I just moved from LA to NY! lol i lived in LA for 15 years so it was def a big change. I will say though, I’m shocked you don’t drive! That’s one of the reasons I left LA. Sick of driving and having to deal with traffic all the time. It was cool for a min during the pandemic, but now everyone is on the road again and gas prices are insanity. Nowhere in NA can beat the weather in LA. I’ve been all around the country and LA hands down has the best weather all year round, but honestly, for me, it got boring. I was way happier visiting the east coast in the Fall where there’s beautiful autumn leaves, or Seattle or even SF where there’s rain and isn’t dry weather all the time. LA has everything anyone could ever need and more, but because it’s sub-cities spread out, it doesn’t have that “city” vibe like NYC or SF does. I agree with people saying SF is definitely a great is between of NYC and LA. you get the mild moderate weather of LA (slightly colder and rainier) but with the real city vibe of NYC and there’s actual public transit unlike LA’s awful one. There are so many pros and cons to both major cities but I def think weather and transit are the two biggest differences. LA is just too massive imo. Although I do miss the weather, I def don’t miss how far away everything and everyone was to me. I barely ever saw my friends. In NY people are willing to hop on the subway and just meet up for lunch. You don’t get that same sentiment in LA and it sucks.

I feel I've heard this a lot from content creators who live here (focus on appearance, numbers, transactional nature of the city), but I think a lot of it has to do with the entertainment/creative industry. I've lived in West LA for ~7 years now (grew up in SGV) and no one in my circle has ever commented on getting lip fillers/plastic surgery/etc lol. I really do feel like it's who you surround yourself by that makes all the difference! Fingers crossed for deeper friendships and more hikes/beach days in 2022 :)
Tbh, without knowing you, I feel like you’re a true New Yorker through & through! I could see you moving back to NYC in the near future, but with a small property in Miami or Tampa where you can escape to the heat whenever you want, but also rent/airbnb it out to help with the finances!
When you said you were looking for a cross between New York and LA, have you considered San Francisco? I moved here from New York and I feel like it's even easier to get around the city because it's smaller and there's such great access to nature.
I can second this. I currently live in SF and I don’t own a car but if I’m looking to do outdoor trips, it’s super easy to rent a car/find a group to go out of the city.
A few friends have moved there recently and I have definitely considered except price is $$$! Yesssss I loved your segment about transportation. It’s so sad that there’s such a negative connotation to metros in LA (I live here), and everywhere else where public transportation is successful it’s just what people use, regardless of economic class. It's so true! I wonder if it's also just the efficiency of public transportation here.. wish it would catch on because traffic is always awful in a car
Well Los Angeles is setup diferent than NYC. If everything was the same you would be stuck with no options. I prefer the lower density of southern California. It is less crowded. Of course it has its drawbacks but to me living in a densely populated city like NYC where everywhere you turn there's people would be horrible
I just moved back to LA after living in Manhattan for 2.5 years and I feel the total opposite about the safety aspect. I experienced multiple incidents in the subway: a homeless person threw food at me on the subway, a woman on meth screamed in my face in the subway station, a man took out a knife on the train while getting into an escalated altercation on the subway, and lastly I almost died on the subway. I developed PTSD from living in NYC which I still struggle with until this day. I was born and raised in LA and have never felt unsafe living here, and since being back I still feel very safe. Regarding food-I was so disappointed with the food in NYC in terms of pricing and portions (it’s much more expensive for much less food compared to LA). The produce is definitely so much fresher in LA than NYC and overall I found the flavors and taste lacking overall in NYC. I’ve wasted so much money on overpriced but extremely mediocre food. I also find NY people extremely rude, unwilling to help, and unkind (distinct from simply being direct and blunt). As an Asian American woman, I’ve also experienced so much racism and micro aggressions in NYC whereas in LA I’ve NEVER experienced that because I’ve just grown up surrounded by so many Asian in SoCal, and the people are genuinely nicer and kinder in LA.
@@faithrodriguez4185 I guess I should add I haven’t spent much time in the last year in LA and I do feel like as an Asian woman a lot of my friends fear taking the train/walking solo. Where do y’all be living in LA that you guys feel unsafe? I literally use to live right next to skid row and walked at midnight and was fine. Just don’t look or come across as a easy target idk 😂
It’s not really about coming across as a target-we’ve had robberies within walking distance homes, people jumping our gate to steal mail constantly, breaking the key code gate etc. I’ve never experienced that in New York so it definitely feels unsafe in comparison, but the biggest difference like I mentioned is having a doorman and being in a building of 200 people (New York) versus just you and a house 😯 it’s an adjustment for me! Maybe not for you, but it’s all relative 🙂

I'm moving from NYC to LA for work, if I lived in the same neighborhood as work, can I make it without a car ?
Chicago
@@Veggiekins target in the sense of walking around and pretty much what I was referring to and not you getting burglarized. That you can’t place on being an easy target but more so where you decide to live. I live in ktown now and have been for 5years and literally that has never happened not even a stolen package. I still walk around here at 4am to my fav 24/7 Korean restaurant and it’s literally normal. Well stay safe out here
@@sallyoky9770 I’m not far from ktown but I’m glad it hasn’t happened to you and hope it doesn’t, not fun at all! Be well 🙂
Girl, I assure you, there are communities in LA where people would find it extremely inappropriate to suggest you have or had any cosmetic work done! Sheesh.
Oh I totally believe it! I've just been surprised how common it is, like even uber drivers ive spoken with AHAH.
There are definitely some fine dine vegan restaurants in LA. I’m not sure where you haven’t been.
Would love your list then! The "nicest" spots here that I've seen on all lists etc. are Gracias Madre, Crossroads Kitchen, Shojin and Nic's. They were definitely delicious and nice but missing the fine dining feel of 11 Madison Park and ABCV in NYC.
Are your comments on people more related to your industry? What about tech for example
Come backkk 💕💕 hahah
Hahahaha love u
girrrrrrl you're a west coaster, new yorker haha.
BTW I think if you drove, you could explore so much more. Had no idea you didn't get your DL yet. It's rule #1 here lol.
Eeeek that's weird that someone recommend botox or whatever. Yeah I don't live in L.A. tho. OC is different.
I believe she’s in the process! She’s having a bit of a go trying to pass the test.
@@ohio_nights I got my DL super late and finally got a car when I'm almost 30. 😬
When you said there’s always a witness in NYC i laughed because one thing about yankees they be minding their business 😭😭
LMAOOO that's true but it makes me feel safer seeing other bodies around for some reason ahaha, being alone for blocks is sooo creepy and unusual to me
