius wind chill I was like stabbing knives. Next week we’ll see one day at +10. Good old Southern Alberta. Stay warm, stay dry!

I know that it seems a little wrong to sell so early, but people love their spring lamb (with good reason) and it has to come from somewhere.

For people who get lambs butchered for their customers, often the butcher will pick them up, just like your auction mart. It's worth asking, considering the price of fuel, even if they charge a nominal fee. Jock is going to be a youtuber in no time, he already has a fan base!

What's harder? Herding wee jock or herding the sheep? Such a joy to see him running about.
Cammy your comment saying the wet was biblical is spot on. I follow a chap in Australia who says there is a big wet period from now to 2029 which will include biblical flooding, all linked to the planetary cycles. Has happened before and happening again, just not been in our wee life times.
If I remember correctly it’s an El Niño year/period. I think this disrupts weather and tides across the globe.

How can a preschooler know to make sure to always close the gate yet fully grown adults seem oblivious?!?! I don’t live in the countryside so they can’t use the excuse of oh I didn’t know I’ve never been here before when I’ve always known it!!

Last year being my first year in East Ayrshire, all my neighbours were saying just how bad it has been, and not remembering a year like it. Maybe the amount of rain up till November was the same, it was just in heavier period.
I had to sell Icelandic ram lambs in Ayr early December 37kg went for around £70. 2 x £28kg lambs sold for just £2. I wont be taking anything light again. better taking them myself to the butchers. Didn't even cover the cost of heptavac & transport. There wasn't a store sale yet but had to shift them. Was so pissed off. lesson learned.
Yeah mate it's just the type of lambs and the numbers. None of the store lamb buyers want two horned lambs on their own. Better to feed and sell as boxed lamb yourself

Hope to get a creep feeder this year to help fatten the wethers/ram lambs not being kept for pedigree breeding.
Butcher was happy with our ram we had done, and keen to see lambs next year, so we shall see!

Glad the auction went well for you guys! Great to see Jock so focused on the auction! I will admit seeing him charging into roads (even parking lots) terrifies me though, even with you standing close by. Kids can get away from us all too easily and all it takes is one second of distraction; if they aren't taught young to stop and look both ways at every road, it could end in tragedy. I only say this out of genuine concern and love for all of you.

For what is worth , here in the southern hemisphere, and I mean southern , absolutely huge Ice shelfs breaking away from our southern neighbour Antarctica, the weather is Xtreme in all states of Australia 🦘🦘, sitting here in Queensland , with a massive cyclone building in the coral sea , last two moons have been horrendous weather for us. Rain Humidity and massive storms , nothing to get four inches of rain in 30 mins , then 100 to 110 degrees after. Just saying mate roll with it.

That youngster should never have been allowed into that penning area far less be seen to running around in the passages on a live sale day. United Auctions Board members need to review the risk assessment protocols for that area.
Surely the responsibility should lie with the parent? (Me). Having been brought up on a farm myself and having been around sheep my entire life I am more than happy to give my son the same upbringing and to take full responsibility for his safety.
It saddens me to see people connected to farming with this mentality.
@@TheSheepGameYou are absolutely correct in your assertion; 'responsibility SHOULD lie with the parent', it only requires to be employed, as unfortunately it was not on this occasion and that 'saddens' me. Life can be a hard learning curve for those who make it thus!!
When a dry continent like Australia has monumental floods several years in a row, there is something fundamentally wrong with the whole weather thing. Personally I don't believe that it is 100% CO2 related, because the actual percentage of CO2 is extremely small but something is amiss.
Jock is like my little guys….they’d be making friends with everybody!
But my oldest sought out elderly people- he called them all grandmas and just loved them.
When he was like 1, when we’d go out to eat…I only fed him organic so We’d take his food in with us…which no matter what, consisted of at least avocado. And then we’d have to find a nice elderly couple to sit by so he could have his dinner and a live show.
Those are the best ages- they just go by so quickly.😢
Actually…I had a blast with mine til they were older teens and became drags. Then It was only ME who still wanted to go out and play, to amusement parks and stuff.🤷🏻♀️😞
