Thanks, you've taken a lot of the mystery of this tune up and gasket replacement. Good commentary as you went, good job.

The hardest bolts to GET OUT are the brackets...the hardest bolts to GET IN are the ERG bolts.
If anyone is having issues getting the holes in the back of the manifold to align so the bolts can go IN, then DO NOT bolt down the manifold first on the top front side, YOU WILL need space to WIGGLE the manifold around to align the holes in the back for those back bolts.
ALSO, if you still can't get the holes aligned but you're SOOOO CLOSE, then try hitting the manifold while hand-screwing in the bolts.
If you can just get the tip of a thread into a hole, you'll be fine!
Do the ERG FIRST! It's the hardest, and you need all the space and wiggle from everything you can get.

So last night I started on replacing the 3 spark plugs and valve cover gasket in the back under the intake manifold.
I finished the job and started putting everything back together and got stuck trying to get the 2 bolts on the EGR pipe in the back. Can't even get one. Kept dropping down into the exhaust manifold which was a pain to get out every time. Hands all cut up lol.
Another thing that is making it more difficult is the metal gasket that goes there. You think it will be fine if I just leave it out? I'm about to have my car towed to my friend's Dad's shop and pay him to put everything back together!

Disclaimer: I am not a professional and you do this at your own risk! So what worked for me was a little tricky and i hope i can help. I used the small swivel socket adapter with the small socket extention, the longer part on the rachett and the swivel piece on the end. Its a little tight but i did it from the left side. I would Not advise to leave that piece out because you will have an exausht leak which is bad news bears. Just be patient take a break and pause the video if you have to. I know you can do this.. I did.. You got this!! Let me know if i can be of any help.

@@flightteambravo2921 Hey I appreciate the help. I have a little mirror back there which is helping a lot and yes I'm taking a break and going to get back at it in a few. Im thinking if I use some type of grease to hold the gasket on there it would make it a lot easier for me.
Do you remember if the bolts for that are 12mm it's just not sitting right and I'm curious to know if I mixed bolts!

@@flightteambravo2921 I actually got the top bolt in! This has literally taken me all day to finally get a bolt in. I'm taking a break and then going to work on getting the bottom one in. My arms and hands are tore up. Next time this needs to be done I'm taking it to a shop.

Great video! I’m dreading doing this to my 2004 spyder. I was wondering why you didn’t choose to swap the distributor cap and rotor? I think I would want do that while in there. Or did you do recently?

2003 GTS. Took everything off per the video. Started to remove the manifold and noticed it was hung-up on the intake side. There was a hose I hadn't removed. Removed this hose and to my surprise, antifreeze started coming out the hose. Seems there is a connection from the heater core hose to the intake. So do I have to drain the coolant system or take off the intake?
    Thanks

Im Not a Mechanic and dont advise doing this as its for entertainment viewing Only.. But i did drain my coolant, Did the Oil, Water, the works.. Its better to put in the extra time and money and not have to worry about it for a while. I hope that helps and thanks for your Support!!

@@flightteambravo2921 Thanks for getting back to me so soon. Yeah, I figured at this point I would need to drain the coolant. I actually did this job 7 or 8 years ago to change the plugs. I don't remember draining the coolant, but I guess I did. This time I have a misfire on cyl#3 and was just trying to do a "fast job". This thing is just a real pain to do. Thanks again.

04 gt sypder...in the process of doing this now.. is it really necessary to put the bolts back in for both the brackets? does it really matter or make a difference? thanks

Disclaimer : I'm Not a Certified Mechanic. But yes it is very important to put those back lol. I used a swivel socket and slowly but surely put em back in. If you don't put those back, there will be Bigger issues caused by the Motor Vibrations.

Well i have a saying, If you think you can, You can, If you think you can't you're absolutely right! I beleive in you and I think you can, the question you have to ask yourself is Why don't I? And then you ask yourself, is that a good enough reason for me to hold myself back from Greatness? Then you can comment again and fill me in ..

I can attempt the first 3 front spark plugs but honestly for how much work the back 3 are I think its beyond my skill level. I want to be able to do this though. If I even got close to being able to do this it would take alot longer then a day this be like a few week project. How much labor cost you think this cost at a mechanic?... also did you have to disconnect egr valve too? What kind of spray did you use to clean out exhaust manifold?

Disclaimer! I am Not mechanic and do not advise to try this at home and do this at your own risk. 1 depends on the mechanic but aprox 60-120 hr. 2 i did not skip any steps from the video so no i did not remove it just the tube in the back. 3 carb cleaner and made sure the was none left or any contamination inside as this could end up Bad.

The thing that helped me the most was being neat and placing all the pieces on a flat surface as best as I could to mirror their location on the car. That way i was able to look at the pieces on the table and look at the engine and it was just a matching game after that. Hope that helps a Little..
