    I think the reason the young Elvis performances really hit different with me is because this was a peek at how he was on the road and before he got 'watered' down by critics, the Colonel and Hollywood. And the fact that his kind of performance was so new, unhinged and unlike anything people had ever seen back the. Just raw talent and charisma!

      I took a day to think about this. I'm glad I did. My answer is, I agree. I fully believe that Elvis had enough talent to pull it off without Colonel Parker. Let's face it, his star was rising in 1955. He had two top 10 hits on the Country charts. Years ago, I read that Elvis was the #1 most promising artist in that year. Bob Neal's manager's contract expired on March 15, 1956 and Parker became Elvis' manager. Based upon things we do know, I think we can reasonably speculate that Parker wanted Elvis to work Las Vegas ASAP. I do wonder what would have happened if Elvis had success there at that time. Elvis got into Las Vegas in late April. From what I have seen, it looks as if Parker was trying to set up Elvis with the older generation -- based on the recent Elvis movie (2022). "You're going to see the real Elvis Presley tonight (July 4, 1956 performance)". Elvis said that his singing to the basset hound (July 1)was the most ridiculous performance of his entire career -- so he certainly wasn't happy with this. Colonel Parker didn't try to support any changes to Elvis after that (no more tuxedos). I just had a look at Elvis '56 and it revealed that Elvis was advised by Parker to turn down the role offered to him in The Rainmaker. I guess that Elvis would have been a lesser star in Hollywood without Parker, but I believe Elvis' main talents were his singing and performing not acting anyway. What about Elvis not performing outside of North America? Who knows what would have happened over there? Maybe it's just as well. Elvis and his band was chased off the stage in Vancouver, B.C. on August 31, 1957, so it might have been worse over there -- I don't know. Did Elvis really have to go into the army? I don't know. I met someone who met Elvis as he served with him. The man was very impressed with Elvis. He said he liked Elvis' music after Elvis got out of the army, but not before. Interesting ... Was going into the army a move to help Elvis integrate into the older generation? I don't know, but it looks like it. 😮. All things considered, if we really look at the details, we can see that Elvis could adapt into almost any music style. I think that no matter who his manager was, Elvis' career would have stumbled in the mid-to-late 1960s. As I said, I don't think having Elvis do all the movies was the best thing. Regardless of who Elvis' manager was, he would have been more successful than any other performer; his career would have been handled differently, that's all. And, no matter who his manager was, Elvis wouldn't have been able to have more success than the Beatles in the 1960s, just as no one had more success in the 1950s than Elvis. It was each their time. There's lots of stuff I don't understand, covered by my essay here: why Las Vegas so early? (Hmmm ... gambling man Parker?), dealing with the older generation (tuxedo man), why the army, really? (It did influence some to accept and like him), changes in style (i.e., It's Now or Never, Surrender -- but, ultimately, this showcases his ability to adapt to the times {my gosh, the music was drastically different in the 1950s compared to the 1960s [when I listened to the documentary, The history of Rock and Roll, it was said in covering the year 1960 that "rock and roll hit __rock bottom], with some resurgence in 1961 and 1962 [my sister said that the music of 1962 was similar to the 1950s]}, and did Elvis have to make so many movies? I don't think so; if I were Elvis' manager, if I seriously wanted to have him expand his talent in this field, I would have been happy for him to accept supporting roles and have his records stand by themselves. As I close my essay, I will say that Elvis would have success no matter what. I know I would have let him be himself (what's with the tuxedos?), I would have considered more what to do about the army, did he really need to record more ballads?, I would have shut down the movie soundtracks, and I would have been more careful about drug use. What else can I say? Hindsight is 20-20. Thanks for giving me an opportunity for me to speak my words ❤😊

    Anyone who says the Colonel "made Elvis" should have their tongue ripped out by the roots. If that were true, than why didn't the Colonel ever make another one? Elvis is the G.O.A.T!

    • @koleskab
      @koleskab 3 місяці тому

      First of all Elvis was mostly unknown to most of the US when the Colonel took over. He managed to get Elvis on a big record label and get him on TV and later star in movies. Until then Elvis was just touring and doing smaller gigs. He was not even top billing at that moment, so he was not even a big star in any way before the Colonel saw something special here. Now he had Elvis, who else could he have picked when he already had the number one star under his belt. He was good for Elvis in the start, but not so much in the end. Elvis should have changed manager around 1968 when his comeback show became a success. Sadly he didn't dare to. So the Colonel did make Elvis in some ways. So I can ask you, if Elvis was so great already in 1954-55, why wasn't he a national star and top billing then? How come he got national fame after he teamed up with the Colonel? - so he must have done something right.

Not even Sam Phillips had the power to make Elvis to a big star, so why did that also fail if Elvis would have become a star no matter what. Just explain that to me just one more time why that didn't happend.

    When Elvis Presley signed with the RCA Label on November 20,1955, they slowly deluded his sound! This is the real Elvis Presley with backing from The Blue Moon Boys.
    How I wish he had stayed with Sun Records and had, like Jerry Lee Lewis, become a country/gospel singer and not become a motion picture film star!
    All I truly listen to are the 5 Sun Singles!
    No one could top Elvis Presley And The Blue Moon Boys!
    I wish they had gone on to record more Singles and some albums and solidified their position as the best Rockabilly group ever!
    It would have been fantastic to record the group "live" in a Memphis, Tennessee club between 1954~1956!
    The RCA studio recordings of Tutti Frutti and Blue Suede Shoes pale in comparison to the "live" performances on the Dorsey Brothers "Stage Show" appearances!
